This weather is so warm. I believe every coonhunter in Mo area will be in the woods tonight. I will see what I can get done. Might take all three.

Maggie shows first drop of blood today

Back end is starting to swell some. Just my luck there is a RQE in Kirkville next month and I doubt she will be ready to take to it. Looks like I will take one of the boys if the weather is decent.

Hunted Maggie alone tonight. I figured it will be her last go around for 30 days.
First track she opened on decent then the coon got in the river.
Second track she struck about 300 yard pushed the coon hard and slammed a tree. Going into the tree she came out with her tail tucked the went back in but she had the coon. Maybe I accidently hit the shock button who knows.
Next track she stuck in at 700 yard pushed it hard she got treed right and had a huge boar coon. When I shot it with the shotgun it fell right on top of Maggie about 25 feet up it scared the heck out of her and she didn't know whether to run away or stay and fight because of the pain. Well I petted her up real good and talked to her she still had her tail between her legs. So I cut her loose she didn't go far at first then she made a 500 yard circle came back toward me and just treed and had another huge boar coon. I tied her back off the tree this time and let her go in and kill it.
What I have noticed with she runs a coon open and trees she trees with a triple bawl like yodel and chop when she trees a layup she rolls right into a steady chop.
Maggie had a good last night. Now she will be put up. I will take the boys being that she is coming in heat.

Sum up my season

Well most of the season Maggie got the work and and did the work alone and in company. I think she is ready for competition season. I'd like to see her split more but other than that she seems to be quick on both ends.

Sounder did a excellent job this year when taken. I think he only treed one den tree the rest there was fur in the tree.

Magic did a excellent job himself. He really looked good on the layup coons. and cold feed tracks. The dog shined this winter.
He could use a little more track speed on the old feed tracks but other than that he had the meat on the limb.

The two males only showed me coon all winter long. No possum, no skunk, no deer, no coyote. Just coons. Just the way I like it.

Sounder is 4 going on 5 and Magic is 7 and I need to get some pups on the ground out of good females because I know they will help the blues in getting coons treed, They will split and hold or tree with others.

Hope everyone's season went as planned

Feb. Will be a slow time but weather looks promising for a few hunts anyway. Our season is over and all dogs got plenty of fur Now back to petting them up real good and leading them to the truck. I will hunt the boys this month with Maggie being in heat.

Hunted last night

Hank had Slug and Kelly Phil Vogel had RJ and I had Sounder.
We had good hot long driving tracks but none on the outside.
First track we had a split tree. Sounder and Kelly had den and Slug and RJ on a slick Hackberry,
Second dump hot driving track down the ditch and creek all dogs treed on a den.
Next dump coon crossed the road. We sent Kelly in alone but she didn't get much done. After much debate we decided to turn the others loose on it. The drove the track good but mr coon did something on the hill side and dogs settled but wasn't right and there was no coon seen. I had enough for the night so we all headed home.
Nothing treed real hard but I did manage a video or two of the den tree I will post at some point. All dogs treed better before we got to the tree. RJ is a nice treedog and sounded good.
We will live to tree a few more coons another night. The dogs all had good loud mouths and even at 950 yards they sounded like they were 200 yards away at times.

Well can't get video to download in Photo bucket so if I can get it up then we shall see. They are not treed as hard maybe because it was a den tree I took video of but at least you get a idea. I will work on it tonight.
Rainy weather and MU Tiger basketball is on tap for tonight. Maybe we can win a road game. Mississippi is home this Saturday so the house will be rockin.

These boys are killing me with the road game lost. Not sure what we need to do at this point during season. The second half of the season is not going to get any better. Maybe I should stick to just hunting my dogs.

Hunted

Took Magic to let him stretch his legs out a little. Earl Howell had a new Leopord cur he was trying out.
Sent the dogs in and didn't hear a peep. Magic was 1.4 mile away so we drove around heard them running track and Magic treed.
We drove as close as we could but of course they were on posted land so lights off and away we went walking in the dark. I hate that. Got to the tree and shined very little but I couldn't find anything quickly so lights off and back out of the woods. I am not sure if he had him or not. I'd say the way he was treed no but no shine time. Called it a night.

This should be our road win but the way we have played on the raod it is up in the air. Needless to say I will be in front of the TV instead of turning a hound loose tonight.
Thursday ole Mo has date so dogs will sit a few more night.

Mu Tiger lost again and I should have hunted my dog at least 3 times before a hunt. He went once so he stays home. I want to go to win not just to hunt. There will be more in the future. Beside Maggie is out of heat this weekend so woods time will start Sunday!

Turned loose tonight

Hunted Maggie and Chris hunted a nite ch walker female
First dump Maggie struck in at .2 miles the walker female at point .9 Maggie trees and so does the female. Coon seen
Next turn Maggie struck then walker name Minnie but Maggie came in and Minnie treed she had a possum so being that Maggie opened on it she got a reminder of what not to do and not be at or around a tree with a possum and she was done for the night. Minnie was running but Maggie didn't leave my side when we got close to Minnie treeing Maggie was gone she went straight to the truck so I see now she can't take getting in trouble at all. The walker was treed slick we called it a night.

I hope Maggie got over her training trauma. I just don't want to go to any hunt and feel like she might be a part of a possum or some off game when I'm trying to make it to he world hunt and also finish her to Grand Nite this Spring. I'll have to turn her loose and see if she will go. Right now I think she thinks everything is a possum and would rather not go anywhere. Maybe she forgot next time I turn her loose I will know. Sounder has never treed one and Magic treed two in 7 years so I think my training works wonders but time will tell.
