I checked out your thread, those are some nice looking hounds !!! If i remember right Ranger 4 was pretty light to, Gary Uchtman was showing me a bunch of pictures one day at his house and he has had some pretty light blueticks in the past to !!!

Whiteys

My first whitey was a double Smokey River Diamond Jim Female that also went back to Mad Dog Smokie and Southern Blue Pride with a little Arkie blood also. She was the first real tree dog I owned.

Her Son:

His Grandfather (Diamond Jim x Hammer III)lived past 14.

Both Heather and Hickory are pretty light but they had my ears hurting as I was tieing them by the tree the other night. If you would have heard them treeing you would not have cared if they were purple.

I have never minded the color of a Blue Dog. But if they are not a coon dog they just don't stay around here long. Some of the Uncle pen pups when bred close up to Scout were real light but alot made coon dogs.
Pen and Scout bred female:

Pen had a female that was out of Holly (Albert x full sister to Rambo II) and she was as dark as they came. She made nite ch and was bred to Son and their daughter was first on Sat. Night at the Roundup last year.

I can honestly say I don' t care about color. I do plan on breeding Heather and Hickory at some point and the may be light but I don't care.

Color really don"t matter to me either like you said if there coon dogs that's what really matters ! All I'm am saying is that maybe its just me but it seems that the lighter colored ones seem to make a better than average coon dog but sure on the other hand there are plenty of them that are culls to! LOL

Color

Maybe it is that the lighter ones have lined up back in the pedigree on the coon dogs that were kept and bred for ability and not looks?
I hear guys ask about were the light color comes from in any of the lines and it comes up in most of the prominent blue lines that are out today.
Logan and Cami had a pup with a Blue eye and I have no idea where it came but he was Heavy Uchtman bred and it looks to me like he is making a coon dog. Obviously it lined up somewhere back in the pedigee and he was a throw back to the old line. To me nothing is as exciting as that when you are breeding dogs and are hoping to get the good traits from the old dogs in the line and something comes out like that unexpected.

That"s a Very Good Theory that you stated above on the lighter colored ones as the old timers were more into a dogs ability in the timber than just color alone !!!

I own the blue eye male pup out of Logan and Cami Scott is talking about. He is one of the finest young dogs I have ever owned. I really don't care what the dog looks like as long as it can tree a coon. That is my logic.

In the end as you said, being able to run and tree coon is the main logic ! LOL

A couple

I had with a good nites hunt. My brother and brother in law are shown with the dogs. The smaller female was out of Hawk. The male was Blue Lightning II. Both were top bearhounds also.

Looks like you got you some real good coon hounds there !

LOU caught these coon

Two Coon Lou caught On 19 degree night
Lou is 14 months old and is owned my Herbie Hicks. She just won second place in a night hunt with 425 plus on two coon and treed these two nice coon on a cold night. With Maggie having pups right now Herbie calls her his pup trainer. She is for real at 14 months old. Cut her and get her off the tree. We are going to hook her and Ruger someday. Lou is out of Zeb and Herbie's Sky female. Herbie Sky female is a real coon dog that through great pups with whom ever she is bred too. She goes back to old blood that Herbie Dad, Herbie,and I owned. The Hoss dog is out of Sky also and a male out of my old Amous dog called Horn. Amous was out of Albert. So you can see old Sky throughs tree dogs that are not hard to look at. Hoss is owned by my Stepson and Me. Dave P.S. I didn't say it but everyone knows Ruger is out of JOBE.

I couldn't help but put this picture of Blue up in the tree on here. I have no clue how he got in that spot it is about 8ft up to that fork. Blue is out of Logan and Cami and is turning out to be probably the best hound I have ever owned.
