9-6-12 hunt
Took Bash out by himself tonight. He didn't do too bad tonight. Made a den tree, found a possum sitting up 20 yrds from him, he didn't tree like normal, so had me wondering on that one. Next drop, ran in the beans for awhile. Got close so, I grab him and we moved on. Next drop, short and sweet treed with the meat. All in all it could have been better, but we ended it on a good note. He is a young dog and work in progress.

8 month old male. Has not been messed with much, but has been worked with a couple times on a caged coon and taken out during the day to the woods. UKC Performance paid pup. (Harpeth River Blue Jack X Briner's Blue Balie. Balie is doubled up Coats Bawl Creek Lucy. 8 months old $500. This pup is in Alabama.
3 -1/2 month old female. The litter owner has been working her with the net and scent and I am told she is doing well. It is my preference that she goes to a competition hunter that hunts UKC and PKC. She will be paid up UKC Performance and PKC Super Staked. She will be a Spring SS pup. I was hoping to have her going for the Spring SS hunt in April 2013 for the"Baby Stakes" hunt. (Hardware x Maggie) $450. This pup is here in Illinois.
Harpeth River Blue Jack and Hardware are brothers.
Balie shows Smokey River Chief in her 3 gen. and doubled up on Coats Bawl creek Lucy, Lucy is the mother to 2 top current reproducing females.
Maggie is out of Iron Will and Will is a brother to Jet 7.

9-17-12 hunt
I decided to take Bash out for a spin last night by himself. Bash is 14 months old and is out of Harpeth River Blue Jack X Anderson Fox Creek Penny. Bash has been doing a pretty good job for me considering, I haven't been able to put consistent hunt time on him. However, last night he turned the intensity level up. He has been treeing coons on his own since he was 7 months old. First drop, Bash falls treed at 100 yds in my "honey hole". It's a big tree that I have treed many coon in before. I didn't find the coon, but I didn't shine that long either, I felt like he had. Second drop, cut him loose next to a corn field and a wide tree line. Garmin showed him traveling back up the road from were I drove in from. He had stuck in the box on back that direction. Bash is very good about striking out of the box and accurate about it. Anyway he is 240 yds and falls treed. I drive down the road were he is just 30 yds off the road. I once again don't shine the tree very long because of a house close by with a barking yard dog, I snap a picture and we head out. Third drop, cut him loose and he doubles back quick and is on the creek bank checking the tree he treed in last week. I see nothing is going to come of it, so I send him on his way again. He gets in at just under 300 yds and trees. I get to him, tree is hard shine with lots of vines. We lead out and load up. I was going call it a night but decided to turn loose one more time. Fourth drop, I see Bash check a big tree just in front of me on the fence row. Bash then hits a track in the corn next to this tree. He takes the track in a short loop in the corn and brings it back in short order right to the tree he had originally checked. The tree is a big ole oak den. We had a good hunt. Below are some pictures of last nights hunt.

Had a couple guys from NY come down for a hunt last night. My friend Mike Fleek hunted with us also. Turns out one of the guys from NY had met Mike before at the 2005 ACHA World Hunt when Mike won the World Hunt handling John Bishop's Hound(Bishop's Blue Grover). These guys were fun to hunt with. We had a good time laughing, talking and yes we did listen to the hounds too. I invited them back anytime to hunt. One of the best pleasure hunts I have had meeting hunters for the first time. Hounds could have looked better, but we did tree some coon. I look forward to meeting and hunting with them again. I wish them the best with their hound.

9-24-12 hunt
I took Bash out by himself again last night. Bash is coming 15 months old. He has been doing well and have been enjoying taking him to the woods. I made 5 drops last night with him. First drop, Bash opens at 450 yds and trees quickly. I head into him. Bash is treed on a leaning tree next to the creek bank. The tree leans out over the water and stretches nearly to the other side. I see right away he has the coon. We lead out to the truck. Second drop, Bash strikes in about 120 yds in on the creek, then trees. Bash is treeing on a under cut bank that has a lot of exposed roots. I get him on the lead and we head for spot #3. Third drop, Bash gets struck next to were I cut him loose. He hits up on large fallen tree, he gets the track moving away from there. Bash takes the track on in towards the center of the woods then falls treed on the edge of the woods a couple hundred yds on deeper. I get to the tree it is a large red oak den. I still shine the tree over the best I can, but all I can find is holes. Fourth drop, I pull the truck off the side of the road and drop the right front end of my truck off into a big hole. Luckily I was easing in there and didn't hit real hard or I would have tore the front end out. Had to use 4 wheel drive to back out of it. I get Bash out and cut him down the edge of the timber and standing corn. It's not long and he has found a track in the creek bottom timber. Bash comes treed and I head in to him. It's another den with one whole side hollowed out. I was going to go home but decided on one more turn out on my way home. Fifth drop, Bash strikes and trees shortly there after at 250 yds in. I get to the tree it is another den with multiple cross outs. I still take the time to shine what I can. I can't find a coon sitting outside the den. It was getting late so we headed home. I stopped by Hardee's and treated Bash to a Hamburger. He is starting to strike out of the box every time we drive past a Hardee's Below are a few pics of last nights hunt.

I took Bash out by himself tonight. I only made one drop tonight. It was short and sweet, treed with the meat. I pull in to my hunting spot and cut Bash loose. Bash strikes red hot and slams a tree hard. He is 200 yds in, I let him tree for a bit before I head into him. I get to the tree and start shinning. It was kind of hard to shine, but before long I see two eyes looking down on me, it's a big coon. The moon was bright and the fog was starting to rise, so I decided tonight to call it an early night and end it on a good note. Below is a pic of tonights hunt.

Fall Round Up
I made it over to Flora for the Fall Round Up on Friday night. I didn't hunt, but had a good time visiting with fellow bluetickers. I was able to make it back over there on Saturday night. I went as a spectator Saturday night. I went with John Bishop. None of the dogs looked very good but we did have a cast winner. Everyone got along very well and it was more like a pleasure hunt. Met several folks for the first time and ran into some I haven't seen for awhile. Flora did a pretty good job handling the hunt. I think by Saturday night they had lost a few local guides and a few casts had to drive well over an hour to hunt. I was in one of them. So, Saturday I had 4 hours of driving for a hunt that is an hour from me. I also had to meet a guy earlier that morning over in Indiana. That was a 3 plus hour round trip. Wow, I just now figured up all my driving time on Saturday. No wonder I was worn out Sunday. I would like to congratulate a friend of mine named Lowell Stewart from MO. Lowell won 2nd place Nitech on Friday night with his Reb Dog. Reb is out of Dual Grand Natural Smokey River Rebel. CONGRATS, Lowell and Reb. I would also like to thank you Lowell for raising a fine pup named Blue Midnight Betty. Betty is out of Dual Grand Anderson Fox Creek Penny X GrntCh Mailes Blue Sue's Rattler. Dual Grand Penny is a full litter mate sister to Dual Grand Natural Smokey River Rebel. Lowell owns Penny and raised a fine litter of pups out of her and Rattler. I hope to get Betty in the woods some soon and see how she is going to progress. I heard about a male from this same cross in AL that is progressing very well. Thanks again Lowell for taking good care of Betty. I got a 10 month old male pup out of Harpeth River Blue Jack x Briner's Blue Midnight Balie in AL. I guess I am going to try and get him back here in Illinois and try and place him where he will be hunted some this season, or I may just hunt him in a rotation with a couple other young hounds I will be working with this season. I am looking forward to coon season and starting these young hounds.

Thanks!!!!
Chris,
I'm glad you like Betty. I know she likes the taste of coon and will tree on a hang up. If she's barking during the day, look for squirrels. These here at the house are driving her littermates and me crazy. I hope she turns out for you. It was good visiting with you in Flora. Wish we'd had a little more time to visit. Thanks for the congrats on Reb. Like I have said many times, if he had a good handler, his scores would be better. But, it's something I want us to do together. I enjoyed the Illinois hunt alot. I wasn't expecting to hunt in Indiana, but what the heck. Just one more place I can say we've hunted and treed coon. Good luck with your hounds and i'll be holler'n at ya.

I took Zeus and Betty out for a hunt last night. First drop Zeus is cranked up. I cut him loose he takes off hard in the direction I headed him. He gets in 300 yrds and makes a loop back towards were I drove in. Betty went in a little over a hundred yrds. This was Betty's first night out. Zeus falls treed not too far off the the road. Betty makes her way back towards the truck. I let Zeus tree for a while before I go to him. The tree is brushed in pretty good at the base. I start shinning, it's not long and see 2 eyes shinning down on me, he has the coon. We lead back to the truck and head to our next drop spot. Next drop, Zeus fires in hard, he gets over 600yrds and loops back. Zeus trees next to the creek. I believe he missed on that one. The tree right next to him is a den with a 90 degree crook in it and is over hanging Zeus were he is treed. Betty tagged along with me. We load up and head for the house. About an hour after I get home, I have already laid down, I hear Zeus let out a long hard bark. So ,I get up to investigate. I see I have had some "trickers" They have spread toilet paper in the trees around the house and Zeus scared them off. Well, I stay up and keep a watch out for them for another 30 minutes or so. Looks like they have gone and I decide to go back to bed. About 30 minutes after I lay back down for bed, I hear a car pull past the house. The car turns around and parks off the edge of the road next to my dog pen. I guess they didn't realize it was there until Betty started barking. They quickly jump in their truck and drive off. I run to the other end of the house and look out the window. The "trickers" have stopped and parked again. I watch them make their way to my house. One of them is right behind my truck wrapping the mail box and light with"TP". It just so happens I have a remote start on my truck. I also have my Laser Pro light in hand. I hit the truck starter and they are scrambling. I have the Laser Pro light wide open on them. Found out later they were 4 kids that work for my wife. They told the wife I scared the sh!# out of them. I told her to tell them I not only had the light on them, but also had the cross hairs on them too. Maybe they won't come back. LOL

10-16-12 hunt
I decided to take Hardware out for a hunt last night. I also loaded up Betty. All this is still new to Betty. She doesn't like riding in the truck very well, but hopefully with some time she will adjust to the hauling. First drop, cut Hardware loose and he is gone like a rocket. He strikes in a couple hundred yrds away on the creek. Hardware works the track up the creek for a short piece then trees. Garmin shows he is across the creek. I let him tree awhile them head into him. I have to walk the creek edge looking for a shallow enough place to cross. (I was wearing the short boots.) I get across to him. I shine his tree, and find a nice sized coon in his tree. I let Hardware know he did a good job and we head back to the truck. Second drop, Hardware is off like a rocket, he breaks to the left into a smaller section of timber he hunts it hard and fast. He loops back out of that section and heads for the bigger section. In short order he is treed at over 600yds in the other section. I check the Garmin, it shows a oil lease road that will get me within 150 yrds of him. He has been treed for awhile. I was trying to round up Betty before I headed to him. I finally drive off and leave Betty. The Garmin was right I parked within 150 yrds of him. I make my way to him, he is treed on a "water oak". Lots of limbs and still lots of leaves. I shine and thought I seen a glimpse of an eye a couple times, but I couldn't be for certain. I believe he was there. I let Hardware know he did a good job and we head for the truck. I then drive back to get Betty. She is there waiting on me. I get her caught and we head for home. Below is a picture of last nights hunt.

10-23-12 hunt
A guy I work with was interested in seeing some of my hounds go. He had been after me for a while to take him. So, last night I picked him up and we went for a little coon hunt. I took Zeus. First drop Zeus punches in over 600 yds and trees on the creek bank. We sit back and listen to him tree awhile before we head into him. We get to his tree, it's a den, but we shine it over good hoping to to see one on the outside. No luck. So, we lead back to the truck and move. Next drop, Zeus fires in along the field, cuts hard to the right, heads to the creek and hunts the creek out to the road. We get in the truck and catch him on the road. We move to our last drop spot of the night. I cut Zeus loose down a oil lease road that goes down the middle of a good section of woods. Once again he breaks hard to the right and strikes in there a fair piece. We sit back and listen to him move the track. He gets out in a cut corn field and has a little trouble with it. But it's not long and he has the track moving back into the timber. Zeus has moved the track back towards us and trees 100 yrds from us. We set back and listen to him tree for a bit before we head to him. We get to his tree, it is one of them dag gum water oaks that has all them limbs and lots of leaves. We shine the tree and I can't find anything. I'm thinking he may have missed on that one. I noticed when we were heading into the tree and got close, Zeus came off the tree to meet me and he very rarely if ever does that. I usually have to drag him off the trees. So, that had me wondering that he may have knew he wasn't right and was gambling. Anyway, we lead off and head for the truck and make our way home. On the way home the guy tells me that he could get use to doing this. I told him just because you broke up with your girl friend the other day, doesn't mean you have to run out find something to replace her right away. We had a good time. So, we are eating lunch today and this guy asks me if I would sell him a pup and train it. I laughed and said I will work something out with you on a pup, but I ain't training it for you. I told him to think about it for awhile before he makes the commitment on raising a pup. Of course I would help him along the way in getting the pup started. Main thing is we had a good time, but Zeus gave him a touch of coonhound fever.
I caught that same fever 27 years ago now I guess, and have not gotten rid of it.
Old Blue and JR a couple good ol' country coonhounds gave me the fever way back then. Below are a couple pics of last nights hunt.

10-27-12 hunt
Decided to go for a hunt last night. I took Zeus by himself. First drop, Zeus gets treed 300 yds in. There is a grain dryer going fairly close to us making a lot of noise. Zeus has a good mouth, but if he would have been in there deep I would have had a very hard time hearing him or any other dog. I get to his tree and shine, he has the coon. We head for the truck and move on to another spot. Second drop, Zeus gets in over 700 yds and trees along the creek. I get to the tree and shine. I notice right away a very nervous acting squirrel moving around up in the tree. I continue to shine because I know the way that squirrel is acting a coon has ran him out of a nest or a hole. I can't find the coon. But I feel it was there. We lead off for a ways and I turn back and coon eyes are shinning back at me. On my way into this tree I came across a weird growing white oak tree, so I take a couple pictures of it to share with you all. We get to the truck and move on. My brother is hunting a few miles away with a friend of his. I have his collar programmed in my Garmin, so I decided to try and find him. Garmin shows he as at his friends house, they just got done hunting. I meet my brother on the road and we go and make a couple more drops. Our first drop together, Zeus and Raven go through a section fast, we drive around and find them treed right off the road in a big maple den. We lead out and move. Our next drop together we cut them, They get treed. We shine, can't find it. I feel Zeus may have missed that one. Brother and I decided to call it a night and head home. On my way home I decide to turn Zeus out one more time before calling it a night. I cut Zeus loose, I'm watching him on the Garmin and see he is hunting the section out good. This section is kind of horseshoe shaped. He falls treed 90 yds from the truck. I let him tree awhile before I head into him. I get to the tree it is a smaller hackberry tree. There is not a leaf in this tree, but there is a coon. He has the meat. We end the night on a good note. I stop by Hardee's and treat Zeus to a Hamburger for a job well done last night. Below are a couple pictures of that weird tree, and Zeus treed.
