220 problem

I have had my unit for two years not a problem. I have two DC 40 Collars. The problem is it just started giving me wrong direction and distances from where the dogs are actually are. For example my dog was by my side on a leash it said he was 763 yards away. I have updated the unit and collars. Any ideas? Also cleaned antenna connections.

Bad 320 ?

Bear hunter friend has a new 320/T5 that is consistently losing his T5 & DC 50 & 40 collars
To get them back, we have had to delete the collar list & add dog again
New 320 will not accept other collars & first thought collars needed software update but that does not help
Actually tried to add 12 different collars & only 4 was successful
Collars will go to dog list & both 320 & collars have GPS signal but will not track, just the ? question mark
I'm thinking this new 320 needs replaced

Bruce, I am trying to update my Alpha from 3.8 to 4.1 and it says "there is not enough disk space on Alpha, please free up some space and try again."
How do I free up space?

Lights on the Garmin Collars.

If you have a Garmin collar that has the white lights and you want a different color. It is easy to accomplish.

Take the housing loose and with a magic marker color the clear plastic light lens on the inside. Test different magic markers to achieve the color you want.

NOTE be very careful taking it apart. You don't need to take any wires loose, just get enough room to mark over the lens.
I am sure if you damage the collar taking it apart Garmin will not warranty it. SO again use CAUTION.

Many have seen this already but it is worth talking about the 4.0 update.

My Garmin ALPHA has worked flawlessly until I did the 4.0 update. It then started shutting down. Garmin now has the 4.1 update out and with installed my Garmin ALPHA is working fine again.

If you have any problems with your ALPHA shutting down I suggest this update. If you have the 4.1 update and are still having problems we need to hear about it. Together we can work out the bugs.

I try and read all the post on the Garmin products and I am not one to jump in a post and try to correct what has been said unless it is really off base and could cause someone to loose their dogs if they follow the advice given.
I will say I have read several things and talked to several people that are off base with their beliefs. If you read something on here and have a question or want to learn more about it. Just GOOGLE your question. Do some basic learning about your system and what the VHF signal does and what the Satellite Signal does. Learn what WAAS, GONASS really do and what they effect.

Why is it important. Every Garmin handheld at the option of turning WAAS on or leaving off. Learn what it is along with other options and if you should have them on.

The new 4.1 upgrade says it installs List Sync--Anyone figure out what that is yet.

alpha 100 problem

wether on the map page or birdseye, once I go beyond 25 yards on the zoom in and out,I loose the track on these screens. Once it gets to 40 yards, track disappears! Take the card out and use topo map only, same thing happens!! Never seen this before. I did notice my buddies alpha when you go to the map page show his alpha as having the birdseyes subscription where mine show it as a birdseye demo. Birdseye is working and showing like it should, just track of hound goes away after you zoom out to 40 yards. Anyone have a fix for this!!

well gentleman I thought I had a solution to the alpha shutting down, but mine shutoff 3 times tonight. I guess I will go round and round with garmin again.

Bruce I need some help. What can you do to a Astro 320 that won't turn on?

Posted by on 10-10-2014 11:56 AM:

.

Hook it up to either a power cable to your truck or usn cable to your computer. Then turn it on. It should be ok after that

Posted by SCOTT ROBINSON on 10-10-2014 05:07 PM:

talked to garmin today about the replacement unit they sent me and told them how it has the same problem as my original alpha had and they want to keep sending me another unit but im afraid it will be defective as the other 2 ive had. they say they get no call's on the issue of the alpha just shutting down for no reason, I don't believe that, but if it is true then I think they need to hear from everyone that is having this trouble then maybe we will see some results. this like talking to a POLITICIAN!!!!!

Garmin has a new update out (version 4.2) This should stop the shutdown problem.

Posted by Danny Glista on 10-11-2014 01:40 PM:

Bruce

Do you have your alpha's updated to 4.2 if so any problems. I finally got my new unit and it's working fine, little leary about updating it at this time!! Mine is at 4.1

Don't be leary. Danny if you update it and it shuts down here is something that is needed to help solve the problem.

Download the ALPHA system.xml file and attach it to an email and send to coondog123@aol.com

From that file you can seen when it shutdown. Error codes associated with the shutdown, software vernon and some other information that can be used to solve the problem.

Please see that I requested to download the xml. file. DON"T REMOVE IT.

Posted by SCOTT ROBINSON on 10-11-2014 04:40 PM:

I have updated my alpha to the 4.2 and so far no problems according to a garmin engineer this should fix the problem
I sent my system .xml file to garmin and the problem was with the 4.1 software.

Posted by SCOTT ROBINSON on 10-14-2014 05:34 AM:

the 4.2 update didn't work my unit shut down 5 times tonight within a 4 hour hunt I have sent my system xml file to garmin I hope they figure this out
