slim

Didnt hunt Slim in any hunts this week. Had to take him to vet
Mon. with swelled testical. Vet said it was infection. Gonna have
to lay him up and give him some anti-biotics.
Hunted Gert and Son Fri. & Sat. Hit a couple tracks off feeders
but no trees.Turned a coon loose but they caught it in a thicket
Maybe it helped them some.I'm thinking they may need some
work with older dog.Keep em blue!!!

Well, I've seen it all now. These 2 hillbillies on a computer. Hunted with these 2 a lot over the years. Always keep a good dog and are good dog men. I think Billy may be the brains of the operation. Glad to call them friends.

slim

Slim hasn't changed much except seems to be feeling better and
gained a little weight. Decided Babe wasn't going to have pups
so we began to hunt her some.
Turned coon loose to Son Wed. night. Ran it .54 mile opening
good treeing it just across Obes Creek. Knocked him out and
couldn't believe how Son went into that coon. Got bit a couple
times but really got after it then. VERRY HAPPY!!!
Hunted pups with Babe Fri. Turn Gert w/Babe first. Babe treed a
coon.Gert there but no tree.Left to run again.Turn Babe&Son next
but after covering a lot of ground never struck.
Hunted Babe &Son Sat.First track went in creek bank. Second trailed
long way slow ( probley blackberrys) and got close to a house.Had
to catch them & call it a night. Keep em blue!!!

pups 11/28/18

Pups turn 7 mon. today. Turned a big boar coon out to Son last
night. Turned in a small green feild and he left out fast so I'm
thinking this ain't gonna be good. The rascal went 500 yds. then
made a big circle & came back.Cut Around the feild & turned on
his own track about 75 yds. When Son made a lose &cut up the
way he had done been I Thought it's over now. That's how much
I know!! After acouple mins. located &sat down up a big pine with
thick underbrush.Luckily found it & knocked it out. Verry Happy!!!
Decided to go fill a feeder so I cut Son and he hit a pretty good
track for 100yds. After milling barking up a few mins. he settled
on a tall poplar. Looked hard but with all the small trees around
just couldn't find it. Good hunt. Keep em Blue.

feeder.Trailed in 250yds. to edge of creek.Circled around a few
mins. then treed a big tree sorounded by hedge bushs.Barry & I
tried hard but could only see a small part of tree & finaly gave up.
Barry hunted Gert Sat.alone. She hit one track& trailed 500 yds along creek but finaly lost it. Maybe next time.Keep em Blue!!!

pups 11/28/18

Hunted 5 nights last week.Barry & these pups are killing me. I
couldn''t do it without him as he made a couple trees when I gave
out. Getting old!!
Hunted Son alone Mon. He trailed 250yd. without bark& treed up a
nice oak 50ft off creek.Didn't really think he had it as he struggled
on track.Got out in creek & put amber lens & the eyes were shineing.
Verry Happy!! Left him to run again& called it a night.
Wed. we carried Call his1st hunt with Slim(1st hunt in 3 wk) Slim
treed 2 &holed 1 with Call staying all the way & barking up a lttle
on 1. well pleased!!Then turned Son on 2 feeders but he stalled
both times. Thur we turned Call & Slim twice and run 1 hard in a creek bank. Turned Son & Gert Twice but no strike.Fireworks didn't
help. Fri. we hunted Slim &Son together 2 drops .Slim treed 1 but Son didn't tree. Left it & went to the river &dropped Son on a feeder.
He hit a good track & treed about 50yds.Had the meat !!
Sat. we hunted Slim & Call. Slim treed 1 close so we looked at it &
re-cut them(mistake) Slim took it in 700yd across Cain Creek. I made it to creek & Barry went on. Couldn't find it. Call was circling

pups 11/28/18

Mon. hunted Son alone. After cut him loose I spotted eyes comming
down a tree. In about 5min he swung around & struck it out toward
the river. He shortly treed 100yd more close to river. I had to cross
a 15ft ditch &work my way 50yd thru ajungle of hedges, cain, briars
not to mention a steep sandy bank.Looked at the coon then petted
Son up & made my way out of there. When I got to the open woods
I had to sit down & cool before heading to truck & call it a nite.
Wed.turned 1st coon for Call. It went wrong way & he went 150yd
to steep bank of creek & stalled. When he returned we cut Son to
help.He really struggled but finally went on down creek 150yd &
treed in creekbank. Pleased with Call !! Hard to hunt 3 pups. Got to
cut down to 2 soon.Keep em Blue!!

pups 11/28/18

Made some changes last wk. Sold Gert &Call to 2 fine young men.
They should make them proud. Nothing wrong with either . Just
couldn't hunt 3. Decided to put all time in Son & Slim as Slim is only
2 he still needs work & finished to Gr.Nt. He has been cleared by vet
to go back to work.
Hunted Slim & Son Fri. Got on 2 Really bad long tracks. Slim treed once in a den & once in a thick tree.Never seen either. On 2nd tree
Son treed close by on a tree crossing a creek into another tree. Son
still hasn't treed with another dog.
Mon. hunted Son alone. Turned a boar loose& he went wrong way but Son took him 200yd crossed Obes Creek & put him up a big poplar tree. Knocked it out & went to fill a couple feeders. Hit a track
too cold for him. Trailed in (verry slow) 250yd & stalled where he hit
a few barks on a tree but never locked it. He finally came in & we moved to another feeder. Hit a good track & went 75yd & began to look up. Just as he located & bark a few times a cyote opened up right on top of him. Son came packing to me looking back &bugar
barking He was done so I filled the feeder&called it a nite.
Keep em Blue!!

Slim & Son

Not much good news this week. Hunted Slim & Son Fri. Worked 2 realy bad tracks. Slim treed once in a large oak & once in a big pine with muscadines . Never seen either. Son never treed 1st but was at 2nd moving around barking up winding. We moved &cut Son on a feeder. He struck & went 150yd to Cain Creek. He barked up a few times then crossed the creek(didn't expect that). After he stayed a while without picking it up I toned him back. Good to have a handle before hunt a pup.
Sat. Slim & Son hit a good track & ran 400yd where Slim treed a big oak on creek bank. We couldn't see anything. Cut Son alone next. He hit a good track but it went wrong way. Posted & a real nut. We cut him off & called it a night.
Hunted Son alone Mon. He got after 2 tracks way too bad for a pup & never treed. Bad nites come regular with a 7 mon. pup. Keep em blue!!

Slim & Son

Hunted Son Thu. but couldn't get after nothing but 2 cold tracks & no tree
Fri we hunted Slim & Son They hit a good track & crossed Cain Creek went 100yd where Slim pulled up on a big oak. Barry soon found him & we cut them on down the creek. They went about 100yd & both opened. Son began to bark up followed by Slim. When we arrived they were on a tree lean over the creek. We weren't too sure about it so we decided I took Son back to truck & sent Slim off to try to strike it out.He went all around but couldn't pick it up.Slim finally skipped out & struck another track. He treed it pretty quick & we looked at him & moved to a feeder & cut Son. He trailed 250yd & began to bark up. Didn't sound good but I went to him. He was in a hedge thicket totaly confused. Leashed him up & called it a nite.
Sat.Pepper hunted Slim UKC at Jasper . He did OK but lost.He did win the show. I hunted Son while they were on the cast. He hit a slow trailing track 400yd along Cain Creek to a slew where he stalled. After an hour he quit.Called it a nite. Keep em Blue!!

Slim & Son

Hunted Son alone Mon & Wed but couldn't get after nothing but a couple tracks too bad for a pup. He tried to tree once but was more winding & barking up in the air.
We hunted Slim & Babe at Empire UKC Fri. Both dogs had dead cast on 1st round.Hunted Slim 2nd round but he lost to a spotted dog.All our hunting is going kinda rough right now.
Sat we hunted Slim, Son, & Bird(secret weapon). Cut Slim & Son first on Cain Creek. They struck a bad feed track & trailed everywhere . Hit up a few times but finaly gave up. Moved to another place & cut Bird on a feeder where she struck & trailed 250yd & come treed like an old dog. Looked at the coon& petted her up(WOW) she can shell it out. Cut Son on another feeder where he trailed all around not barking then treed on a huge oak.Looked in first fork & 2 kittens looking back. Good Hunt!!! Keep Em Blue!!!

Bird 1/6/19

Bama Blue Moon JayBird (Bird) is out of Gr Nt Ch Mose's Pink Floyd X Gr Nt Ch Ch Koon Krossin Rambo's Blue Grits. She is half sister to our Slim.
Pepper Blackmon brought her over at 3 1/2 months . She had never been shown anything so I got out my pole & a tail & played with her then ran it up a tree. She sat down & shelled it.I put it away but she wouldn't quit looking for it. Barry was completely hooked. We bought her & I began to get a handle & get ready to hunt. She's a little short on mouth & looks but a complete natural. Barry will be hunting her while I work Son.
So far we have turned 1 coon that she ran 150yd & treed in style. Barry has turned her 6 times alone on feeders & she has treed 3 times with a coon every time. Slim was natural & so is she.Grits may be as good a reproducer as I've seen!! Keep Em Blue!!!

Son/Bird

Hunted Son alone Mon. along Little Warrior River. He struck quick & went tward the river.After200yd he hung up a few minutes in a thicket but soon moved on. It's realy thick close to the bank with 6 to 10 ft banks in most places. He kept slowly grinding to 900yd & stopped moving.I couldn't hear him so I drove up a hill where I could hear him treeing.Had to go back to river & walk a log road to him. He was on a fallen tree in the river & I couldn't get down the bank to him.Called him up to me & made a slow hot trip to truck. I was pleased as he did all he could. When they get able to tree these kind their on the way.
Tue. we turned a boar out for Son & Bird .This was the 1st time Bird has been cut with another dog. They went 150yd & crossed Obes Creek.. At another 50yd Son came treed soon folowed by Bird.We Made it in & they were up a big pine. Barry soon found it & rolled it out.Called it a nite. Like to quit on a good note with pups. Keep Em Blue!!!

Slim-Bird-Son

Hunted Son & Bird Fri. out of boat on Warrior River. Big mistake. So foggy we couldn't see the bank from as close in as was safe to run. This is definatly not my favorite way to hunt but is a great way to get pups on hot tracks especialy in hot dry weather. We finaly spotted one & turned on it. They ran it 75yd & Bird grabbed a cherry tree. Barry soon found it. Son was there but only barked a few times standing back.Right now he just will not tree unless he trees first.Maybe he will start soon. We finaly gave up as the fog made it to bad to see anything. I called it a nite but Barry carried Bird to a couple feeders where Bird treed twice & he found 1. Bird turned 7mon Tue & has made 10 trees with 9 coons
We took Slim & Son Sat to our hunt club where Slim treed twice & had both.Son treed 15yd away on first but I thank he just moved over. On 2nd tree Son went on .6 mile & we had to catch him crossing a road. I called it a nite to be able to make church.Barry carried Bird to 2 feeders where she treed 2 more coons. AMAZING!!!I don't know if I ever seen a pup with more natural ability Keep Em BLue!!
