-- Buying dogs online (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=194271)

We have 6 coonhounds total now, 2 redticks and 4 blueticks. We bought 3 blues on the message boards. The others we bought, we no longer feed. The rest were born here.

We bought our blue male as a puppy from Michael Bowling in Georgia, and we couldn't be happier at how he has turned out. He is honestly the best dog in our yard right now (but our female pup is catching up very quickly). Michael was very honest with us and an all-around nice guy. I would recommend him, his dad, or his dogs to anyone that asked.

We bought our young female blue from Brian Smith in Southern Mississippi when she was 9 months old. Everything he told us about her was the truth. She was actually better than he had mentioned. We couldn't be happier with her either. She is 1 year old now and catching up with our 5 year old male in a hurry.

We did have a real bad deal once. I'm going to stick to that golden rule "if you can't say anything nice..." so I won't mention any names. Let me just say that we got this dog as a puppy, with a lot of nonsense about contracts, and he stayed really sick the first 4 months we had him. When I called just to ask if any others were sick or if they had any idea what could be wrong... they said they didn't know who we were or that we had purchased a puppy from them. Anyway... he turned out to be an okay hunter, but acted goofy most of the time. I'm not certain that his parents weren't brother and sister. We ended up giving him away to a young hunter in the neighborhood.

Basically if we get a dog on here that isn't any good, we normally give them away or keep them as pets. Depends on the situation. I guess 1 bad deal out of about 10 in 6 years time isn't so bad.

I have bought 6 pups and 2 older pups in the last 4 years and have been happy with all of them. They came from all over, Georgia, Louisianna, Kentucky, Alabama, Iowa and Missouri. They were all like the breeder said they were, chubby, good looking and honory.

I've never bought a dog from the classifieds directly. What I mean is that people have seen my posts or that I hunt Plotts and have contacted me by phone or e-mail. We never would have met some of the great hunters that we have had some awesome dealings with if it hadn't been for the message board.

I've bought 3 dogs off of here and I'm completely satisfied. I highly recomend SLIPKNOT and R Jerry Leviner. They are the only ones I've dealt with but they are men of their word.

Glad...

To see that the good outweighs the bad on here. That sends a good statment about the coonhunting world. I just recently bought a dog off of here and was very satisfied. The guy I bought him from was Chosen2. The dog was just as advertised and was a good investment so far. Good price and dealings with him also. I have been offered twice what I paid for the dog on multiple occasions by different people and have only had him for a short period of time. Thanks Jeff

If someone isnt willing to show the dog then be afraid! Anyone can type up a total BS ad. I would also say that 10% or maybe even less are 100% totally honest about a dog. Most people will leave out a few faults or annoying habits a dog has.

I have purchased two older dogs from this site. One from Trent B and one from Chris Sterrett. Both as described, maybe a little better. The one from Trent B was older and is what she is, no mickey mouse with her. The one from Chris is a yet to be finished younger gyp that has me anxiously awaiting a permanent break in the weather based on what I have seen from her so far. I wouldn't normally recommend someone based on a single deal but I wouldn't hesitate to enter into another deal with either of those two men. Is there a reason why there isn't a "good/bad" feedback section on here? I know that it is very subjective but in my experience, trusting the person you are buying the dog from is as important as the dog itself. Thats why I don't get all caught up with the tired and worn out catch phrases.

Bought the runt of the litter out of Hank and Gracie, from Dale and Jamie at Hoo Hoo Hollow after seeing the pup on their web site, very happy with her and she's growing like a weed.

i've bought off here....

good experiences. bad experiences. i'd say as of now....might if i feel comfortable with seller. lessons learned.

#1) photos can be deceiving

2#) make sure and get current vaccination record. rabies included! if over 6 months.

3#) ask for recent heartworm test

4#) make sure registration papers are in order

4#) GET IT IN WRITING! if you make any verbal dealings

5#) get a handwritten, and signed receipt of every single dog you buy! i had a terrible experience when seller passed away and i owed a pup still. but had no record i had already paid part of price to seller. widow was paid pup price. but really protect yourself....

and that last one, i am sure most won't and don't bother with...checks are great for receipt but cash has no paper trail...

6#) if you are planning on doing any breeding with new hound? get a current brucellosis test. they always expect it on the females...but how about that studdog you are going to use?food for thought....
