-- Dogs shot in Eastern Kentucky by State Trooper (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=201984)

Thanks a lot

Hey folks, thanks a lot for all your support. First off, we do not want to be the ones naming the trooper publicly at this time. We want to make sure nothing is done that could affect my buddy's case in the wrong way. We hope the State Police will have a press release soon, we'll let them name their own people. I have not contacted Doug Vaughn yet, but I probably will be. The head people over the Fish and Wildlife Department in Frankfort have been contacted though. Thanks again for your support, and go over to the Treeing Walker Classifieds for even more info. God Bless, each of you.

P. S. Folks correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that chickens roosted at night. Oh well, maybe their roosting in den trees on the hill these days, seems like everything else in the world is completely backwards, like a state trooper shooting a coonhound, in the mountains of Eastern Ky. of all places, where most people own some type of dog or hunt some type of hound.

I sure wouldn't do anything to hurt your case but I've got a partner in Letcher county. When I called him to try to find out the details he didn't know anything about it. Now IF he had took our dogs to the same area hunting and had the same thing happen, I would have hard feelings from not being warned from someone that did know the details. Kinda like a child molester moving in next door to you and nobody telling you so you could keep your kids out of their yard. Right?
Still hope he gets what he desirves.

So sorry to hear this. If you need any specific kinds of support (besides prayers!) for your friend--letters to a newspaper, etc.--just ask.

Starting a petition against this trooper may be a good step to garnish yourself some press and help shame the department into getting rid of someone who is obviously mentally unstable. And if he's let go for that, it's unlikely other departments will want him either.

Did your friend get the dog's bodies back? Were the bullets removed and kept? A vet should have removed them and kept them on file in the case it could be proven that it was his police firearm that was used.

You could contact some pro hunter type media such as Ted Nugent. He runs in some heavy circles that may just be able to help get some justice and perhaps legal counsel. Who knows... all he could do is say no if he won't. I'm quite sure he would be infuriated by your friend's story. And if Ted Nugent takes it up, so will your local newspapers...

In the meantime, my sincere sympathy to your friend, his family and for those poor innocent dogs. Prayers up!

Tell everyone one you know in Eastern KY, to make sure they do not hunt their dogs any where near Grassy Fork of Yontz Fork in Letcher Co., KY.

He said he wished it was 20 yrs ago when he was in charge..said he'd of made an EXAMPLE of the trooper!! I wish you the best of luck.

That is a really good idea, both of them, retrieve the slugs to see if the service revolver was used and what could it hurt to contact Ted Nugent? Maybe Yes, maybe No, but he just might take up the cause and speak publicly about hunter rights and their Hounds.

Maybe Ted would like to go coon hunting some time and see what it is all about? Has anyone ever asked him? He would most likely enjoy making coon barbaque, lol. Ya never know.

Theft of tracking collars

GET THIS SOB. Every day, all over, we are being overrun buy idiots who move out to the country, buy 1 acre, and suddenly own everything they can see.

In addition to the illegal killing of the dogs- what about filing theft charges????? He removed your property (tracking and shock collars) and took them into his possesion without your knowledge or permission. Don't know what the statute requires to make it a felony, but with the price of a good tracking and shock collar, you might be able to get this clown nailed for felony theft, which would certainly diminish his future in law enforcement.

About the Humane Society-

DON'T HAVE ANY DEALINGS WITH THEM!!!!!!! Don't let a really crappy situation allow us to overlook what they are all about. They spend millions of dollars every year to try and infringe on our rights to own, raise, train, and hunt dogs. Remember- if you lay down with dogs you're gonna get fleas. Talking to them in a situation like this just helps legitamize their hidden agenda of animal rights and outlawing hunting.

They are not necessary to further your cause anyway. Talk to the county attorney and tell him you want charges pressed to the full extent allowed by law. Hire an attorney to file suit for monetary damages, punitive damages, and mental anguish and any other kind of mud he can think of to throw at the loser who did this. Hang in there. Nothing will bring back your dogs, but at least maybe this will help get the message out that it is not ok to shoot a dog just because it is barking.

Good luck and please keep posting updates.

the state of Kentucky

Should have a State Trooper Livestock Commisioner. Contact him and get the ball rolling. I know a dog is not livestock but it is a felony to steal a dog. This is not theft but not much different in my eyes.

In Georgia it is now a felony to remove a tracking collar from a dog thanks to the Georgia Hunting and Fishing Federation and the Georgia Coonhunting Federation
