Zig and Iron Man

Hi,

Left the house about 10 pm Sunday night. Cold, but clear. Moon had been up about an hour. Went to an old familiar bottom with picked corn , creek, and a big woods. Cut father and son loose. Zig struck in there about a quarter of a mile with his big, straight bawl mouth. He had run that track about another quarter when Iron Man opened and the race picked up. They treed on the creek. Zig with his big, short bawls and Iron Man with his machine gun chop. That coon got slippery feet. Iron Man has treed all 4 times I have taken him with Zig and then my females. He treed the first night out. He is a natural. I took Iron Man home petted him and praised him. Let him think about the experience and end his hunt on a pleasant note. Grabbed a sandwich and headed back out with Zig. Traveled over towards Amish country. About 2am, I cut Zig down a branch in about 1500 acres of picked corn and soybeans. Zig struck in the branch about 300 yards in and the race was on. He crossed the dirt road and treed up that branch in the biggest cottonwood tree I have ever seen in this country. It was probably 8 feet at the base in diameter. It was hotel city. I went back to the truck and got my camera. Meandered back to Zig at the tree and took pics. I love to hear him treed. I will try to get them on here. I am terrible about getting pics. Sat there at the tree and praised old Zig and reflected on all the great times I have had the privilege of cutting this old hound loose. He is consistent and he is a coondog. We ambled back to the truck stopping several times to pat him on his head and just smile. Contentment.

Hi,

I love little "Spottie". I hated to sell her, but Jason lives fairly close to Whiner. It was best for the breeding program. Those pups should be like the first cross between Trap and Lipper. I have Whiner's littermate here, Janie. She can tree those coons faster than you can get your light on. Their littermate sister won the Kansas State Hunt this past year.

Robert, I have been to John Monroe for 50 years, lived 20 miles from him, hunted with all the Finley River hounds he studded. Joe was always my favorite. Their is a young hound in Mo. that you might consider for an out cross. Insane Frosted Train.

I have been hearing about a male dog out of Teddy. Teddy is a grandson of Zoom ,as is Zig.

Is this the male dog out of Teddy?

I have also heard about a female out of Teddy that is turning heads. Any info?

Hi,

I have a young dog out of Starke's Finley River Ramblin Jane that is in Louisiana. Terry Perkins is supposed to be bringing him up for awhile so I can breed a couple of Rambler females.

His name is Finley River Red. Call Terry Perkins 985-237-5769 and ask him anything you want about this dog. Terry says he is a very fast track dog with a big mouth. He is also a hard tree dog.

Boys, Jane is producing pups that are turning the crank.

Sunday night

Hi,

Left early Sunday night with Zig and Iron Man. Went to hunt the Salt River at the confluence of the Mississippi. In the big wooded bottom. Was trying to beat the snow and frigid temps. Turned loose and ran one into a hole on the banks of the Salt. While Zig ran this track, Iron Man was drifting down through the woods with his head in the air, checking several trees. He is going to be a good layup dog when he figures it out.

Zig crossed the river and started a track down behind us. The wind had picked up to about 35-40 mph according to the phone internet weather. I wish I could have got to him before he crossed.

He ran that track like he always does, drifting, opening here and there until he was gone.

Walked back to the truck and drove up on top of the bluffs. Froze my rear off with Billy and Joe Resor listening for Zig. I heard Zig over the wind once or twice, but couldn't locate him. Drove down a side road that dead-ended at a gate below the bluffs back on the other side of the river. Got out and heard Ziggy fighting a coon in the distance. When we got there, Zig was treed on a den tree and his nose was cut in several places and a bloody mess. That coon must have been a tough customer. I would have liked to have seen how big that coon was. Petted Zig and led him to the truck.

This cross isn't going to happen soon enough, these pups are going to be old school, loaded with Finley River and just the right amount of Lipper ...not to mention all of the Rolling hills dogs....pups like this just don't come along every day...Glad I'm lucky enough to be apart of it.

Special hounds, like Driver, never get replaced. You just try to fill the hole. I am glad you got a litter of pups from him this past year.

Just had to get out!

With Driver passing and everything going on, I just had to get out...8 inches of snow on the ground and a warm front coming thru should be a decent night. Well who do I take? I think I'll take spot and see how she does in all this snow...

1st Drop ~ We turn spot loose and my buddy's 4yr old male out of (big name stud dog)..spot leaves like a bullet,50yrds in they both strike not a very good track ,my buddy's dog slams a tree right away, spot she now working the track out to about 500 yards...to make a long story short spot and my buddy's dog work this track for over an hr all over this mountain side and down in the creek bottom...My buddy's dog stopping to tree about 6 different times while OL'Spot just keeps working that Old Track..Finally they both are now treed and it's my turn to finally walk to my dog treed!! I was getting tired of walking to only my buddy's dogs trees, that was running the same coon spot was running! Hahaha Smiles....Well the coon was there and OL' Spot got some much needed fur in her mouth! These are the coon that you definitely want to knock out to your young dogs...Good Job Spot!

2nd Drop ~ We turned loose in a half picked corn field along side a creek, 3/4's the way across the corn field Both dogs Strike and the race is on, Man they are smokin this track, out of the corn field down into the creek bottom, OL'Spot is just screaming useing that ungodly high pitched screaming Bawl of hers, 200 then 300yrds and finally which took a total of about 10sec it seemed like. At about 450 yards all the hair curdling screams stopped and the woods was filled with a never ending roar... Both dogs was there and..Not very long after we got to the tree I could here one of my buddy's hollering I GOT IT, I GOT THE COON...Good girl,Good job spot...

It's funny before the night started I felt so stressed and heavy ... It's amazing what a couple hrs in the woods with your Buddy's and your young dog can do, I don't feel stressed and the weight is lifted...God Bless and Good Hunting To All!!!!!
