I got this last night. Take a few minutes and call Governor Culver and urge him to sign this into law.

Iowa Legislature Passes “Shall Issue” Right-to-Carry Legislation!
On Monday, March 29, the House of Representatives passed Senate File 2379 by a vote of 81 to 15 and it will now head to Governor Chet Culver (D) for his consideration. SF2379 had previously passed in the Senate by a vote of 44 to 4. This bill is a huge victory for gun owners in the Hawkeye State and reinforces the legislature’s intent to treat the provisions of the Second Amendment as rights, not state-granted privileges.

This NRA-backed bill would change Iowa from a "May-Issue" state to a "Shall-Issue" state. This legislation would require sheriffs to issue a permit to carry weapons to all applicants, unless they are subject to certain specific disqualifiers. This pro-gun legislation would:

Increase the term of a permit from one year to five years;
Narrow the disqualifying circumstances for a permit to the federal minimum in most cases, while further narrowing state-specific disqualifiers;
Prevent the issuing officer from placing limits on or restricting the scope of a carry permit;
Ensure that denials, suspensions, and revocations of permits would be subject to both administrative and judicial review;
Grant recognition to all valid out-of-state permits;
Broaden the types of training that would fulfill the state-mandated training requirement for permit applicants;
Provide a means for persons who are prohibited from owning firearms under broad mental health-related disqualifiers and who do not pose a public safety risk to regain their rights;
Limit the information that can be required of a permit applicant and prevent the application process from being used as a de-facto firearm registration scheme; and
Until the new system goes into effect on January 1, 2011, you will still be able to obtain a one year permit under the old system.

Just reply with some of your own thoughts, besides you are all on here reading anyhow. Any ideas on how to get the word out to the non hunters about hsus, would be greatly appriciated. So start posting.

the post started out on fire but seems to have been put on the back burner. this issue can't be on the back burner! thats why they have the foot hold they do now. hsus needs to be faced head on and its going to take everyone.

Facebook is a marvelous thing. On Friday I posted a note describing a Thursday night incident that an Ohio pork producer told me about. So far, more than 45,000 people have read that Facebook post, and I can only imagine how many of them have taken some action already.

Here's the story: On the evening of Thursday, March 25, a group of Ohio farmers were on Southwest Airlines flight 556 from Baltimore-Washington International airport back home to Columbus, OH. And their friendly, perky Southwest flight attendant "Madilyn" took advantage of her captive audience to ad-lib an ad for the Humane Society of the United States's planned Ohio ballot initiative over the aircraft's PA system.

The following is how Duane, one of those farmers, described the show in his letter to Southwest. I'm reprinting it with his permission, and leaving out the flight attendant's last name. (You can put down the torches and pitchforks. I'm not telling.)

I operate a small family farm with my wife and help from my oldest son who we are trying to work into the operation full time over the next 4 to 5 years. We farm about 1000 acres of grain crops and raise about 7,500 head of hogs between the two of us. This may sound like a lot but it is small in today's standards.

I am also a Board Member of the Ohio Pork Producers Council. This organization has been using your Airline for many years because of your good service and affordable prices. Today I along with two other Family Farmers and a Representative of [DELETED] Feeds were returning from a Legislative Conference in Washington DC with our Ohio Representatives and Senators. We were on Flight 556 from BWI to Columbus, Ohio and I was seated in row 14, window seat, co-pilot side of the plane.

Upon touchdown at Columbus the head stewardess Madilyn [DELETED] welcomed us to her home town of Columbus "where there are great people and an important ballot initiative on the ballot, and please go to OhioHumane.org to get more information." This organization is trying to put my family farm out of business. This group is funded by the Humane Society of the United States which is a vegan animal rights group that raises money by getting people to think they are part of your local Humane Society that takes care of local dogs and cats ...

I never thought that I would be on the receiving end of a political statement being given to that many people ... and not have an opportunity to at least defend myself ...

Just ask Yellow Tail Wine and Pilot Service Stations just how divisive of an issue this is for a large Corporation to be found with any kind of association with HSUS or one of its affiliates.
I would like to have contact with Madilyn [DELETED] for this to be a teachable moment, I am quite sure that a visit to my farm and an opportunity for me to present my side of the story will, if not change her mind, at least enlighten her view. I did not speak with her but I know that the two farmers sitting in the front of the plane did. I just got her name. She was shaken and apologetic to [DELETED]. The flight was already an hour behind and there were a lot more people waiting to get off the plane, so I did not want to press the issue there.

In closing I feel very strongly that those type of comments should not be voiced in that type of environment. You just never know who you might offend.

Microsoft Funds the Anti-Hunting Movement

(Columbus) – Microsoft has rejected a U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance request to abandon its partnership with the nation’s leading anti-hunting organization.

Microsoft, the software giant, will make a $100,000 donation to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and is partnering with the group on a pilot program called the i’m Initiative. Through the new program, whenever a Windows Live Messenger user has a conversation using i’m, Microsoft will give a portion of the program’s advertising revenue to one of ten organizations selected by the user. The HSUS is one of the choices, and there is no limit to the amount of money that can be donated.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, the nation’s leading sportsmen’s advocacy organization, has urged Microsoft to end its support of HSUS, but the company refused. According to Microsoft representative Tara Kriese, Microsoft believes the i’m Initiative is “a great way to enable people to help causes that are important to them.”

“Microsoft is going to pour hundreds of thousands of dollars, probably more, into an organization that recently issued a manifesto that targets hunting for extinction,” said USSA President Bud Pidgeon. “If there was ever a time for sportsmen to take grassroots action, this is it.”

The Humane Society of the United States opposes all animal use, including trapping, hunting and fishing. It was a key player in the campaigns to outlaw dove hunting in Michigan, trapping in California, and black bear hunting in Colorado. The organization has created a hit list of hunting traditions that it hopes to dismantle, including bear hunting and hunting with hounds.

“The HSUS already has a multi-million dollar budget that it invests in legislative and ballot campaigns to ban trapping and hunting,” said Pidgeon. “The partnership that it has formed with Microsoft, the maker of the Xbox, will allow the organization to make money hand over fist, and continue to fund efforts to ban outdoor sports.”

Sportsmen can make a difference in an issue like this. Companies such as Iams, General Mills, Accor Hotels, Pet Safe, Sears, and Ace Hardware ended relationships with HSUS after thousands of sportsmen levied strong protest.

In 2002, Jeep raised the ire of sportsmen when it aired a blatantly, anti-hunting commercial called the “Deer Hunter.” After a flood of sportsmen’s contacts, Jeep pulled the commercial in three days.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is a national association of sportsmen and sportsmen’s organization that protects the rights of hunters, anglers and trappers in the courts, legislatures, at the ballot, in Congress and through public education programs. Wisconsin animal owners take note.

Subject: [petlaw] Wisconsin Bills AB793/SB580 Removing ownership rights to animals

2 wicked bills in Wisconsin right now. If passed it will remove ownership rights to animals, with a seizure bond requirement. Dog breeders will have NO RIGHTS in Wisconsin if either of these pass.
AB 793 did pass out of committee. The Senate Bill 580 will have a public hearing within days.

Dog breeders rolled over & played with the devil, supporting the Wisconsin Breeder licensing law last year. It becomes effective June 2011. The illegal seizure and bond requirement was removed from that breeder bill in an effort to get support from the hobby/show/small breeders. Many AKC clubs voted yes to support the Wisconsin Breeder licensing law.

The illegal seizure & bond requirement bills are back & will affect all dog owners, all animal owners. It doesn't matter if you only have 2 or 3 animals. One complaint, the humane officers can steal your dogs, force you to pay for their care in advance, until you go to court. It could take 6 months to get a court date. You'll be paying $10 and up, per day per animal. If you don't post a bond in 5 days, your animals will be considered abandoned. The rescue's & shelters will make off with them to places unknown. If you are found innocent, your case thrown out, you will still have lost your animals. The DCHS (Dane County Humane Society) & the HSUS are directly responsible for this bill being written.

Breeders and animal owners in Wisconsin need to write to their legislators NOW.

Please cross-post this to some breed lists. Maybe some Wisconsin breeders will notice. Last year I was the only breeder in the whole state of Wisconsin who went down to Madison & spoke against the Breeder licensing bill. Everyone else was for it. The shelters, the rescue's, the hunting dog people, the sportsmen dog people, the DFOW representing dog owners & AKC clubs. There were only a couple AKC clubs & a handful of breeders that could see the danger in letting the camel into the tent.

The advisory board for making rules for the breeders is composed primarily of the animals rights activists who got the breeder licensing and inspection law to pass. Those breeders selling more than 24 puppies in a year, don't have a prayer in hell.
Now ALL dog breeders, ALL animal owners, will be affected by this illegal seizure bill. Your rights will be completely GONE if is passes.

Please write your representatives & tell them what you think. Write the committee members if you can figure out who they are.

Everytime a donation is made to HSUS and affiliated groups through their television ads and magazine submissions, the right to have pets and to raise farm animals is being erroded.

With an income of over $152 million annually, is the IRS being cheated out of a substantial amount of revenue?
Those of us with animals support the boycotting of any entity supporting or donating to HSUS and its affiliates.

Come on everyone, join in on this and tell us what you think, we all need to join together to fight this. Any information you know of ad it to this site so we all know about it. And then we all can help fight it the best we can.

Also the HSUS has a comercial on the NFL Network channel and on animal planet. My kids were watching the animal planet channel. And they see this brain washing commercial. I hope everyone will try and e-mail the net works and let them no we do not agree with this crap being on our TV and we want it off the air.

If anyone knows how to contact the net works let us know so we can get it done.

It has been suggested by one of our strong legislators that its of utmost importance that we also inundate the Natural Resource Commission with our objections to closing dog training and field trialing areas for Coyote and Fox hounds. We must make an ongoing effort to get as many of our sporting friends, dog owners, and any friend or family member to contact both the governor and the NRC as possible. The contact info for the NRC is;

Email, don't call the Natural Resource Commission. They are not setup to take phone calls. Please be as specific as possible in your request.
