-- youngest ukc grand nite ch. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=12775)

Posted by rocky tanner on 02-13-2006 09:53 PM:

When I first started hunting comp. in the mid 80's it was easier to make a dog nite ch., but harder to make grand nite. In the mid 80's you could make a dog Nite Ch. without winning but 1 cast. It 's been 20 years ago, but I'm pretty sure they gave championship points to dogs that got 2nd in cast if they placed in top 10 at the hunt. All nite ch cast had non-hunting judges back then though. Anyhow my hats off to a dog that makes Grand Nite at that early of an age.

Rocky

You've got a point! You could place a dog back then without a cast win. But, 1st's were a lot harder to come by in 40-60 dog hunts than they are in todays 10-15 dog hunts (or less).

It was much harder then. Look at the # of Nt. Ch.'s and Gr. Nt. Ch.'s then and now. Then, look at the number of hunters. Big Difference!

I know both ruger and chopping axe made grnitech grch at 18 months. After that Ruger was put into water races and field trials and became the youngest hound of to be a GRWCH GRFCH GRNITECH GRCH. He was 2 years 5 months and 3 days old. Here is a pic of ruger

I may be wrong; but I think Ruger and AXE are the youngest Dual Grand Blueticks.

Truth

And in Bellar's case "If only the TRUTH was known"
chances are I would be more beleiving in this 10 month old GR.NT
but in Bellar's case of being known as a Crook and switching papers and dogs back then, and I don't care who reads this and calls me a liar "No sir" I don't care I've got people that are related to me that hunted with and against and was friends/handlers/fellow hunters, that knew Russ on a very very good basis!!!!!!!!!!!

Only BLK&TANS,

I'm thinking that I saw this dog mentioned in an ad some time back and the "gritty" dogs were owned by a guy who's last name was Whitney and the other guy's last name was Artamenko (spelling?). I think one or both guys were in Iowa. I think Ed Abel got his "Gritty Rooster" dog that he ran at stud from one of them.
I think the Artamenko fella big game hunted quite a bit.

From the name, I'd guess there is some Ridge Runner's Mack breeding in there somehow.

Just guessing.

Is Russ Bellar still hunting? I heard he was raising deer or something like that?

Thank you for the info, at least I now have some idea as to where the dog generated from.

Russ is in the Pokey

from what I last heard and read. Someone posted a video of part of the trial on him.
Got into big trouble on the deer farm deal. Got set up by the Feds. sounds like an illlegal set up to me. Just my opinion
whether he deserved it or not.

seems like he would have been barred from the hunts at some point, with all that cheating going on.
not calling you a liar,by all means you should call all the kennel clubs imediately with your TRUTH,so we can get him and his handlers and his dogs out of the hunts.

Would he actually tree a coon ? By himself! and why is it this dog never went on to win anything or breed a female ??????????????????????????

Only BLK&TANS

I checked one of my old yearbooks last night. Bob Artamenko is in CA and Bert Whitney of Waterloo Iowa. Bullhead was sired by Ridge Runner's Mack out of Artamenko's Gritty Kelly.

There you go.

Everyone has a addvertising sceam it seems. They said Looking Up Jeb was the young Dual Grand Ch in world at one time. I wish I owned one of these nice hounds that granded before they were 2 years old.
As for Russ Bellar watch what you say about him. He has never had a problem helping out the coon hunting world the young hunter and the sick. (St. Judes) I fell he must have a heart of gold. If you ever read his interview in the American Cooner you would understand. I had a freind that was working in Ind. and got ahold of Russ and Russ let him keep his female at his kennel and they hunted nightly and Russ never charged him a dime and they became good freinds. That says alot about a person to do that for a stranger. I was saddened to see people bash a man that made himself what he is by hard back straining work never asked for a dime from anyone. This is from a person that has never met Rush a day in his life.

this was brought up on another thread, and it got my curiosity,so i did a little brainpicking about a dog that i had believed to be the youngest gr nt ever.

Grand Nite Champion Bellars Indiana Shep. ukc#H505-669
D.O.B 10-20-1974
GN degree achieved-9-12-1975

that made him grand nite at 10 mnths 23 days.
those of you that are old enough to have hunted in the hunts back in those days here in the midwest will remember ol shep .

i am told that ukc records dont go back that far,so what i am going on is the degree from ukc that the owner still has on record.
he still remembers a lot of the hounds and handlers he drew and how many dogs were in attendance on his way to finish shep out.

if anyone knows of a younger one, please post and let us know.

What can you tell me about the ability of Bellars Shep? What traits did he reproduce? In the 70s our annual UKC hunt at Darlington, WI was 3 hours and had over 120 dogs. For the next year anyone could tell you who won the Pecatonica River hunt and won was Miss America. Times have sure changed. Any information on Bellars Shep would be appreciated.

if i remember correctly nocturnal kane was advertised as the youngest walker grand night after he won the high scoring dog at 9 months old at the battle of the breeds.

Posted by edwardfasteddy on 10-05-2017 01:06 AM:

Back when Pac-man won the Grand American he was only 1 year old and everyone said he had to be at least 3 years old because of the way he out classed everything he drew. Then old Pac ended up being 17 years old when he died. That story would have made him 20 years old, You can't believe everything you here from these guys.

Posted by edwardfasteddy on 10-05-2017 01:07 AM:

I breed to Old Pac-man over 10 times, because he was a coon dog!
