Thanks
I enjoy reading your updates. Thanks for posting these.
Wish more folks would tell a little about there hunts & hounds. Your welcome Nick. I turnt 61 a few minutes ago and had a good night of hunting. Ed Green & Jeremy, X son in law went. Ed gyp Abby a sister to Luke & Bonnie done a fine job. We ended up treeing 3 trees with coon, a den & a slick tree. Was the first slick tree in a few nights. Tracking seemed to be tough the later it got. I do believe that litter of hounds are as good as I've seen. I haven't hunted with the male Sleepy had but the 7 I've hunted lots with are nice.

My last hunt was with Tommy Carroll and his sons who are 10 and 7 and tough as they come. They had their walker little jimmy and I had kid. First turn both struck at 300 trailed a little and shut up and next look at Garmin were 500. Kid turns and comes back where they opened and barked again a few times then got quite. In a few he’s was 500 behind us opening and treed quickly. Jimmy was about a mile opposite direction treed. Went to kid and before I could get my light in tree Lawson the 7 year old yells he’s got him. Went to jimmy and he had a big nest that I would bet had a coon in it as he is extremely accurate but I gave boys a hard time telling them it was slick. Started raining pretty hard and we went home. Lot of fun hunting with these kids as they love it.

Bob, I certainly remember some of my first hunts. Those boys will also. My grandsons tell me in detail of hunts we've been on.

Tim was over with Kate & John. Peyton the grandson went along to help us out. Luke & Reb was ready for a hunt. First drop they got treed around 600 yds on a den tree. We sent on where they treed on a coon after going over 1000 yds. Next drop they went through a section and didnt strike. Next drop 460 yds treed a big boar. Next drop over a half mile and treed a double. A big boar was taken. Last drop the hounds struck quick and treed at 200 yds. We squalled it out 3 times and John & Reb got fired up. Just what they needed.

Went over and hunted with Eddie Green tonight. Getting struck was tough. First drop over 1.25 miles and no strike. Next drop 250 yds to strike ran a track for a couple minutes & Luke got a slick tree. Abby & Bonnie helped out. We sent on where they searched the area and Luke treed again 100 yds away. I could tell he was winding before we arrived at the tree no cook seen. Next drop they went .62 miles & treed a double. Last deal after working and struggling on a track Bonnie split off a short distance and treed a coon. Luke & Abby covered. The three littermates are pretty nice young hounds but tonight they struggled.

Steve was over to watch the fb game. I just about threw up listening to the broadcasters blow on how Alabama was taking over the game in the first quarter. Sure enjoyed the entire thrashing given by the underdogs.
We headed out to hunt about 1030. Maggie got treed by herself on the first turnout on a den tree. Luke was 300 yds away working a bad track. We sent Maggie away from Luke down a tree row. She blew up treed at 420 yds. Steve thought it was slick. I caught Luke crossing the road. Next drop they struck a good track, ran it 150 yds and treed a coon. Next drop Roscoe exercised speed beef, Maggie come in, Luke went his own way .73 & treed a big cotton wood den. Next drop They struck at 350 ran a good track 200 yds and treed a coon. Next drop about the same deal. Similar deal on the next drop. Treeing coon quick & often. Last drop we sent Maggie alone. She goes in 250 yds works around for 5 minutes with out opening and falls treed at 370 yds. Dang the bad luck, she missed it by 20 feet. Coon was in a big nest 15 foot up. She may have winded it and just missed treed. Either way she didnt get it. Good hunt & sure glad bama got kicked.

Scott Cole was up to hunt. Scott has Sadie, a mate to Bonnie & Luke. Figured we may as well just hunt the mates. Sadie hunted a lot with Luke last winter. First drop barked in a dose pile but didn't stay. Went on through the section. Next two drops over a mile and no strike. Bonnie put on in an old barn on the next drop. They went .67 and treed a coon. Next drop over a half to strike. It was a good track ran it 300 yds and caught a big boar. 20+ pounds and the hounds got a little scratched up. Next drop 1.11 miles not a bark. Luke split off from the gyps on a bad track went 250 yds and treed a coon. Last drop struck and treed a coon at 175 yds. Coon didnt seem to be moving early.

Dusty & Tim was over for a hunt. Dusty had his young dog, Ruger & Tim had Kate & John. I took Luke & Reb. Coon treeing early tough like last night. The hounds went through good section on the first turnout. Kate opened a few times on a cold track. Next drop over a half mile and not a bark. Next deal we had spotted a coon across a big pit. Luke had winded it so we cut loose. Kate open a few times and treed 100 yds from that coon but had one. Next drop .58 with a coon. We jumped it out where the pups grabbed it and it got up anouther tree. They treed good on that tree. Next drop over a half mile and put one in a hole. Next drop struck at 200 yds, moved it a short distance and treed a coon. Last drop they struck at .6 and treed at just short of a mile. Had two up that tree.

Duane Swofford was up for a hunt. Duane had Boomer & I took Luke & Bonnie. Boomer got treed first on the first dump .75 miles. They were across water so I just dropped it down on them and called them across. Next drop .62 and Boomer split from my two. Both had their coon. Next drop not a bark covered about a mile. Boomer split from my two on the next drop. Luke and Bonnie followed the creek to the road and I loaded them. Boomer went the other direction on the creek and treed a coon. Bonnie got treed quick on the next drop on a coon. The coon jumped out ran in some thick cover for 300 yds, then over a half mile to a hole. I sure thought they would catch it but didn't. Last drop Boomer split off and come out to the road after a half mile circle. Luke and Bonnie went through the section and struck in a standing corn field. They ran hard for thirty minutes before putting it in an old house.

It was raining Friday & Saturday night so I set in the recliner. I met Steve for a hunt tonight. The first turnout Roscoe exercised speedbeef. Luke got treed with a coon after going 3/4 mile. Bonnie & Maggie went to him. Next drop they went over a half and didn't strike. We cut them off before getting on flood water. Next drop Luke & Bonnie got treed over a mile with a coon. Maggie had went her own way with Roscoe but covered. We sent on from there. Luke & Bonnie went left & Maggie right. Luke treed a big boar 950 yds in. Next drop Roscoe fired up on speedbeef. I ask him to quit and he did. Luke & Roscoe went in .77, Maggie & Bonnie come back to where we had sent from. They crossed the road, worked a coon 250 yds and treed it. Last drop they went 600 yds to strike. Luke split off from the others went 150 yds and treed a coon. The others covered in short order. There wasn't much wind, cloud cover with light snow falling. Coon seemed to be moving pretty good.

Sounds like you're having some good hunts. Have you found a replacement for Irene yet? I haven't hunted much this winter. Had a nice pup but I sold her. Tried buying her back but the guy wasn't having that. But I was able to buy half interest back on her. I'm not much on partnerships but I think this one will work out ok. She just turned 9 months old & has treed 6 coon by herself. She may never get any better but as of now we sure like her. Have to get together and go b4 season closes. Maybe you can talk cory and his 2 sons into going and I'll come down and tag along. Take care & happy hunting.

Asking if I've found a replacement for Irene is like asking if Cindy has a replacement. Cory hasn't been up to hunt. I would enjoy getting together for a hunt. Dont expect a hunt like we had with Cindy, Bo, Flo & Irene. Those hounds could get treed in a heartbeat or run one and catch it. I like the Irene pups but there just started.

Tim brought Kate & John to hunt. I took Luke & Reb. First drop a 1000 yd circle in a 40 acre patch of woods, didnt strike. Next drop Kate goes west on a track and Luke crosses the road and goes east. Luke trees in a hole at the bottom of a big oak. Kate takes a track 350 yds & trees a coon. John opened some on the ground and treed some. Next drop Kate gets treed 470 yds west, Luke trees 240 yds east, both had coon. Next drop they work a track over 400 yrs and tree a big oak with a big nest. Don't know how often you tree coon that are in nest but it happens hear some. Last night we had one that you could see a little of and it hung up after shooting it. Next drop they struck quick, moved the track good for 540 yds and treed a coon. Last drop treed a big den tree at .75 miles. The two pups go all the way on every turn out. They open a little on good tracks and treeing a little. Neither are tearing the woods up but get fired up if they don't get turnt loose.

I hope Mr Combs forgives me for cancelling our hunt. I had forgot that I had told Jerry Crain we would go hunting Tuesday night. Jerry took Rambler & Remi. I took Luke & Bonnie. We sent Luke & Remi as the A team & Bonnie & Rambler as the B team. A team strikes at 120 yds trees a double at 375 yds. B team strikes deep goes almost a mile and the track blows up. They go 3/4 mile into the next section and trees slick. We sent on Bonnie goes 30 yds and trees the coon. A team strikes at 190 yds tress at 480 yds with a double. B team strikes close goes just past 800 yds and trees a coon. A team strikes deep and gets treed at 1.1 miles with a coon. B team strikes close trees a slick tree close. Sent on anouther slick at 140 yds. Sent Bonnie alone on the way home. She goes in 139yds and blows up treed with a coon. Sure enjoyed the hunt except when the B team blew through the country on their first turn out.

Hunted with Steve Wednesday night. Hounds traveled over two miles on the first turnout. Luke & Reb got treed at 1.2 miles from where we sent from. Maggie had went right of them and crossed into other woods. I could tell Luke had caught one before getting to him. First time for everything, he had a Beaver bayed in a small stream. I did ask him not to ever do it again, he agreed it would be best not to mess with anouther one. Next drop .7 miles and treed a coon. Next drop over a mile no coon, Roscoe did an outstanding job running a deer. Next drop they struck close and put it in a doser pile. Two walks over a mile each, in muddy fields was all the old men wanted. May give hounds away and take up golfing if I have a few more hunts like this one.
Scott Cole was over tonight. He brought Sadie a mate to Luke and Bonnie. The gyps split off from Luke 2x and treed coon. They ran one 1.8 miles to a pond drain pipe. It was all in the same section. All three treed two different coon. Bonnie got to herself and treed a coon. Five trees with coon, a pipe with a coon and two hard runners, good hunt. The past week I've ran some coon that wanted to test track speed of the hounds.

Hunting 3 hours here Friday night without a bark I went to west Tennessee last night for a hunt with Terry Hilliard and his 10 year old daughter Morgan. She had ace and Terry had angel and I had Kid. First cut their two went right 400 and treed and Kid went left 600 and treed. Went to theirs and they had coon then to kid and he had his. Next cut bout the same but dens for both. Next cut kid trees one deep then next turn they split deep again in swamp both with coon. Morgan made every step and led a dog through that swamp. One tuff little girl that loves hunting.

Sounds like you need to get a hunting cabin in west Tennessee. I enjoy the children going and having a good time.
Last night a short hunt, light rain then the winter blast hit. Two den trees is all that happened. Luke was left at home. He must of hit a fence the night before. Has a couple gashes in his chest. He's a sorry looking hound, a little beat up with swollen places and scars on his head. I believe his career as a show dog is over.

Last night Scott brought Sadie up & I took Luke & Bonnie. Late January and bright moon will test your hounds. The hounds had to get deep to strike and tracks weren't good. We did manage to tree two trees with coon.

Next drop half mile to a road no bark. Next drop strike at 110 yds come back to 54 yds treed a coon. Next drop 740 yds treed coon. Last drop over a mile to strike & treed a coon. It was around 25 deg with very little wind, seemed pretty nice out.

Scott brought Sadie up to hunt. I took Luke & Bonnie. First drop they went a half mile & took a wrong turn out to the road. We sent them back where they split treed 20 feet apart. Pukey Luke had the meat Tim Stone. Tim has given Luke a nickname. Next drop they went 3/4 mile north, then headed east over a mile, traveled 2.3 miles and no strike. Next drop .62 to strike worked over 500 yds and had trouble locating the coon. Luke found the right tree after a few minutes. The coon was curled up in the first fork. Next drop right at a mile and no strike. Next drop they struck close and treed a coon quick. Last drop the gyps opened a few times around 650 yds. Not sure if they finished that track or took it on. We drove around the section and they were treed at 400 yds on #4. It was 24 degrees and a light dusting of snow. A slight breeze made it a little chilly.

Chad Spencer & Matt Merrill was up for a hunt. They had Moe & Sam, littermates from Flo. I took Luke & Bonnie. First drop Sam & Moe gets .75 & put one in a hole, Luke didnt make the trip. Next drop 150 yds all four tree a coon. Next drop over a mile, no strike. Next drop they strike around 400 yds, work a track a couple hundred yards to a hole. Coon may have slipped out, they trail away from there a hundred yards & tree a coon. Next drop .62 and tree a coon. They strike close run a good track 650 yds to a brush pile. Next drop open few times & tree a coon at 730 yds. Next drop 50 yds and blow up treed, Moe looked real good with a coon. Last drop Sam, Moe & Bonnie strike at .6. Luke was a couple 100 yds left of them but joined before getting treed at .81. Six trees with coon in late January, no slick trees seemed pretty decent. The moon was getting up so we called it a good hunt & headed in. Chad seemed to like the coon treeing in Kansas.
