HUNT

Went for a little while last night. I took Cotton and John Wayne. Turned Cotton alone first drop and she struck quick and treed in just a short time. She was on a big den tree and couldn't see coon. Next drop things went south. Turned Cotton and John loose and Cotton struck one of those bad tracks. Cotton and John worked that coon across the entire bottom and finally got treed. Started to tree and there laid on of them many cottonmouths that are in the bottom. My snake stick took care of him quickly. We went about 5 steps and ther was his buddy. I knocked him in the head and we continued to the tree. Wasn't too far and there was another one. I got him and we made it to the tree. Another Den!! They treed good on it and we got them and headed out. Before we got to the truck we encountered another one of our slithering friends and I took care of him!! Coons weren't stirring but them dang snakes sure were!!!!! Yall Keep'em Lookin Up!! Darren

This is a young dog that I am hunting that has a lot of potential. He is getting better each time out. He was a little inmature at first but is coming around. Just hasn't had the woods time he has needed. Gone put some pressure on him and see what he can do. This was a den last night and looks like kittens had been up and down all the small trees around there as well. John Wayne is 19mths old. Darren

I had planned on making a hunt with you real soon but, after that pic, it will be a while longer! LOL I guess I will see you after it gets cold. That is alot of snakes to kill on the way to one tree. I would have to find a new place to hunt.

SNAKES

I needed a little excitement on some of my hunts lately but would probably not chosen this kind of excitement if given the choice!! LOL The bottom that I hunt in always gets like this. Dog days of summer when they mate and shed their skin. Skin covers their eyes and they cant see well, they bite whatever moves in front of them!!!

Ole Drake was amazed by me popping them suckers with that stick. One good lick to the head and its over. Drake said he dreamed about shoot them with a shotgun last night!! Lol.

Better take a weeks vacation & come on up. 79 today, 49 tonight- NO snakes & lots of coon. If I saw one of those things, I'd give up coonhunting & take up crocheting until the weather cooled off. Take care, Ron.

Hunt

Sounds like a plan Ron.

Hunted in UKC hunt at jasper tonight. Won ch female and I cost Cotton the hunt. She didn't look too sharp on first turnout as dogs got in blown over timber. She drew 25- so we got out easy. Next drop I treed her too quick and drew 125- She got treed first on next three trees. I had first and first on two and second and first on last tree. Ended up with 250+. Add the 125 - that I got her and she had 375+. 350 + won my cast. Dang. Get them next time. Darren

HUNT

Went for a little while last night. Had a coon to turn loose so I just took my two 8 mth old Razor pups and my young dog John Wayne. He is around 19 mths old but hasn't been hunted a lot. Turned coon loose and waited about 5 minutes and collared up pups. I cut pups loose and all 3 struck and ran around like crazy for a minute. Finally Stroker pup got it straightened out. They ran the coon down the field and into the bottom. It soon became evident that the coon had no intention of climbing quickly. They worked that coon for about 45 minutes but soon progress slowed down. Had some guys with me and they turned some older dogs loose. I didn't feel so bad about pups then cause the older dogs didn't shine too much either.After about and hour and about 600 yds later John started locating but wouldn't stick the tree. Soon one of the older dogs came in and hit the tree and that's all John needed and he loaded up. He treed good but neither of my young pups treed much on it. Had John and two older dogs on tree so they were a little intimidated. Just gone stay after them and keep them interested until cooler weather gets here and then put some pressure on them. TUESDAY NIGHT

Had to take a night off last night. Had to put a brake caliper on my sons car so I just sat it out. Going to get after them tonight. Gotta put the pressure on John Wayne and see if he is ging to continue to eat my feed or not. He has potential and is going to be a tree dog for sure. Jason Seale called me last night and sounded like ole DUECE was giving them coons heck, he treed two last night. Made me wish I was out there chaing them coons myself.

Tommy sounds like you had a good night. I am going after them tonight. I was looking a little harder where I stepped after the 3rd snake and I guess that's why I got number 4!! I showed some guys that hunted with me Monday night those pictures and you should have seen them going thru the woods LOL!! One guy didn't even go to the tree!! The other was carrying a big ole stick about 6 feet long and big around as a pepsi can !! I told him that was too big. I broke my little snake stick over an armadillo's head Monday night!! hunt

Had a good hunt last night. Started raining and thundering just before Drake and myself turned loose. We dropped BB and John Wayne first turnout. BB struck in at about 200 yds followed by John. They worked the track down the bottom about 400 yds and BB loaded up and treed hard. John treed hard at times but was a little sporatic until I got to the tree. When I leashed him and petted him up he lit the tree up the whole time I was looking for the coon. The had a coon and we loaded up for next drop. We cut Cotton alone along the creek. It was raining and thundering but she left out hunting. She soon struck at about 175 yds and started working a good track. She worked the track across the creek into a little bottom. She was about 600 yds and close to a gravel road. I heard her load up on the tree and I drove around to her. She treed solid for a pretty good while as we made our way to her. She had her coon. We were soaked and called it a night. Best tracks we have been after in quite sometime. Hope coons are getting back to regular hours of feeding. Gone get after them again tonight, Yall Keep'em Lookin Up!! Darren

Hard hunting

Clyde you are right. Most of these guys around me talk alot about it but are sitting on the couch on these rough nights. It has been rough and unpleasant alot of nights over the past few weeks but I just keep plugging away at these ole pot lickers. Sounds like you are putting on Brummy and getting him ready for the big boy hunt. Stay on him and good luck!!! Darren

Hunt

Hunted for awhile tonight. First drop I cut Cotton and John Wayne in bottom. Cotton struck in about 100 yds followed by John. They trailed coon about 200 yds in bottom and Cotton loaded up. John didn't back her so I headed on in to tree. I got nearly to Cotton's tree and John loaded up about 50 yds to the right. He treed hard and both dogs had a coon. Next drop I laid a drag for my 8 mth old pup Blade. He is a half brother to Cotton. He has never had a coon shot out to him. He found the tree in quick fashion and was pretty intense. He treed the first time he was taken to the woods. I cut Cotton and John loose again in bottom and Cotton struck bad track. She worked it awhile and got treed up tree with big muscadine vine. I couldn't find her coon but he could've been there. I turned John alone in a small corn field. He was winding and left out. He opened a couple times and hushed. He skipped out and got down in bottom. I heard him let out three big bawls and heard a coon squall. He caught one on ground and had it killed when I got there. We called it a night and bout to head home. The video is my Blade pup. Y'all keep'em lookin up. !!!

Football

Well football season is here and I have committed to coaching a pee wee football team. Might slow my hunting down for a few weeks but I sure do enjoy teaching these young men the game of football and the game of life. First practice is today so we will see what we got !! Gone try to turn these ole pot lickers loose tonight as well. Y'all keep'em lookin up!!! Darren
