Just got home from Jon Christmas' house.

We had a crew of dogs out tonight. We had the following folks and their dogs:

Andy Sloan with Duke and Daisy

Jon with Jim

Me with Jack

We cut loose and they all galloped off the line. Daisy just came off of pups so she only made it out about 80 yards and decided there was something better to smell up around us.

Jack, Jim, and Duke all went hunting....hard. They grubbed up a track and took it about 600 yards. That's when Jack decided he wanted to do something different. Duke and Jim sat down and treed with the meat about 650 yards from where we turned loose.

Jack ended up taking another track back towards where we cut loose at. He was treed a while as we had to collect Jim and Duke and then dive back around to get him. It was a nasty medium sized tree that touched two other trees. Oh, well. I had a good time tonight with Jon and Andy. I'm happy as a clam to be back in the timber.

Wel, last night was not Jack's best night in the timber. He hunted out, but he had to get a horse race out of the way....twice. But we had a chat about running just to be running and then he went on out and hunted.

Oh well, a young dog will be a young dog.

Had a great night with Jack tonight.

When I cut loose it was 88 degrees and muggy as all get out. He covered over a mile of ground the first drop and didn't say a word. So I changed plans and went to a different spot.

The second drop I cut him loose and he didn't get but about 65 yards out and threw two big locates and then sat down on it. I waited a bit to make sure he was sure of himself and then walked to him. As I walked up the coon looked straight down at me. He did a bang up job on a horrible night.

As always here are some pics from tonight (and I got some doozies tonight)

Well Saturday night was a rough one. We had three good dogs out there (Duke, Roxy, and Jack) and couldn't get anything even going until after 1 a.m.

When we did get something going it was along a creek and it was a OLD and COLD.

The first drop the dogs hunted and hunted and hunted (well over 5 or 6 miles covered) and never even picked up a decent track. Duke boo hooed on a track here and there but nothing he could muster up.

The second one is when they struck that old one. Jack and Roxy were out front and man was it a bad one.

We ended up crossing the creek and sitting down under a tree. Andy's young female that just came off of pups came with us after she had hunted out good in another direction. When she came into us there at the tree she started to work around and check the tree we were all sitting around. Then she pulled way up on it and whined. Andy petted her up and she started into treeing....and sure as the sun she had a little ole kitten coon laid up. It was a good night for her. She got loved up good.

All in all a rough night, but it was good for both Andy and his Daisy female.

.....all the older dogs looked about half dumb. lol

Jim & Roxy

Well Jim has been lookin stupid here lately, not wantin to back another dog on tree or even hunt with another dog. Roxy treed friday night with the meat and Jim wanted nuthin to do with it.

But last night was a different story.
I cut out along a corn field on top of a big holler. Right out of the box Roxy went straight, and Jim cut right handed and struck quick. Roxy came up and put in with him and burn't a hot track to a hole. I'm guessin that coon came down when I drove in. I called them off that hole and walked about 20yds in towards the holler and Jim struck in again, and Roxy put in with him on a cold cold track in the awful is mess you can imigiane. It was hog weeds, briars, and honey suckles. They moved the track about 180 yds real slow and fell treed on a big cedar. Roxy was choppin it hard and Jim was a lil loose, but still tighter on it than he has been. When I finally got to the tree I called Jim and tied him back, while pettin him up real good. They had at least 2 if not 3 coons in the top of that cedar. 1 was a big big coon about 20pds, or so.

I was real happy with both of them last night. They looked real good, and got it done in style in some hard ground. More of a place for beagle hounds than a male pup that you could put a saddle on and let the kids ride at the fair.
Jim at 10 months old measured almost 27in at the withers, at a bench show in grandview, In.

Glad to hear that Jim is turning it on. Like you told me the other night, "Patience". lol

He seems to be putting it together now and is just going through the paces of a dog that is growing up.

That Roxy did a good job on Saturday night too. I'll post that story here later this evening.

I'm gonna that he is wanting to real accurate and with the heat and being so dry that is what is causing him to be slow on tree. But I can guarantee the only way to to get strike on him is to be babbling, cause he is a strike dog deluxe. So far of the dogs I've out him with he has gotten the strike, Jenny might be the one to break that streak.

Boy howdy was it a rough night.

First off it was 82 degrees with something like 90%humidity when I cut loose.....makes for a hard night.

Jack went hunting and half halfheartedly bayed up. So after listening to this for a bit I decided to see what was up. It was a gigantic opossum. I then commenced to hold a prayer vigil on the subject for the next good bit. Once I felt like he had seen the light we went on.

The second drop he struck a COLD COLD COLD track. And if I didn't have to be at work in 6 hours I would have let him finish grubbing that thin out. It was in a horrible mess of vines, weeds, thorns, and saplings. He was working it out and working it out and actually starting to line it out a bit, but I had to get back here because Uncle Sam doesn't take the "Well Sir, I was up coonhunting" excuse very well. =P

Oh well we got some training in and he showed that he can go hunting and keep his spirit up even when he knows he screwed up. I'll have to put that in the plus column.

We will have plenty of good folks and plenty of Jabo pups out in West Tennessee.

Jon Bailey, Tim Hargrove, and Jon Christmas....guys I will see you there.

As for Larry, thanks so much for allowing all of us hooligans to come out and hunt with you and soak up some of Dora's good food.

Hey Kent you was right hunting up here in Washington is totally different and hard. Duke got on a bear track and they did tree. But Jack didnt get to go out hunting he tried to show his ass and fight one of the dogs, which is odd cause he never did that before. The brush is thick and and you have to go through it no going around. But we are going to start traping and get them on some life ones... if you ever wanna come up and give it a shot there is always room
