I am curious, because short of seeing your adds on here and in the bluebooks, I have never heard of your dogs, or anybodyhunting them, It may be a geological thing, me being in MS, and you way over there on the east coast, anyway, I am looking into adding something into my line, and am trying to do a little research before I do, thanks in advance for your reply.

You never saw many Nite Ch's or Grands with the name "Vaughn" in front of them either. That would be the last thing I worried about when checking out dogs.

This female came from Charles Lindsey as a pup. She was a good looking hard treeing female. I crossed her on my Henry III and Blue VII dogs. She is the dam of Blue VIII.. Sorry that I don't have any pictures. She was real dark and had good confirmation....

KenBev, on the females pedigree the Roberts dogs, Ben roberts and the richardsons lived not to far from me. Hard pleasure hunters that kept nice hounds. The Bitsey female from heck and fly was nice cross. Cottonwoods flys bottom side was Vaughns Bluejack I believe.

I don't think that GRNITECH or NITCH makes a coonhound anymore of a coonhound. I bought a gyp off of Ken last June and I have to say that she is doing very well. I'm very pleased with her and she's just shy of a year old. By the way Ken I think she is definitely coming into heat at this time (I'm sure you remember my last phone call).

Anyhow, my gyp comes from cross between Blue VIII and Star. Neither of these hounds are titled (at least not on my gyp's pedigree). But my gyp is coming along very well. She has some awesome tracking and trailing ability... but she still needs some work on staying at the tree - but she will do it. Of course we all know that this takes time, practice and patience.

But when it comes to titles, I don't think it really matters. Either a coonhound has it, or it doesn't. And no paper is going to make a real difference as to what a hound can do out in the woods. I don't know what I think about nite hunts. I bought Bailey to mainly pleasure hunt with her, but I know that if I ever decided to put her in the hunts later that she would do well based upon the good signs she is showing me now. By the way she already has 50 points towards her CH degree... and she's only been in two shows.

But I'm not here to brag. I'm not starting anything either. I guess what I'm trying to say Mulebarn is that I don't think one can go wrong if breeding into Ken's stock - title or not. I did research on Ken before I bought my gyp, and I found out that he is a very experienced breeder that knows what is going on. He is also a very honest man as well! Eventually I plan on breeding this gyp once she's older, and when I do I know that I could go back to Ken - that's is if he'll have me . But I'm not concerned whether or not a stud has tiles, or if the litter is perfomanced... I'm concerned if the cross is going to be good, and ultimately if the pair has the coonhound sense that we all look for - title or not!

That's just my friendly opinion... and I'm trying to keep it enjoyable!

Mark

Wow, Mash, that was a mouthful.

You are right, titles do not make coondogs, but people from out of state can use titles as forms of measuring sticks, because for a hound to have a title, in most cases, it means he can compete against other hounds and win, I know in some cases handlers have a big hand in it.

Like you I have some no-name pleasure dogs that I feel are pretty salty, and I am looking for something to outcross with cause my breedings are getting pretty tight, and my stock is about all vaughn bred stock, I started with dogs that I bought from elbert vaughn, and linebred them, then outcrossed on skinners rattler, which wasnt really an outcross, just a litle different vaughn blood than I had, I crossed three different females on him, then the only real outcross was tc jones blue jay dog. My breedings are getting too tight again, and I am looking for an outcross with comon ancestry, if ya know what I mean.

My pleasure dogs can win in competition, and have won in several, but I am not gonna blow on them or brag, they are just dogs.

That being said I am looking for something a little "extra", and dogs like you described your female, are nice, and Im sure she will make a great treedog eventually, but that is not the kind of dog that I am looking for, dogs that have been given a fair chance and arent sticking the tree good at a year of age, just dont have that something special for me, again not saying that there is anything wrong with her, just saying that I demand a little more from a hound, Its not average dogs Im looking for. I can consistently produce a few pups every year that I am proud of , and I am looking for a stud that throws a few goduns a year off different females, that is why I was asking about titles, that takes the hearsay out of the equation.

So again I ask, what HEAVY vaughn bred dogs are out there that are throwing some winners??

Right, but the name Vaughn meant just about as much as a title.

Its kinda like the pot calling the kettle black, you saying youre not worried about titles, then advertising two titled dogs in your signature line.

Mule breath I wasn't going to stoop to your level cause this is a nice thread for friends , but I for one am tired of you running your mouth so load up the best you got and come on down I will be glad to show you what a dog is Yes I have a titled hound in my signature also but will tell you I don't put a lick of stock in titles other than the HTX .By the way the one in mine and Texhogs signature all go back to heavy Vaughn and no we are not advertising them they are all 3 passed away one is the father to the other 2 full brothers different litters. So get off the young boy and his young hound and come see what is out there. I would tell ya but you would just want to argue about it get a life and go hunting instead of getting on here and hunting an arguement.

The Vaughn name carried alot of weight. You made my point for me, I hunt the hunts, titlede the 2 dogs on my signature line myself and I am the first to tell ya, dont go by the titles, ask around. Talk to people that have hunted (more than once) WITH THE DOG IN QUESTION. You can find out all you need to know. Titles do look good on paper though and it is a starting point.

I

prefer to win my trophies in January and February while carrying a .22 .... Not in July with bugs, snakes and poison ivy... That is why I have the dog that I have and may be bringing one of Ken's gyps in soon.. I have had several from Ken in the past. He nor his breeding need my endorsement, they stand on their own merritt for close to 35 years. Same goes for cousin Roy !!! NUFF SAID !! Now lets all get back to the bussiness at hand and talk BLUE DOG TALK !!!! YAHOO !!!!!!!!!!!

Well......

I wasnt trying to direct anything at you, Kenbev, I was asking if you had any winners out of your hounds, because I hadnt heard of any, and I havent heard of any of your hounds being scattered out across the country.

Since you decline to answer my question, I will venture to say that there are none from your stock. I dont think any less of them for it, but a simple no would have worked fine instead of calling in your little "followers".

Does anybody out there have a HEAVY Vaughn bred dog, or know of one that is WINNING or throwing some WINNERS??

P.M. me if you do, so these puppy sellers on here wont get all huffy anymore about ruining their thread.

I`ll make that my last post on your precious thread, now all of yall can get back in the circle.

You want to know of some vaughn blooded winners how about
Ron and Larry Honecutt in Myrtle Missouri you better have your ducks in a row when you go to hunt with them besides that they have had plenty of titled dogs and their stock came from Jess Rodgers Does the name Rodgers little mack ring a bell how about Rodgers Bowser, Preacher who died at Johnny Watsons house, all titled dogs. Dont crack on Vaughn blood their is still some good dogs out there besides that if you are leading a blue dog around he/she has vaughn blood in it.

I just advertised and sold a litter of 11. Where were you then? They are 3 months old now. I could probably get my hands on one of the males if you want one but I got a feeling you are not serious..

I just want to say that there are a lot of Vaughn blooded dogs that can win hunts but I beleive that most are owned by coon hunters and not title hunters
Thanks to all who are trying to preserve this line so it will be here for future generations of hound followers regardless of what they hunt.
