Went across the river tonight to see my old Canadian friends Calvin and Scott Oulds. Had a nice hunt and saw that the boys have a pair of littermate females that are flat out coondogs. They put Trueboy in his place a couple of times. Calvin's gyp Fancy will flat out get deep and treed. Scott's gyp Lexie is nice female that can tree. Both females had great mouths and were on the wood tree dogs. Look forward to crossing the Blue Water Bridge a few more times in the coming months to hunt with those nice gyps. And with the owners of course!

Getting ready to go in tomorrow for another heart cath. Was heading for hunt tonight. Had Trueboy and Maggie loaded up ready to go, but was rained out by a nasty bout of rain. I wanted one last hunt before the knife, but it'll wait. Pups are looking good. Need to sell more... anytime would do.

Had my heart cath a week ago. The found a 30% blockage in my right coronary artery, but my cardiologist decided to not put a stent in it at that time. Not sure if I like that decision, but I'm just the fodder on the surgical table.

Got out with Trueboy, Maggie, and Cam's Rena female. First track was a triple split track in the corn field, going east, south, then breaking up into separate tracks. Trueboy took his back north then west across the road and into the farmer's barn 130 rods from where the dogs split up. Rena messed around and ended up going west across the road into the neighbors 80 acres of corn. Maggie finally gave up and came into the truck, but she did a nice job and even located up a couple trees, but they were easy to see dead ash blanks. So I'm glad she didn't tree on them. Trueboy left the barn and come back to us.

We then took Maggie and Trueboy across the road and turned them into the corn behind the barn. Maggie and Trueboy struck hard and fast. We then went up the barn bridge and shined a sow and kitten up in the old mow that Trueboy drove up. Rena was south of use 650 yards, then suddenly went east ignoring Trueboy and Maggie driving a track through the soys and into the corn field to the south where Rena last was.

Next thing I know, Rena was 160 rods east of us treed as Trueboy and Maggie treed 40 rods south of us along the road. Maggie was milling as we drove up and I caught her up. There was no place to tie her, so my friend Jeff held her as I dropped the coon out to Trueboy. We messed with Maggie on the coon a bit, then drove back to see what Rena had. That Walker gyp left her tree (which I've never seen her do) and I finally drove up to her in the corn field and gathered her up. I saw the coon sitting up across the wheat stubble where I'm sure she treed, but she was 150 yards from the woods in the corn when I caught her up.

For a young gyp that was not supposed to be much started, Maggie did a nice job tonight, especially on that track with Trueboy. She is loud! As loud as ol' True. She did tree well until we drove up to here. She needs work on the tree, but my understanding from Ormiston was she wasn't really treeing yet. She was tonight. Of all the nights to have my camera and I forgot to take pictures or video of the hounds tonight. Try it again tomorrow for sure!

Got Cam out with me tonight. We ran Rena, Trueboy, and Maggie. First drop at the Sportmen's Club was a smoking hot track that Trueboy caught on the ground. Rena and Maggie help him finish it off. Maggie got bit, but held up well. They left the catch and went down into Cherry Creek with Rena limbing one out while Trueboy took a track out of the creek bottom and into the corn before giving a little me too and treeing with Rena.

Second drop was a long chase for 45 minutes by Trueboy and Maggie as Rena busted off to the west and split treed. Trueboy and Maggie must have been in a litter of coon as they went to the nearby barn driving tracks to the barn twice only to come back out and catch more tracks in the corn. Trueboy finally treed as noted below in the photo the treed was bent over from all the grape vines in its top.

It took a while for Maggie to give up and come out of the corn - 50 minutes to be exact - but if she comes to tree better and stay treed better, she has the making of a nice young gyp to add to my kennel.

Got out last night with Cam's Rena walker, Trueboy, and Maggie. First drop ended up with Rena going off by herself and treeing, with Trueboy and Maggie running in the corn. Maggie must have overran the track, as Trueboy turned right across the corn rows and split treed about 100 feet from Rena. Both were standing in 3-5" of water. I didn't find the coon in either tree.

I then cut all 3 across the road into the corn. Rena went out of the corn and cut northeast across the wheat stubble to small woods that 4 years ago was clean and easy hunting, but now with all the dead Ash trees it's become a thick nightmare. Trueboy and Maggie went all the way around the corn and up a fence row west to the road. I cut them off and caught up Trueboy.

Maggie had turned back toward Rena, so I cut Trueboy back in. I was able to take another lane back into where they where trying to run tracks and tree, but it was so thick I never would have been able to get to them if they did tree. Luckily, I was able to get within 20 yards of all of them in the hay field and one by one was able to call them in and catch them.

I then took Rena and Maggie back to Cam's house and turned Trueboy loose on his own. He struck an old feed track and took up a ditch bank to the west, before it turned back toward the road. I saw a coon sitting up 5 mintues before Trueboy slide under the tree. That ended my night.

The Gang of Seven is breaking up tonight. The first pup leaves tonight for Mississippi. Tomorrow 3 males are leaving the house. The little buggers grew on me too much over the past 68 days since their birth. Here's some video for me to remember them... and yes, I am sad to see them go.

Crow hadn't been out in nearly 47 weeks. Through 2 heat cycles, a bout of heart worms, and a litter of 11 pups since she last treed a coon. She went 510 yards from the tailgate and had the coon. I was able to drive up the lane to her and you can see my taillights in the pictures. If I would've backed up 10 feet, the coon would've landed on the dog box which Trueboy was sitting in.

Second tree of the night. Trueboy hit a track coming out of a cornfield, tapped one tree hard before moving on and tapping another that he finally settled on. Saw coon in both trees, the one he tapped and the one he set up. Let them both for now. Went to the south end of the woods into another cornfield and cut Crow loose. She ended up coming through the same area Trueboy treed in, but she didn't strike. I think she smelled Trueboy and me and didn't cover us since we had already been there. She lit out the north end into the corn and went straight through it. I picked her up on the road 1000 yards from were I turned her. She should've cut into the woods from the south quicker instead of running the west edge to the hedge stones. Oh well, she did well on her first one.

Trueboy talking to me on his first tree. I dropped him one more time, but he ended up in a thick mess of downed elm and ash trees full of dozer jams. Got him out of it without having to get into it myself. Sometimes he does listen to me...

Crow struck in the corn at about 100 yards from the tailgate, trailed through some water in the bush, and treed a coon about 200 yards from the truck. Big sow came tumbling down... Went across the road and turned Trueboy loose. He came out of the corn and ran back down the lane, across the road and went into the woods were his mother had just treed. He then come out of there and back to me like his ass was on fire. I had drove back to where I was when I let Crow out the first drop. I then went back and turned both loose and they went in like fire and hit a track, ran it hot and then shut up. They circle the corn and come back to the truck. I sent them across the lane into the woods. Trueboy made a short circle and came back to me. I sent him back into the corn and he again hit a hot track but after a short run, he came back to me. Crow stayed in the woods and hunted it out real well, then she went north and I caught her up coming out of a corn field to the road. Very strange. But I came home and Trueboy has been whining over Molly, so maybe she's coming in season and that's screwing him up... happened before. Crow looked fair and Trueboy looked like a moron tonight.

Wow, not getting out enough to hunt this fall at all. Went last night for a couple drops with Crow and Maggie. Hit a corn field early before it was full dark. Crow went through the head lands and another 200 yards of plowed ground to a big woods. She treed 650 yards from the tailgate. While walking to her, I heard Maggie bayed up in a ditch near a tile main. I started to head to her, but she broke off and went into Crow. Small Oak tree. Did not find the coon, but as early as it was, Crow might have treed a squirrel, which she's done before as that's what she was started on as a pup. Here's a photo:

And another:

I walked back to the truck and turned both gyps loose in the woods north of the corn field, across the drainage ditch. Crow went deep and hunted out the woods all the way to the north end. Maggie started hitting a tree about 160 yards away from me. Crow was over 300 yards at the other end of the woods. Crow worked her way back on the east side and came back to Maggie. Once Crow treed, Maggie stopped and went to milling. Need to work on that, but then again, Maggie's never fought, had a coon knock out to here, or worked on a caged coon. So I'll need to work on her. Good mouth though. It was a den tree Maple and I again did not find a coon. Here's some more picture of Crow:

Good hunting too all!

First drop of the night. Crow and Maggie turned into the woods under a 2/3 full moon. They worked west and then north. Maggie went out the north end of the woods and hit the cut corn field all the way to Downington Road. I cut her off at Mater's feed lot, but she slipped me and headed west. I drove out and cut her off on the lane way back to the old Kenny woods, but she came with in 100 yards of me and went south. I backed out to the road, but the Garmin said she was 440 yards south of me already. Crow was treed back to the east 1/2 mile. I figure Maggie would go south into the old Nichol timber, but she took off like a bat out of hell to Crow. I hit the gas and by the time I got back to Crow, Maggie was on the wood with her. Below is the video. It was the first time Maggie held a tree until I got there. She did it well. Had a great night. Maggie bump a couple deer, but ran like hell on 2 tracks, the first ended in a culvert that I had to be quick and pull her out of as she was crawling into it. The second track I thought she'd tree it by herself, but when she was driving it back south, she made a lose, and ended up going into Crow. She didn't tree with Crow, but Crow was slick. Maggie keep going the the blow down 40 foot from Crow and tapping it. I finally looked up the Maple tree where the blow down was lodged and found a coon. Maggie deserved it. We treed 3 and put one in a culvert.

Well the 15 coon I gave to Cam to sell didn't bring much. He had 23 total and only got less then $90.00 for the bunch. There were some very nice coon in the pile, but his normal buyer tapped out from buying coon this year, and my buyer is doing the same after taking a hit on coon last year, so it is what it is. Now we can just run hounds if this winter weather breaks. Deer hunting is on now and several of my hound friends have gotten their deer. Nice job boys and girls! Trueboy is getting restless as hell as he hasn't been to the woods in a couple of months. Might have to leave Crow home and turn Trueboy and Maggie loose in the coming weeks if the weather cooperates. Heavy snow north and on the west side of the state. Across the river my boys in Ontario have seen a bunch of lake effect off the Huron in recent days. Take care and get'em treed with a good blue hound!

Got out tonight. I singled out Trueboy and Crow. Trueboy ran a feed track out of a slough and up a small ridge. He had it solid. It lodge up the tree on me. I turned Crow loose and she ended up back where Trueboy had already ran and ended up crossed up a bit, so I went in and leased her up. Trueboy was then turned into another woods a few miles south. He trail a nice track into a den. I saw some coons poking there faces out of the dens tonight. Had 2 good runs with one on the outside. Trueboy has not been hunted since before Labor Day, and he looked sharp. Crow, not so much for some reason.

Going to pick up Storm Raven tomorrow. She's a pup from last year's cross of Cam's Topper male x my Stormcrow gyp. I should've kept her and sold Arran, but now I'll have two I don't need (I'm laughing here). My wife will kill me. But I'd rather have her back then somewhere she's not wanted, so I'll get her back. She's a nice pup. Arran is more independent, and stubborn, then Raven was as a pup, but I hope both will be good hounds when I'm ready to start them this spring. Still waiting for Maggie to come into heat and Trueboy is ready to bred her when she does. Crow is doing well and has made a house dog and loving it.

Arran is heading to a new home in Oklahoma later this week. I sending her to Guy Ormiston, who should do well with her.

Went hunting last night for some chicken killing coon. Trueboy struck quick by the den tree and treed about 150 away with the meat. It was a small wooodlot, and I didn't have any other coon look at me, so we called it a night. Fast and sweet and Trueboy with the meat!
