Jen I know you are going to blast me for saying this but are the wins really worth scratching somebody for something minor to win at all cost ? I mean a title is easier then ever to obtain if you got a dog that will just tree a coon. Except at the major hunts unless I am wrong all wins are more less for personal satisfaction!! I can understand the $$$ hunts being more cutthroat but we are hunting for cast wins now !!!

Except for the blue ribbons and dog boxes I am giving everybody woooo hoooo !!

I've seen it enough to know it keeps people from coming out. I'll take my scratch if me or my dog deserve it but I've seen it try to be used when it wasn't deserved.

Like I said earlier I can’t remember the last time iv seen anyone get scratched unless it was a NtCh cast and we all got scratched, iv Never scratched anyone! But if someone breaks a rule for what ever reason an gets scratched how is that wrong? I don’t like the rule where you get scratched for squalling to early or shining before the judge starts the time and several other rules I don’t like but that don’t give me or you the rite to ignore it.
I pay my money I’m gonna Hunt, with that said I paid $30 two weeks ago and hunted 3 minutes and withdrew cause I seen something I didn’t like, now I’m Not gonna withdrew to keep you from getting scratched and I don’t stay Hopeing you do. You reading way to much from my post I hunt because I enjoy it and have way better dog than to hope you get scratched so I can win, Don’t think that’s even happened!

Scratching

I agree with Jen and Chey about scratching someone over a minor infraction! If you can not win by beating the other dogs and just are hoping for something to scratch another dog to win, then you have a real problem. Yes rules are rules, but a man's character should not be defined by winning by default, it should be defined by honor at all times. I do not want a cheap win by default, I would hope that most of us would think the same way. Dave

I agree

The scratch mentality drives me crazy. Squalling rule is by far the dumbest rule I've ever heard of. I agree with Josh as well in the fact that there are people out there that haven't done their homework and expect to win. They don't know the rules, don't know a coon dog, and don't know how to truly compete... This very thing got me wrote up (sorta) a few weeks ago and I'm still not sure what for... More people should hunt a month of $KC hunts throughout the week and run for a truck ticket. It teaches you a lot as far as getting beat by a dog/handler one night and going right back at them the next, night in and night out.

My question pertains to do you grin like Chester the cat if someone gets scratched for some minor offense or do you feel even a little but bad? For those that love it there is a new tee shirt out I saw over the weekend... United Kennel Club, If you can't beat em' scratch em'.

Tyler they know enough to hunt a instant first strike dog and an instant from 500 yards away 75 tree dog and lean on you all night long while your dog is treeing the coons and there is a bunch of them out there. You make one mistake and you are got. They don’t do nothing but go to hunts with those dogs.

Let’s say a man is 275 behind the lead dog and he shines the tree before the judge starts the time he argues and don’t take his scratch, 33 minutes later he wins the cast where is your honor in that?

If you are down 800 with 10 minutes to go you gonna turn loose and hope the leader gets scratched?

Are you asking where is the honor in coming from three coons down in a half hour to win is?

Go back and read the first post. It was started for those who disagree with simple change proposals that would get rid of some of these rules. Those that do are part of the scratch mentality hoping for a scratch so they can pull out a win.

I think some of the scratching offense are waste of good paper. But I dont remember last time I saw a dog scratched that wasnt caught fighting. Prob be 50 cast at least.

If a person started. kennel club where there was absolutely no way to get scratched other than going back to trees he would put everyone out of business. The rules would need to be
Strike them as soon as they bark
First tree only trees we are scoring first trees only if you tree second third or 4th and a coon is seen your strike is minus
Walk to the tree as soon as the dog is treed no waiting 5 minutes
Minus them for Off game
Let them fight
Let the handlers fight
Let them drink cold beer at the club house
Cut your dogs from the base of the tree you were treed up
Everything else as far and the 6 or 8 minutes on the strike or 2 minutes on hushing at the tree could be a copy cat from any kennel club at it would work.
The most important thing would be to hunt for money and lots of it. I promise you these style of hunts are more enjoyable than any other hint because I’ve hunted in a few Jackpot hunts that were a lot like this. If a person could give away big money under rules like these he would fill any entry he wanted to have.

Tim

The honor is letting the best dog win, not sneaking in the back door on a honest mistake like shining a tree. I realize what the RULES say, but that's a mighty slim offense, just like a mistake on a scorecard. If you can win like that and call it honor, I am happy for you. Myself, I just do not want that kind of win. Now if the other dig or dogs do something like Tre off game and get scratched, that's a different story. Let the best dig wink not some scratch happy handler that does not have the dig power to win. I can't speak for no one but myself, but looking for something to scratch an otherwise decent handler over a silly mistake is just poor sportsmanship in my opinion and I am sticking to that opinion. How many times have you done something that you could have been scratched for, but was not scratched? If your answer is even once, I don't want to hear about RULES. We ALL have caught a break at least once probably several times if you have hunted in many hunts. I believe our comments are directed to those who feel the need to play the RULES when it benefits them and ignore the RULES when it would be to their disadvantage. Get a better dog and you won't worry about someone shining a tree to quick, or blowing a squaller to soon. Dave

Tar you know exactly what Josh means don't go playing the big d_/#y 😉. He is referencing the handler who has absolutely no chance of ever winning the cast but stays to the bitter end with the hope the others get scratched on some technically instead of getting out of the way of dogs who are truly competing for the win.

Now Jen , everyone knows Cheyenne , Tar and I are the staunch Bastions of politically correctness , and proper decorum. JMHO
