Here's a mystery dog.

I bet Voyd can tell us which dog is chewing on the coon just from what little shows.

Double Springs Echo, the other dog is Star which was out of Echo and Polly.

John, did you shoot this coon or did Echo catch it.

Posted by huntingnick on 08-25-2006 05:57 PM:

there isn't much better than looking at bluetick pics, besides looking at blueticks under the coon.

That Echo dog could mortally fly.

I wish I had bred Belle to him once.

I think Echo could catch more coon on the ground in one month than what most hunters will see caught in their life time, he had a knack for it, oh and the old rascal was a wide open track dog with more mouth given than I like.

Posted by Voyd Cannon on 08-25-2006 06:28 PM:

John, I had a little female named Linda that was pretty decent that was from Echo and a female that had some of the same breeding as your bell female, the cross from Bell and Echo should have been a goodun.

Linda could catch a coon if he didn't run to far or fast.

I did get one more--Ranger V.

This dog should have been bred to more.

THIS PICTURE REALLY DOESNT DO JUSTICE TO OLD 5 , HE HAD LOOKS TO BURN AND WAS A REPRODUCER TO SOME OF THE MOST NATURAL PUPS I HAVE EVER SEEN .

I BRED A GR.NT. FEMALE OFF HAWK TO HIM TWICE AND SHE NEVER TOOK .

HE COULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREAT REPRODUCERS IF HE WOULD HAVE GOT THE FEMALES . THAT IS JUST MY OPINION

THANKS FOR POSTING THE PICTURE , BRINGS BACK SOME GOOD MEMORIES , I GOT TO SEE OLD 5 TREE A FEW COON BACK IN HIS DAY , HE WAS A NICE HOUND .

This dog was a youngster I bought from Mr. Bob Gaither.

I got mad at him one night and let a buddy have him. That was probably the biggest mistake i ever made in the hound business.

He was as fast a hound as I ever put a collar on, and had a good mouth.

His mother was Bob's old Pearl bitch, and his sire was Gr. Nt. Ch. Craig's rocky.

I called him Choctaw, Choc for short.

I thought you'd notice that, Mike.

I hope he makes as good a hound as she was.

Ranger VI was one good looking sucker. That's what a hound ought to look like. I also really liked old Newton. I still hate it that my old female didn't stick when I bred her to him. He sure threw some nice dogs, and I think that there would have been some good ones out of that cross.

ranger VI is the hound I measure others by.

He made every coon look easy. It didn't seem like he ever had to labor on a coon. He treed them so slick it was almost no challenge, or so it seemed.

This is a dog I called Bojack. He was Owl Creek Moose and Arkie bred.

He was a hard hunting dog, only about medium speed, but a real accurate tree dog. he had a big mouth and maybe the prettiest locate I ever heard on a hound.

He was my first good hound, and I sold him when an older guy with lots of money offered me more than I could turn down for him.

I sure missed that dog. I'd love to hear him tree another one.

This was old Belle and a Walker dog named Rolex.

They got after this coon on a nasty February night and ran him about a mile.

He ran in a pond and they brought him out of there.

I got there in time to take this picture of them coming out of the water with him.

He was a big boar coon and put up considerable fight.

This old gentleman forgot more about Blue dogs than most of us will ever learn.

Bob gaither is holding his Joe dog.

I bred old Belle to him, but she didn't stick. I always hated that. he was an athletic, quick actioned hound.

This was a Walker dog I called Buck.

He was out of Pac man and a Woodscreek Loose bruce female.

He was a natural, a track driving sucker, and a one bark tree dog.

He was also the trashiest dog I had ever messed with up to that time.

I broke him off trash, but he got ill and had to take early retirement. I think I made him mean by not handling him right. i was used to dogs that needed tightening up on the tree, and was just a kid really. I didn't know how to handle that caliber of tree dog at that time.

I wish I could bring Buck back and have another chance with him.

I think things would be different.

A prime example of a top young prospect ruined by an ignorant hunter.

This is Belle and a couple of Walkers that were Rattle Shaker bred.

They went back to Crowding Billy and Finley River Dan on the bottom side.

This was a hard running coon that didn't run quite hard enough in some coal pits down by Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

They were a bloody mess, and covered in that old black sludge when the old coon finally gave up the ghost.

I can recall that race like it was yesterday...

I hope this thread isn't getting tiresome to anybody. I finaly got a scanner and am going over some old pictures.

The Walker dog in the picture with belle here was a dog that my cousin owned out of House's Lawyer.

He was a good son of a gun, and could smoke a coon track. He also had about as pretty a long, keen bawl mouth as was ever hung on a Walker hound.

As you can see, he wasn't hard to look at either.

His name was Ruler--my cousin called him his "measuring stick."

We had a lot of fun hunting these two dogs together. Belle would tree a coon he couldn't open on in bad nights, but he was faster than her on a red hot coon. I never saw him outrun on his kind of coon track. He was a cutting, slashing track dog.

I liked them, Wade.

Every one of them I hunted with were above average track dogs.

They weren't as tree minded as most Walker dogs are now--they wanted to have a coon before they would sit down.

They had good mouths too.

You and me both, Roger.

He was for real, as good as I ever saw.
