Just all 'round , meat gettin' hounds.
seems like more trash runs on moonlit nights. I know some people either hunt really ealry or really late when it is full moon depending on when the moon is coming up. A lot of people I used to hunt with would hunt on moonlit nights to try and break there dogs off of trash. I am sure it could be argued in everyway. Good luck.

I dont think the moon has anything to do with tracking condishions, but it for sure has one on how game moves. I have also noticed that on full moon nights, I find more coon by body than eyes.
Smart hunters take that in to account when they decide where to hunt. Myself, when the moon is full, I head for the big woods. Like someone else said, its darker there.
Myself, I put more into the ground condishions than the moon phase. Its as dry here right now as its ever been. Still tree coon, but let us get one of those rare things called a rain shower or something like that, and man those mutts look like a million dollars. Frost, snow, and a bunch of other stuff effects it also.
Go up north and you can tree coon in the snow. We get a dusting of snow down here and the coon wont come down till it melts. In years of regular rain fall, dew isnt a big deal. This year they can look like crap all night, let the dew fall and man o man you got a dog agian.
Bottem line, if you have a coondog you will tree coon no matter what its like outside. You will just tree more and have an easier time when the condishions are better.
Now if I could just find one of those smart hunters who owns a coondog, Id be in high cotton.
Full moon is ussually the coldest nights of the month. It tends to be dry. The moon has an effect on the tides, weather, tracking conditions ect. Obviously sometimes you get over cast full moon nights, but ussually it is clear and cool and dry. (not as much dew)
Anyone that hunts coon in the day time will tell you they run harder. In Northern WI. you can run a coon for hours before you tree them in the daytime. They will kill more on the ground in the daytime also. Last night it was about like daylight to an animal.
All that being said, if you have a good dog you can still get some action.

moon phase
The moon being out can cause coons to run alott harder. My experience has been in the past you can really see what kind of dog you have. The reason I say this: Of course dogs and coon are Nocturnal but with the added light they can see better for further distances. This will tell the truly broke dogs from the fonys. If a dog will sight race off game tree a possum or any thing else that it's not suppose to do it will happen when the moon is full.

Last night here in northern illinois it was so bright you did'nt need a light, decided to go make a drop or 2 and see what happens and work on some things ( LOL) with my 2 yr old B&T female. It took awhile to get struck, just messed around and around in one area, then heard her move alittle farther out and then the race was on!!!!! 1/2 to 3/4 mile in a straight line right along a ridge along some R.R. tracks, heard her load up and start to tree, hustled butt to her and she was on alittle sappling tree about 4 inches round and i when i seen that i said to myself WHY???? (this is where we were gunna work on some things) LOL. It was thick as all he*^ so i shined from back aways, nothing!!! so got up next to the tree to make sure it was'nt slick or slick tailed, gave it a shine, nothing!!!! standing there in disbelief and getting mad and wondering the next move i looked up with no light on and i see a clump of leaves, vines, limbs, etc. so i reached up and gave this little tree a shake, seen something move so turned on my light and i'll be darned if a ringed tail was now in sight out of that clump, lit it up now and walla ole coony could be seen. Boy i was pretty proud then so gave the little girl some TLC, and said "BOB QUIT WHILE YOUR AHEAD ".....
In my experience, moon phase has ZERO effect on coons. It's all a wives tail. Did a study all summer long, with my trail camera that logs moon phase, temp, and time. I took pics everynight, for months..regardless of moon phase. I hunt on full moons and cant see a difference in behavior either. It's all a huge steamy loag of whoo-puckinutter!!

full moon
TREED TWO ON THE OUT SIDE LAST NIGHT,I DIDNT GO TILL 1:00 THIS MORNNING, DANNIEL FELKER CAME DOWN TO MY PLACE WITH HIS DOG ,GN.NT TIMBER,HE IS OUT OF CUTTER ,LOOKED REAL GOOD.
I dont think it makes a hill of beans in the summer time,All the leaves on the trees keep the moonlight blocked out.In the dead of winter you will most definatly tree more den trees.I've never noticed em run harder or longer but tree more dens.I think because its so bright they dont want to venture far from home. With the moon being brite they are afraid something might catch em!!
Well full moon here and we ran 1 track for about 5 minutes and treed with the coon. It was about 8:30. Treed a layup right after. Coon don't move I think real well in the moon but you can still tree.
