Poison Ivy:
Never get it, so I just get to sit back and laugh at the ones that do.
When I was a kid I got the job of cutting it out of fence rows and such because everyone else couldnt be anywhere near it.

I use a lotion called Zanfel, get it at the pharmacy over the counter with no prescription. Kinda expensive but my 5 yr old got it all over and this stuff cleared it up over night.

I am very allergic to it and used to get it all the time, and it would last for months leaving huge scars. The prednisone does clear it up, but it isn't good for you and doctors are reluctant to give it. I once had poison ivy so bad they hospitalized me--had it in my armpits, on my neck, etc.and was way swollen up--but that was in the days before health insurers got so anti-hospital.
The allergen in poison ivy is an oil. When the blisters break, the oil spreads around your body if you are very sensitive to it. Anything that breaks down the oil will help it from spreading--dish detergent works best for me. If its on your face, try baby shampoo so you don't hurt your eyes. To relieve the itch and soak up the oils, wash with powdered oatmeal, but don't take oatmeal baths--that can spread it. Try to keep the itchy areas cool--damp cloth can help. A central nervous system tranquilizer like valium will help if your doctor will prescribe it.
In the future, you can pretty well prevent getting poison ivy by protecting the exposed areas of your skin with anything oily, then showering as soon as you get back from hunting. Cold cream or vaseline on exposed skin will work. Drop your hunting clothes right in the washing machine. I have hardly had any poison ivy since I started doing this.
And yes, you can get poison ivy from your hound if you are sensitive. One of the worst cases I ever got came second hand from letting the hound sleep in the bed. If, like me, you are fool enough to do that, wear pajamas! Otherwise, you can get poison ivy on very sensitive areas of your body!

Yeah, I competition hunt !! All Fall and Winter long.. My Blues compete with the local coon.. My Blues win a ton !!! We use and recommend MOONSHINER LIGHTS, Peggs , Ok.
I have used the Ivy Dry, it seems to work but smells terrible. I caught it bad last year and did some research on the internet and the best thing i found was zinc cream. Didn't know i could also take it. It seemed to dry it up faster than anything else that i have used.
By the way just thinking about poison Ivy is making me itch. Seem to be a very prevalent year for it.

Guess I've been reading this topic too much, I'm starting to get some on my hand. Second time already this year. Doesn't look bad though.
