Hey, Jay. Remember that night we took Frito and Fargo to 4H campground. We walked into the woods shortly after sunset, and the sun was coming up when we walked back out. The truck sat in the same spot all night.

Lots of coons in that woods. We never sat down the whole night. We had Bell too, and maybe Charlie, I think. Cut the dogs back somewhere by the camp, and then hunted the river almost all the way to Mr. Smug.

Hot tracks, cold tracks, we did it all with coons hung in the trees by coondogs.

Then I drove all the way home after a hour's sleep -maybe.

What a night!!!!!

That's right. ..seemed like we never pulled two dogs off the same tree either. ..we wil have to hit that again this year. ...

Yes that was fun. Didn't get covered in poison ivy, and the ole water-dog didn't swim across the river and tree on the other side. Priceless.

We definitely need to hit that this spring. . Did you take Any pictures that night ?

I absolutly love this dog.....I have been running walker hounds for almost 30 years..I have been coonhunting for 34 years... Frito is as good as the best I have seen ...this dog is all HEART!!!! anybody that doubts this claim needs to see him go... SUPER CONSISTENT!!!! Big screaming mouth, that sounds like a freight train. awesome locate, hard classy tree dog that has his coons...most every time.. very rare for him to miss... he is super fast at his business. flat out, balls to the walls how ever you want to describe it.......I don't own a hair on this dog but I sure wish I did....Jay...
....ps.beings he isn't my dog I thought it was fine if I bragged on him... Lol

Thanks, Jay. Frito got the win against some tough competition in a "sudden-death" late round hunt.

He's not been in a hunt since last year, and he was ready for this one. When I got him into the line for the late round hunt, he rose up on his hind legs and pawed the air like a stallion. He was fresh and ready to go after completing a two hour early round. Oh boy, I thought.

We cut both dogs and they were gone quick down the edge of an immature cornfield. At 55 seconds, I put Frito first on the card. Ever the coon behavior specialist, Frito didn't run the cornfield edge and instead turned and ran downhill away from the field into the thick, nasty stuff along an oxbow. The track sounded super good and he drove it with authority back in our direction with those big long, death sounding bawls rolling up to us and then echoing back across the oxbow.

The other dog struck deeper toward the river, and she sounded like she had a good track which added to the excitement of the sudden-death format. At this point, Frito had the coon jumped and you could tell by his sound it was time to climb or die for the coon. He was only about 150 feet from the cast when he rose up on a tree and declared with two big, long dying bawls that echoed down the oxbow and across the valley, an exciting end to the hunt.

I got down and crawled in under the tree and found him treed on a willow-box elder snarl of big trunks. I looked up and could see nothing but leaves, moved over and still could see nothing but leaves. I didn't think there was an actual top to the mass of trees but decided to move out and have a look. It would have been an easy circle tree. I should have been happy but it was Frito on this tree and you look until you find his coon. I moved away and found the big willow extended out the top of the tangled mess and there in the very top, as plan as can be, sat a big ole coon.

I see this exciting kind of hunting whenever I take Frito to the woods. I rarely talk about it anymore because I'm usually hunting alone and can see things however I wish them to be. But in this late round hunt he had a whole cast of witnesses which made it all the more fun to talk about.

I here ole Charlie racked up another win to grand nite last night.. way to go Rick and Charlie.. he is on a role.... he has won several casts in a row I think...
... tomorrow I am headed for the turtle mountain wilds to hunt with Frito and Charlie.. should be a big time.. hopefully my pot lockers will not embarrass me...

I had know idea I owned such a jam up good moose hound.. Lol that big bull looked like a Percheron draft horse with horns busting out of that timber with ole Oil Can Sam on his tail... that could have been real hairy. Lol I have said ole sam would go down in history one way or the other.. well I think he just did cause we will remember that forever.. Lol thanks again Rick
