I fed Black Gold for about 2 years. I had goood luck with it up until the end. I had to drive 1 1/2 hours to get it and I started to get inconsistency in the product. I am still looking for a good quality product a year later. I am going to try Joy next.

Our dealer sold his last bag two days ago and said he was going to sell something else because it went up yet another .75 cents, and he said he was loosing money on it. I never fed it much anyway, I feed purina and love it and they have the weight circle programn which saves me alot of money in the long run and it is real quality feed to boot. Purina is on the right path make quality feed and keep it resonable for the customer. Two thumbs up for the guys at purina!

Purina is no better in price than Black Gold.
I fed Purina for a long time and was paying 5 to 8 dollars more per bag.
My dogs look good on black gold and it is still cheaper than feeding Purina.
Also, when they start having all these pet food recalls again because of the foreign products they are putting in their food I wont have to worry because Black Gold uses home grown ingredients. One reason that Black Gold prices are going up is, American labor is more expensive than the foreigners.

If purina is not cheaper overall than feeding black gold you are getting ripped off. All the rebate checks you get in there program for seven dollars off of a bag. Sorry but it is much cheaper and still a high quality food.

I can buy Purina much cheaper than Black Gold.The Black Gold I feed is $22 a bag and the Purina is much less.Also if anyone is close to Sams Club their Hi-Performance feed is the same as Dog Chow for about $14/bag.My dogs treed just as many coon when we didnt have the higher quality food as they do now.Remember the days of feeding Dads and Sunshine Cracklin dog food thats what we had to feed years ago around here.

One problem with blackgold. They DO NOT make their own feed. Hire it out to be made. They dont have a manufacturing warehouse... I just found that out. They must be wanting one with the constant increases!!!!

Purina cost me 33 a bag and I get the same results out of Black Gold which I pay 25 a bag for.
Purina ---- 37.5 LBS ---- $33
Black Gold ---- 40 LBS ---- $25

Same Results

Now, which is the better deal for me?

What kind of Purina are you feeding for a 37.5 lb. bag at $33.00. I fed Black Gold for about 2 years and it is good food ,but I got sick of the price going up EVERYTIME I went to get it ,plus driving an hour one way. I feed Purina Dog Chow and my dogs look and act the same. Dog Chow is $18.00 a bag at WalMart. With the weight circles it is HARD TO BEAT!

im getting black gold down here for 17$ a bag....i was gonna feed my pups some Purina puppy chow for large breed puppies and that stuff was 37$ at tractor supply

I am only giving 18 dollars a bag for my Black Gold. I feed the black bag. Around here it hasn't went up as much as the others. Joy has went up about 3 dollars a bag and Pride has went up 4 or 5 dollars on their pro series and 3 or 4 on every other bag. I will say though that some of the price increases are the feed stores sticking it to us. I found this out the hard way while I was feeding Pride last spring and summer. It was going up a dollar everytime I went to get it. I found another feed store that was selling it and they said it hadn't went up but twice all year. These stores are in the same town and get feed off the same truck and one was charging 3 and 4 dollars a bag more than the other. If my feed was going up I would check out the other stores in your area if they are any.

GA dawg is right i just found out that doanes products is makeing it for them.i know when black gold 1st started they were makeing there own feed but i guess when you start gettin to big you farm it out.doanes makes dog food for alot of differant stores like wal mart hy vee.orschliens,blains so maybe there is the problem .doanes gets a order and they just make anything.

Redbones4me,My dogs eat about the same of both feeds and their stool does not change from 1 to another so probably not much difference.How did we ever tree coons with that old feed?My purina is $6 a bag less than Black Gold here and I dont see how it would be much higher other places.

Black Gold just went up to 19.99 a bag here.It's still alot cheaper than than the only feed Purina makes thats comparable in quality to Black Gold which is Pro Plan.I wouldn't feed dog chow or hi pro if it was free.JMO

Well I am at a turning point and don't know which way to go I think my pocket book will lead me though or maybee I need to let some hounds go look at this $23.27 a bag + $2.98 a gal for gas = $46.54 +$8.94= $27.74 @ bag wow sell some dogs I guess

$ 20.75 a bag here for black gold (black bag) im in southwest indiana. so if someone in idaho is getting it for $ 18 a bag....whats going on? there is a lot more miles to idaho from missouri than missouri to indiana. one more raise and im going to look elsewhere.

Black Gold is better

We now feed black gold. we feed purina to some dogs also.we pay $19.00 . My purina is $29.00. If you don't believe the difference look at our pictures of Gracie on our website. Black Gold is just plain good feed. We love it. Never had no problems from either.

like i said ive been feeding it since they started makin it and ive always liked the way the dogs looked and not much stool cleanup.its just lately the quality of it dont seem right and why when were only 300 miles from wheres its made were paying almost 24 bucks and idaho is only payin 18 somethin isnt right here

You need to contact Black Gold Directly and let them know. We were told by our local rep to let them know because Two sizes of bags contained to different size feed. May be same situation. You are close enough to the Home Office to contact them directly. They would want to know and may not see it on this board.

I talked to a Black Gold rep at our hunting show last week and he cited increasing cost of chicken fat (biodiesel research), increasing cost of corn (ethanol research), and fuel costs as the main reasons dog food is going up, but who knows. He said to expect more increases from all dog food manufacturers in the coming months, not just Black Gold.

Cost here is 18.35 from Distributer to Dealer. The distributer said there was too much discounting to buddies of dealers. Price is suppose to be 21.75 for the end customer. I guess Black/Gold is trying to get price equalization between sources. At least cap the lower end (no wholesaling)

He did indicate price is going up with the next shipment.

$21.75 for 50# is still better than $34 for 34# Pro Plan Performance.

I run Black for all but 1 dog that seems to need the high energy blue bag right now. He needs to gain some weight.
