Rex I have a 10-22 Ruger. Light and deadly. I really like it. I had the trigger worked on and it takes about 1 pound to go off. It is smooth now. I was shooting gums balls off tree one after another.

Never made it to fairgrounds--mowed the road side instead with my old Massey 180 diesel as close to the old tractors I got to today-- but there's tomorrow, who knows may be more to look at. Used a weed mower kind of like the old Michels mower(no its no kin to Jim Bob) but has a string on it instead of a blade ok for flat land but a big no no for hill sides, and I tried it on ditch bank, got it done but never again. Better off with weed eater. By the time I was done I was sweatin' more than a crooked politician at election time!!!!!!!!!

10-4 on UPG----Oh-oh don't know for sure but it sounds like Mike's a fixin' on eatin' high on the squirrel this winter.

I went coonhunting......with a camera..had a couple hands full of seed corn left from the food plots...threw them out the shop window this morning...heres what was on it this evening...those 10 -22 are nice rifles...

Hey Guys, I will give you an old time recipe for some salve to use in case your dogs get wounded or have cuts and scrapes. My grandmother gave me this years ago works like a charm. We had a goat once at my dads place got caught in the fence dog got a hold of it and ripped a hole in one leg as big as your fist. Packed it with this salve and it healed in no time. I guess you could use it on people too.
1 part vaseline or bag balm (I use bag balm)
1 teaspon sulphur powder
1 teaspon boric acid
1/4 tsp camphor spirits
You can get the sulphur, boric acid, and camphor spirits at Dicks Pharmacy in Arthur. 1 batch last a long time. Tony uses this on his dogs all the time for cuts and such. Have a good one.

does it look like this.........kinda of a bright yellow color from the sulfuric acid...thats almost the exact recipe dad always used..he got it from grandpaw,who got it from old man popham when they ran the livery stables in town thats all old man popham would use on them horses and mules he rented out......if you have a spot it wont stick to just add a little more camphor oil to it..

I was reading Illinois outdoor news and the FOID card list is to be kept private under new rules, and they had a big debate on mountain lions in Illinois not being here, and they spotted one in West Quincy Missouri just across river from Quincy Illinois. A sherrifs deputy in Missouri saw it and it is definitley a mountain lion just North of US 24. Everybody has been saying there are no mountain lions this far east I guess that shot that theory. That could be a WAMPUS CAT too end of accurate report.

down mikes way or even a little further south..,10 years ago they hit one with a train..local guys picked it up brought to town,20 25 people seen it took pic.'s of it..state confiscated the loins body...gone never happened what lion....now they have had 10 or 12 more sightings in that area [coulterville].the state now is willing to admitt there maybe lions there...bobcats are already here,,mikes has had those for awhile now and they are migrating north....treed 3 last winter..2nd night of season...all in the same tree..one bailed out and the old dog got a mouth full of kitty azz fur...tell you right where I treed them...farthest parking lot on fox ridge north..the road going down to the old hanley place....5 wolf spottings in northen ILL. and a couple black bear too coming out of Wis..and a couple cougar sighting up there too...

Rex back in 1973 I was patrolling the Crab Orchard Refuge and got a call to meet with the state and take them behind the closed gate. They turned two pairs of lions loose which were black. Seen them one time in about a year. So they been here for awhile plus the state is never going to admit to it either. I have seen their prints in the mud while coon hunting. If they ever kill one of my dogs while hunting I will start carrying a gun winter and summer.

the one at coulterville was a blonde,warden up here said theres was no law about shooting the lions ,but the bob's were protected...go figure..I know the bobs about ruined that at cache river..we would go down there with the beagles and jump 8 or ten of them swamp rabbits ..and 20 or more cotton tails in a days time..starting about 10 years ago the population went down..last time I was there 2 years ago we jumped and ran the hell out of one swamper[I wouldn't let them shoot it.]and 5 or 6 cottentails..that was it..didn't even go down last year...

The lions are not protected. You can shoot them on site. Bobcats are protected not suppose to shoot them but those hairy triggers go off some times.

Old Tooty Veach and Gus Phipps swore they seen black panthers before at Pinnells gravel pit and Linda's mom said she heard 'em many times where they lived---not me but don't want to either. That's one reason I don't care so much for summer huntin'--can't have a gun, I'm not much of a rock chucker. Course a 22 aint much good on a big cat, but I can make some noise.

No a 22 not much but start pumping 10 22s in him I think it would turn him. I don't want to try it either. But the man I hunt with carries a big hand gun on him in the woods. Just finished my spraying in front of the house. Now just sit back and let round up do it's job.

Yeh that liquid mow is the way to go. Spotty went down to Doug Gossetts today and came by on the river hill and saw one of your bucket coons on the highway. Won't do much good to feed them if the cars are going to goodyear them. Just got done for the day ourselves. Just not enought hours or not enough energy I don't know which.

good morning men...going to be a warm one today..Ealys coming over this morning with the backhoe,got 6 or 8 stumps to dig out back at the food plots..going to try and get done early and beat the heat...

Howdy all its not to bad here yet Mike, but weather map shows 98 here today and heat index 105-115. Spotty airtight is droppin'--no boat rides up here.

I took out 26 stumps..getting ready to disk and put out the late season winter food out........I took out some mighty stubborn stumps......we quit at noon, getting hot...Ask big momma bigtimber..when I'am supposed to plant my late fall turnips and sugar beets .been so long since I planted any I've forgot..thought it was the 2nd week in Aug. but not sure....

Rex, You need to plant them 4-6 weeks before avg frost date. I would wait until the 1st week in September. Best days to plant in September are 12, 13, 16, 17, 20th-22nd according to almanac for below ground crops. Also TD said to tell you on the way to Dougs yesterday saw a monster buck on Westfield road. At least an 8 pointer maybe a 10 Still had velvet on but it was a nice buck huge rack. Thankfully he didn't end up as our hood ornament.

10 -4 on the root crop..thanks..I been seeing a nice buck there north of the whetstone church..MIL hit one 3 weeks ago..totaled her car..we car shopped most of the weekend,didn't see any that fancied her,so we will keep looking..going to be hot picking berries by the end of the week..total on the coons hit on the river hill this week was 8..hope they fair better next week..
