Made a short round last night. I cut Blueduck and Janey out off the end of the Onion road. Janey sturck about 100 yards in, and Blueduck put in and started helping her. It was a cold bad track, that went of into a pine thicket. I'm guessing the coons are starting to hit the blackberrys now. They were moving the track southwest toward the property line, but it never heated up. They had treed 150 yards in the thicket, by the time we got around to the west property line. The first 50 yards wasn't bad, then I hit a wall of briars. I made it to within 30 yards of the tree, just where I could see it, but couldn't get him to look. The dogs were too hot and just about barked out and I was in just as bad shape, so I called them in and made my way back to the Ranger. It was after 9:00 so I called it a night, and headed home.

Had another good hunt last night. I sent Blueduck in off the Steel Bridge road, toward Wall Bayou. 135 yards in, he just fell treed. So I headed in to him. He was treed in a really thick spot, and I was having trouble making it the last 30 yards. When I was about 15 yards from him, he stopped treeing, and left out of there screaming, burning up a track. There was no trees over 15 feet tall there, so I'm guessing the coon jumped out. After a long race, he treed on a huge Pin Oak deep on the east side of Wall Bayou. I had Janey and my 6 month old pup Lou with me, and wanted to get both of them on a hot track, so I headed to one of my feeders. When I pulled up, Ole Sam was sitting on top of it, so I turned around and when to the next one. The tire was wet and muddy. I turned Lou out but she couldn't move it away from the tire. Dropped Janey and it didn't take long before she had him tree 50 yards from the feeder. Two trees, two sets of eyes. It was close to midnight when I got in bed, sure makes it hard to get up at 5:00 am.

Last night I made three trees, and saw zero eyes. Two of the three I feel were slick, but the last one had a coon I feel sure. I turned Blueduck out,and he stayed gone a long time before stricking a cold bad track. After 20 mins or some he located one time, then talked himself into treeing, but I couldn't find any eyes. Janey made two trees alone, with the first one being slick. She was just treeing in a thicket with slaplings. But the last tree she did right. She took a hot track off a feeder and ran him a couple hundred yards. She treed in a huge Pin Oak that went up into a 75 foot Pine. I searched and searched, but never could get him to look.

So you wont to buy a Polaris Ranger

You may want to take this in to consideration. I bought my 2013 Ranger 900 XP in 2014. It was a great hunting vehicle for the first year, but after about 1700 miles, the trouble started. In the last 2-2.5 years I have been working on this thing constantly. I have replaced two axels, one front hub housing, all four wheel bearings, twice, and needing to replace them again, front rotor, caliper, and brake pads, and all the bushings on the A arms, rebuild the primary and secondary clutch and replaced the drive belt. That’s the easy stuff that I have fixed. Then it stopped shifting, because water got into the gear selector, which only has an o ring as a seal. The bearing in the steering gear box went out, so I had to replace the complete rack-n-pinion steering. And now, the bearings and seals in the main gearcase; the ones where the axels plug into are shot. Shadinc has volunteered to work on this for me, which has turned out to be a very tough job. Looks like the motor will have to be pulled to pull the main gearcase. These side by sides may be good if you don’t put them in the water and mud, but don’t believe what you see on youtube, because they just can’t take it. Looks like every time I work on it, it cost $300.00 or more for parts, but this time it will be considerably more. If I can figure out how to post pictures I’ll post some of what it’s looking like now.

Ch. Nite Ch. 'PR' Gayle's Grays Creek Blueduck HTX

Rhett hunted Blueduck for me Friday night in Watson, La, Walker sectional. He won first place and was high scoring dog, which made him Nite Champion. I'm very proud of this young dog, and he is just a plasure to hunt.

Haven't been hunting because I got back from Colorado Elk hunt on sept 20th with a hurting knee. I figured it would get better with a little rest, but thats not the case. It just keeps getting worest, so today I go to an orthopedic doctor. With the weather cooling off some, I got to get this thing fixed. I was really wanting to make it to the Fall Roundup, but it's noway I can follow a hound through the woods. Hoping for a good report today.

Well I’ll tell you Steve, that doctor’s appointment was a waste of my time. The doctor never evening touched my knee. He wanted to send me to physical therapy, which I refused. Then gave me an injection in my knee, which AINT NEVER HAPPENING AGAIN, then told me to come back in 6 weeks. I could have used that 50 dollar bill (co-pay) to start a fire and been better off.

Uchtman's Blue Jobe X Clara (out of Uchtman's Thorn

Back in Dec. 2016, we had Clara surgical inseminated to Jobe, and didn’t get any pups. Six months later, I carried her back up to Gary’s and left her there for a month. She never did come in heat, so we wasn’t able to accomplice it again. After running back up to pick her up again, Gary let us bring Ole Jobe home with us to try and make this last chance effort to make this cross. Well last week Clara was ready once again, but Jobe just wasn’t quite able to seal the deal, so we took them both to Clinton Animal Hospital in Clinton, La. and had her AI, twice. A lot of effort has been spent to make this cross, and we are hoping for the best.

I would like to thank Gary Uchtman for working with us to make this cross.

Last night I cut Blueduck and Janey off the Steel Bridge Road. They hit a bad track and was having a hard time moving it. After a couple hundred yards Blueduck located a time or two, and get down a try to move on but, kept coming back to the same tree. Janey hit the tree and helped talk into treeing. I knew before I went into them, that the tree was slick. When I got in there, I found them on a small Maple, which was slick as I thought. I also realized that I forgot my leads at the truck. I told them both to “Come Behind”, and they fall in behind me and we made our way back to the ranger. Next drop, I sent Blueduck and Lou, my puppy off the end of a dead end road. They took off and after 300 yards Lou fall behind, and finally made her way back to me. At 500 Blueduck struck another bad track and trailed back toward me. At 250 he just couldn’t move it anymore, and talked himself into treeing again, which I know was slick again. I bumped him on 4 but that didn’t do anything, so I turned the collar up to 5. That got his attention, but he started back to me. When he was 100 yards I hollered at him to “Get Ahead” . He spun around and headed off in the opposite direction. At 300 he opened a couple times, then fall treed, and treed right. I found him on a big Pin Oak, and this time I had two eyes looking down at me. I pet him up good, and told him to “Come Behind” and we called it a night.

First Nite Ch win.

I’m hunting up in Yazoo City this year, so I brought Blueduck up with me this weekend. The Jerry Clower Coonhunters was holding a UKC Nite Hunt. It was very dry, not the best of conditions, but we managed to look at 3 coon, and Blueduck came away with his first Nite Champion win.

Went back to the Ms Delta this past weekend, and didn’t even bring my bow. This was a weekend of coon and squirrel hunting. Donald made the trip with me. We had Blueduck, my puppy Lou, and Donald’s female Casey (Case X Clara). We had planned to single them out and give Casey some time alone; we made five trees and looked at 2 coons. Got to bed at 2:00am, and back up at 5:00 to squirrel hunt with my cousin Todd Jackson. Todd has some of the best squirrel dogs in the country, and has won the State Champion Ships all over the South to prove it (Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and Georgia). After a really good mornings hunt, we headed back to the camp to nap, and get ready for a night of coonhunting. Just at dark, we could see lighten in the distance, all around us. On the way to the woods a few drops of rain was hitting the windshield, but by the time we got to the first spot, the lighten had stop. We made 6 trees and looked at 3 coons. Donald’s young female, Casey was sitting under every one of them. Couldn’t find a coon in any of Blueducks trees. Casey really put on a show up there in the Delta. She is going to be tough.

Sad way to start the day.

Bad news this morning! When I got in my truck to leave for work, Blueduck came running up the driveway. Checked the pen, and found a hole in the gate and, Lou, my puppy was gone. Put Blueduck back in the pen and started looking for Lou. I found her dead on the side of the road down near my daddy’s house. I guess it’s a good thing I moved Janey to Rhett’s house last week because she was in heat, or she may has gotten hit also. I checked Blueduck good and he appears to be fine. But man this is rough, just thinking what she could have been. : (

Blueduck Puppies

63 days ago, Claude Smith bread a female to Blueduck. Yesterday she had 11-14 puppies, not sure of the number just yet. This was a nephew X aunt cross. This is the first pups off Blueduck, and we are hoping for good results. Since my Lou pup was killed, and I have room, I will pick one out and put my time into him/her. I can't speak for Claude on price, but we have discussed putting these pups in the hands of hunters that will give them an honest chance to become a coondog. If anyone is interested, please contact me.

2017 BBCHA Sectional

Bayou Coonhunter in Watson, Louisiana had our annual BBCHA sectional Saturday night. This was our last hunt of the year, and we draw names to give away a Dog Box, Boss Light, and a TT5 collar. Chris Hall’s name was pulled first for the Dog Box, Jimmy Dale Brooks, was pulled for the Light, and the TT5 Collar when to Sleepy Darren Williams. Congratulations to all of our winners, and thanks for your support to our club. A free all you can eat Pastalaya was served. Looked like everyone enjoyed it, but I aint going to brag on it, beings I was the cook.
Rhett pulled Ole Case out the pen to help with a Grand Nite Champion cast, and proved that Ole Case still has what it takes to win. Case was overall high scoring dog and BBCHA King of hunt with 475.
Joseph Cotton from Shreveport female won Queen Of Hunt with 362.5.
Blueduck was the only Nite Champion to enter the hunt but didn’t take advantage of this opportunity to add another Nite ch win. He made 3 trees but we could find a single coon. However he did win King Of Show.
Janey also won Queen Of Show.

Rhett with Case

Rhett and I with Blueduck

Rhett and I with Janey

Rhett, and Joseph with the King and Queen
