Trapper, do you have hounds? I never hear you talk about coon hunting, just trapping and deer hunting.
You can replace the springs on your traps for a couple bucks each if there coilsprings. If there several years old they probably need them.
Ive caught 25lb coon in 1 1/2's and found them curled up asleep the next morning.
Caught by mistake in big traps, when the leg or wrist is broken it doesnt take much for them to twist out.
BTW, thats the reason for the myth that animals will chew there legs off in a trap. In the days of the mountian men traps came in 1 size and it was for beaver. When set on land or when animals tangled before they drowned, those huge traps broke bones and the leg was left behind when the animal twisted out.
That and the part of the foot that is under the jaws goes numb after a bit. When chewing on the trap the foot can be chewed by mistake if theres enough room between the jaws and base plate. They cant feel it because everything below the trap jaws is numb.

Most of these areas are used by a Very Slick Boar Coon.. We have treed him twice but only using an Ambush method ( My brother has two hounds on led and when my hounds start to run him on the Island then my brother releases his two at a point where the coon crosses off the Island.. Took us awhile to figure him out for Sure.. His Den is on the Mainland and he feeds on the Island. And Slick Slick Slick when he's running..

SAVE THE COON, HUNT WITH A HOUND!
I have 5 walkers nothing paperd i just coon hunt not much into the comp hunt deal I may see about getting some of the traps fixed realy most of my coons are coming out of the 220s but i only have about 15 of them I was looking to buy a bunch of them but i got to looking at the prices and i think they are outta my league my plan is to buy 4 dozens 2s for trail sets and just maybe if i have enough money 3-4 dozen 110s for the rats But i dont know i like to put the foot holds on the floating board with the bait seem to get more rats this way.
where would you buy parts for traps
this is the only pic i have of 1 of my hounds im investing in a cam sometime but with the price of gas and everything kinda hard to do.
Trapper4life, what state are you in?
For coon a 1 1/2 coil is a very effective trap. A #2 DLS is also very good. Coon will chew off below the jaws then pull out with bigger traps. I used to catch quite a few coon in #1 DLS and #1 coils. The 1 1/2 longs were not strong enough.
Illinois
Theres several supply dealers where you can get parts.
Personaly I use Funks in Iowa, but theres bunches of places to get them.
The best thing I can tell you to do is to order Trapper and Predator Caller.
Heres a link to there website. They have a forum as well.
www.trapperpredatorcaller.com
About anything you will ever want or need for trapping is in that magazine. Wish I had gotten it as a kid, would have saved alot of lessons from the school of hard knocks.
