im sure anyone who has been around coonhunting and the hunts long enough already can figure out that winning the world hunt wont solve any breeding problems. As well anyone who has fellowed how the blueticks have done at the world hunt can figure out that with a couple of lucky breaks there would already have been bluetick world ch,s.

jmo most lines of blues have such diversity that u could get whatever traits you need for improvement in a cross weather you stay within the same line or if you cross multipul lines.
i feel breeding for improved traits is more important than breeding for bloodlines. dont get me wrong i feel bloodlines are very important just not most important.

My definition of success is not limited to just the world hunt. Considering all factors-past and present-and all our various lines-I am saying we as a breed can all benefit from dedication to building stronger more closely bred SELECTED individuals capable of the type of performance and reproductive likeness we profess to desire. These types of individuals will earn their wins and make their own brakes and these accomplishments will not be based entirely on what transpires at the World Hunt. My goal is perfection! I would prefer to breed it. If not and I can own it by buying it, I will do that. I have been fortunate to have owned a couple of Blueticks that could and did beat World Champions in head to head competition. They did it by being Bluetick Coonhounds--not acting, sounding or doing anything like a Walker either. (I despise seconded handed attempts at compliments from Walker folks saying-that's the best Blue dog I ever hunted with.)

Thanks for the well wishes. After a week in the hospital it is good to be back. They took out my gall bladder and are treating me again for the other. I certainly had plenty of time to think about things during that week. I missed Flora and the BBCHA meeting. I have tried to get back in touch with all of you who called and I am mailing the membership cards out to the good folks that joined-thank you! Lots of dog related things going on and I have about 6 weeks before I'm back to full speed. Good luck to all of you and thanks again.

Wow!!! A lot of info here. Thanks for posting this piece of history. I enjoy reading these old times as well as the new. I am just a young man with a dream of doing my part of bettering the breed. My opinion on the world champ is I think we especially my generation need to enter more of the larger scale hunts and push/promote our blueticks better. Granted I can't and don't make all of the big hunts but the ones I do make I see very few blueticks entered. Being from South Carolina, we like most other states are predominantly surrounded by walkers so it's more difficult to win these hunts when we are entering 10 blueticks against 100 walkers. The odds are against us. I say breed better dogs whether that means sticking to a particular line or outcrossing to other lines and put the best dog we can in the hunts and let's even the odds out more. EVERYONE WANTS A WORLD CHAMPION EXCEPT ME, I WANT 5 WORLD CHAMPS. GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HUNTING.

Thanks Todd, glad you enjoy all this old stuff. I enjoyed your phone call and I look forward to taking a hunt with you and your hound. If you make that Christmas trip to Midland just let me know and we can hit the woods then.

Yes sir without a doubt we will be cuttin loose soon. A lot of these post bring back old memories of when I use to really follow the bluetick breed. I remember the RC AND Jenny dogs being really nice back then.

I met Todd while at Orangeburg, SC and a few others that I had heard about and/or seen their names on this message board. Appreciate all of you who have contributed pictures and comments. Ken Herman has posted so many old pictures on Face Book, I am going to try to get him to share some of them with us on here. Once again I encourage each of you with older pictures of hounds and Bluetick hunters to share them with us. Thanks again and I hope 2016 turns out to be a great year for you and your hounds.
