Was feeding PKC, switched to Hi-Standard.Hi-Standard 23-16 and 26-18 has no whole corn or wheat, which means less clean up.

I was feeding the Maximum green bag from Wal-mart, but $20/40# ate the wallet too much. Went back to Ol'roy hi-pro ($12.97/50#). I've seen no problems w/ it, but I dont hunt like everyone else does. I did "win" a 50# bag of Diamond and Black Gold. I mixed the Diamond & Ol'roy first (so as not to upset digestive system) with no problem. Last night I had to break out the Black Gold (black bag). Mixed it as usual w/ Ol'roy and the dogs barely touched it, even my mixed breed. I found it to be extrememly greasy with not to nice a smell (as compared to Ol"roy & Diamond). So, I'm giving the rest away. I'm not going to force the girls to eat something that they can't stomach. I haven't tried Purina on these, but have used it in the past - good food. Until I have a problem with it, I'll keep them on Ol'roy. If I can get some Diamond mixed in that will work too.

I suppose I could use the Black Gold in some coon traps!

I feed Renderer's Special, the chartreuse bag. It's $17.50 a metric ton. Dogs hate it, but if they don't eat for 2 weeks, they'll eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and be glad to get it. They're skinny, have warts, and a few hairless spots, but I can live with it. They are all a light grey in color now, so it's hard to tell them apart. That's kind of a downside. They are proud sponsors of Lapdogs Intl also. It's supposed to be 100% pig parts. I think it's 8/3 percent. And if you find an ear, it's $2 off your next order!

It is reputed that if you mix it with water, it can also be used as spackling...

Nothing but Black Gold for my treeing walkers! I buy it at Nottawa Gas Company. Just 3 miles from my house.

I've fed several kinds of dog food some pretty pricey stuff(Purina, Black Gold) to cheaper brands (Ol Roy,Sportsman Mix) and the best dog food I've found for the money is Diamond. I feed low protein in summer(21%) and high Protein in the winter(26%) it keeps the dogs in good shape and I noticed a change in the performance of my hounds once they had ate Diamond for about a week. I hunt 3 to 4 nites a week in summer and every nite I can in season (5,6,or 7 nites a week). The diamond keeps dogs looking good and performing. I pay $15.00/50 lb (21%) and about $18.00/50 lb 26%.

purina

purina makes some good food but i wouldn't feed dog chow to my hogs i mainly feed diamond and some of my dogs are fed purina high pro
dog chows main ingredient is corn and dog can't digest corn it goes right through them thus a mess to cleanup
now if you feed the better purina its actually cheaper dog eats less and makes use of what they eat with a whole lot less of a mess

Black Gold #1

I have fed all the popular brands, except for PKC. I don't have a good opinion on Pride,(didn't feed enough of it). I'm a big fan of Black Gold, but it's hard to find in my area. I'm currently feeding Hi-Standard, don't like that very good. Seems to be alot more waste as compared to Black Gold. Just my opinion. Different strokes........ Jerry Hicks - Sturgis, Michigan

Purina

I fed Diamond for about 8 months, then switched to PMI for about 6 months. I thought both were pricy and only available at feed store. Here both feeds run about $28/50#. I then tried some of the Purina Pro Plan. I loved that feed. It too was pricy at about $30/50#. I didnt have as much waste as the diamond, dogs ate less and looked better. Only problem was that I could only find it at PetCo and the nearest store was 55 miles away. Seemed like every time I went to get feed, they were out of either the puppy food or the grown dog food. Since it was such a drive to their store, I decided I needed to find a different food.

I now feed Purina Maximum Performance food. I buy it at wal mart. The Green & Silver sack is $21/40# and the silver & blue sack for the puppies is $14/20#. Dogs are eating about 2 cups per day, they look great, minimal mess & they will hunt all nite with enough energy left over that I have considered trying it in my diet so I can keep up!!! Just kidding! So far, walmart has had food in stock every time I go to get it. Closest store is 12 miles away.

I now have 7 dogs! I need to check into the rebate program you all have mentioned. Please email me info on how you get into that program.

By the way, no Black Gold dealers close to me, so have never tried it.

Members mark Exceed Lamb and Rice

As Larry Atherton mentioned, it is a super premium dog food comparable to Purina Pro Plan. $19.53 for 44 #. I buy it at Sam's club. purina's rebate plan still does't come close to getting the price Of ProPlan down to the cost of this and no problems having to save up weight markers and accumlate 600# to claim the rebate. I get the savings when I buy it. Black Gold, PKC, and Diamond are all a lesser food than this.

Years back I was buying cost cutter Kroger brand, and mixing it with pure hog lard yes it was cheap, but at the time it was all I could afford.......I use purina dog chow , and have never seen it run through my hounds as decribed on another post . I am well pleased with this food, and each day I see no excess waste to clean up.......

Not sure but if your talking about Maximum Nutrition that is sold @ Walmart,it isn't a Purina Brand feed,,and the Pro Club isn't gonna help ya at all,,we drive about 45 miles to get Pro Plan and Hi Pro...and it's worth it everytime,,just talk to the store manager in your area and have them up the stock a bit ,,we done that here at Tractor Supply,,works for us!,,Take care

I feed the Black Gold 23/16.I'm paying 14.59 for 50lbs.I've tried Purina,PKC,diamond and several others and the Black Gold does the best.

We feed Diamond 24/20 we get it for $13.50 tax included

Purina!! I had fed purina to my pup, and she looked great on it, then got talked into trying Pride, it was cheap enough, but had to feed twice as much to even keep weight on, had dry skin, couldn't put any weight on, so I switched back to Purina. I'm feeding Purina One large breed right now, feeding half as much as I was of Pride, the dog has gained weight, her coat is shiney, her eyes are bright and her energy level is out the roof! Plus, I buy it at Giant and I have a bonus card there, and it's cheaper that way, plus I usually get a coupon for it next time I buy it. I don't really feed enough to use the Pro Club, but I'm still saving. Maybe in a year or 2 I'll be able to cash em in!!

Gotta second that one. We feed Purina dog chow during the summer, along with the Fit and Trim in the winter. When the females that have been bred start showing we feed them Puppy Chow. Most of our pups start eating the Puppy Chow soaked in water by the time they are 4 weeks old and are eating it dry at about 7-9 weeks old. All of our hounds have nice slick coats and are very muscular hounds. We have a 10 year old dog right now with more muscle mass on him than I have seen on most 3 and 4 year old dogs. We have tried everything from Sportmix to Balck Gold and always keep coming back to Purina, because it is simply the best. I wouldn't feed anything other than Purina! And the Pro Club rebate checks really help when you are feeding as much as we do, about every month, we get enough weight circles to order about $70.00 worth of rebate checks.
