The question was why won't UKC allow us to use them and that question has been answered. In fact, Tombstone answered
the question himself in the last sentence of his post.
And it isn't UKC that doesn't allow them, it is the breed associations. They make the rules.
If you really want them allowed, ask your breed assiciation to present the rule change at the next session.

They are a training device and if your dog isn't trained to leave junk alone, behave himself around other dogs, and come when called, he ain't ready for a hunt.

They probably do get used more than folks think... Specially during timeout.....

Leave the rules the way they are... If you can use the shocker during timeouts it would allow a person to get their dog back within the hour most of the time.

John D has every dog you've hunted with in the hunts been a BROKE sure enough COONDAWG? I highly doubt it. I'd be willing to bet that over 50 %(i put a higher% but figered I better lower it) of the nt ch's and gr nt ch's will run trash.

Jeff, just like you trained your dog with a beeper on your shock collar. You can do the exact same thimg with a Shock collar and a coaches whistle. Also since it is legal for a dog to wear the collar and it is legal for you to carry the transmitter with you, there is nothing to stop you from using the collar when you go in to get your dog during a timeout, so they should just make it legal to use them during a time out.

It is no longer legal to carry a transmitter....

i just hope that in a hour my hound is gonna get treed somewere in most cases if he cant he shouldnt be in the hunts yet anyways but i can see if in the case my dog was heading in the direction of major highway and i had the shocker on him id say scratch me and get my dog regardless but other then that i dont think they should be used

I dis-agree. I think the rule is fine the way it is, but every dog I turn loose whether it be pleasure or competition hunting wears a shock collar. 99.99% of the time I don't have to use it, but I like having the option just in case.

Another thing go a night without it after using like you and I do and I just about promise that is the night they go plum crazy or that always seems to be the case for me.

Oh, heck no. I don't think I've ever owned a 100% trash free hound or at least one I would feel confident enough to say that. The only ones like that are born that way, and live up North somewhere. Or, so we've been told.

Having said that, its been at least several months, or maybe longer since I've had a junk race. There's a big difference between a dog that needs to live life with a shock collar on, and one that had a fast game race 2 years ago and before that it was a year.

My point is that if a dog has so many problems that might crop up that he can't go to the woods without a shock collar on, then he's not ready. I use the term "not ready" VERY loosely....

So in saying Shocking collar should be outlawed from the hunts, what about those lighted tracking collars and the new Garmen tracking system that shows you where your dog is???
