COOL RIDGE, W.Va. (AP) - Police say an elderly Cool Ridge woman who fatally shot a burglar won't face any charges.
Raleigh County sheriff's Lt. Jim Canady tells media outlets that the woman acted in self-defense when she shot 50-year-old Beverly Cooper of Cool Ridge on Wednesday night.
Canady says the woman told police Cooper tried to enter her home through a window. She said she confronted Cooper but the woman kept trying to get in the house.
Canady says the woman feared for her safety and shot Cooper.
Raleigh County Sheriff Steve Tanner says the homeowner and her family won't be identified
