Pups came Monday. Six are still alive, lost 3. Hopefully no more. Maggie seems to have them all fed now. We'll see in a few days.

Got a count today - not offical - and it looks like I have 3 females and 3 males. All doing well as of now. All 3 females are currently spoken for, but all the males are for sale. $350.00 each.
I also picked up my stud pup from Chris Huff today. She's out of Trueboy and Chris' Annie female who out of Mike Fairchild's Doc X Super Be and is double Slewfoot bred. A lot of Smokey River Diamond Jim blood right there...

Forgot the camera again tonight. Made 3 drops with Trueboy. He went in the first drop about 800 yards, stood up on 3 times in an area full of dens, but didn't locate or tree. He came back and I went to another woods. He struck a track 50 yards from the truck and ran it 350 yards, got into an area where he located twice but didn't tree, and by then I had driven up to him and caught him heading for a road with no where to tree a head of him for over a mile. Made on last drop. I found 3 tracks in the snow coming from a barn and into the woods. I cut him on the tracks, he opened about 30 yards in and drove it about 230 yards and treed on a dead fall snag. Had the meat and got a taste. Headed home and here I sit, s**t, showered, and shaved for work tomorrow.

I will have videos of the pups tomorrow. I have one female spoke for, and a deposit on one male. I had all sold, but the buyer of a male and a female dropped out recently. $350.00.

God lord willing all the pups will be picked up this weekend. The 2 females are going the the eastern UP of Michigan for coon and cat, 1 male to eastern Ontario for coon and possibly bear, and the other male is going to southern Ontario for coyote.

The male pups went off to Canada today, plus a young female off Trueboy went over the bridge yesterday. The 2 female pups will go to the UP this coming Friday. Getting quiet, too quiet, around here...

Stormcrow
Jim
So sorry to hear about Crow. These hounds are more than just dogs to us , they are out friends and our hunting partners. The times we share with these hounds are a blessing as we watch them grow to be amazing hunters. The memory that Stormcrow left with us will never be overlooked and the contribution she has made throughout the bluetick breed will be seen through her future generations. She will never be forgotten as a great hunter, reproducer and friend. RIP Lake Hurons Ormistons Storm crow
Mike
Crow
Sorry for your loss Jim.

Crow
Jim, sorry to hear about Crow. She was half sister to my Julie and looked very much alike. Just of thinking of the loss of Julie and I can imagine what you must be feeling with the deceased of Crow.
Saludos,
Hector
Thanks Hector. How is that pup doing? Any photos or videos you can send me.

Well, here we go... I got that Trueboy X Pistol Anne pup I call Abbie back just over a week ago, then low and behold, I got Ernest to let me have Pepper back. Pepper was GiGi's pup out of KDS Ben X Stormcrow, the second cross. Pepper will be 3 in July. I sold her as a pup to Ernest Taylor. Ernest's health problems got worse after he got Pepper, and he decided to sell her back to me. She's not yet started and is fat as can be, but I'm glad as hell to have her back. She's a younger full sister to Trueboy. Hopefully, I'll get her and Maggie out in the woods next month and run the fat off her. She's smart, good handling gyp, so we'll know more over the course of the next few months!

Crow
Sorry to hear of your loss Jim! They just do not live long enough. Take care!
Thanks Pat! You're right, the good ones seem to die too young. Getting Pepper back and getting her hunting will ease (hopefully) the loss of Crow. I might look at breeding Pepper to Earl. I know it's quite tight on one side, but not on the other side in the pedigree...

Earl
Just let me know! He turned out to be one awesome hound. Come for a hunt this training season. You do not even need a license anymore. So let me know it starts July 1.
Training season is in but I've yet to turn a hound loose. I'm waiting for the corn to turn a little more, and the dark to come a little sooner. Abby and Pepper will need a lot of time to get going. Maggie and Trueboy just need a tune up. I am hoping to bred Maggie to John Gill's Cache hound on her next heat cycle in November, December, but am also looking at Pat Quaintance 's Earl dog very seriously. Earl is off my old love Stormcrow (Crow) x Mike Fairchild's old Slewfoot. Word is Earl is hell on coyote and bear. Decissions to be made for sure in the coming months...

Went to Canada Sunday night and had a great hunt with Scott Oulds, Kendra Oulds, Stephen Oulds, and Calvin Oulds. It was a nice night. Had some decent runs and treed some coon, but still the company was better then ever! First drop we had my Maggie, Stephen's Dash male (Trueboy X Maggie) and Scott was hunting his dad's Nite Champion Fancy gyp. I also had my pup Abbey along for the ride. They ran a heck of a track and treed deep in the bush with the coon. All sounded great on the tree and they had the meat 460 yards from the truck.
The second drop when the hounds went deep and then Maggie and Fancy came back and struck close to truck and treed 30 yards from the truck. Calvin and Kendra found the coon from the tailgate!
The last drop saw just Scott and me going it alone. The young folk even call off for the night, and Calvin had to take grandma home. Scott picked up his Grand Nite Champion female Lexie and left Fancy off with the other party poopers. We had a long drop on the next one with Dash, Maggie, and Lexie (who is due in a month with pups off the old Droop dog). The went deep, the struck track, they brought it back to us with Maggie trying to tree before Dash picked it up and took it through a soybean field to tree on the creek. We didn't find the coon, but they sounded good in the tree. We then called it a night as I had to turn the truck back to the Blue Water Bridge and home...
My Maggie on the left, Scott Ould's Gr. Nt. Ch. Lexie in the middle, Stephen Ould's Dash pup in the back. Dash is out of my Maggie and Trueboy.

I finally got out into my own country last night with Trueboy, Maggie, and little Abbey. I went to a pond I hunt around a lot, one of my favorite spots north of town. Maggie and Trueboy went back behind the pond and treed on a cottonwood on the south edge of the cattail slough, but I could only shine the north side of the tree and couldn't find a coon.
I walked them west back to the cornfield and headed them south. The went down and without me paying attention, slipped back east into the woods and treed on the east side of the slough, again in a big cottonwood. I treed on this tree 3 times last year, but this time I again couldn't find a coon.
Last drop was southeast of town in my favorite woods in that area. Maggie struck and Trueboy hit in quick on it. They trailed a short ways and treed on a basswood den with a hole in the bottom and a snag at the top. That woods was drier then I've seen since back in '98 and '99. It was a pretty night to hunt, first cool one in a while.
I did find out that I forgot not to hunt this 2 hounds together as they seem to trust each other too much. I need to get back to singling them out so I find more coon. Separate they are good hounds. Together they want to back each other when it's wrong too often. I forgot that until it was too late to fix the issue, but there is next time!
