i didnt walk around a bunch of dens or really look hard but i did look and i did cover a lot of ground. i know it seems odd to me. im going muzzle loading tomorrow, hopefully they move better than the coon.

hunt
I am hunting tonight....good luck
Coon seem to be movin some tonight.. Felt like a heat wave compared to the last few nights! Lol
rutting
the reason there is'nt alot of small coon is because of the drout we had this past summer, alot of wildlife did'nt make through it. they need water before food. most animals, especially the coon does'nt have saliva and can't swollow food unless it's wet or have water. and about the coon rutting now or they've been bred already ? it usually takes a cold spell of the coon being laid up for a period of time, and then if and when there's a warm spell, they will start to rut. if someone thinks or believes that they rut in november, (not in ohio) i never heard of that, not in 45 years of coonhunting. like i mentioned about the drout last summer, it hurt all of our wildlife here and alot of other states.
rutting
lol thats what I know too coon dont rut till usually late december in to january..and I to have hunt over 40 years...I agree with rick... I havnt made it out tonight my son has my gun in his trunk locked up and he is at work ..might go at1am when he is on break...get my gun...
Ohio coon rut
Always starts late Jan and turns on gig time in the middle of Feb. Always has for the 47years I've hunted in Ohio. If weather is real bad, they wait for a warming trend and I have seen the coon in full rut in early march. Mother nature does here thing, a coon can't raise a litter of coon without a food source for the sow to eat. If they bred in Nov., it would be hard for a coon to have a good food source to substain and raise a litter of kittens. Eating snow what get it done! Coon should start to rut in a week or two!! JMO!! That's why for the most part you won't see kittens down until June in Ohio. JMO!! Racoon gestation period is 63 days. Bred in late Jan, kittens are 2 to 3 months old before they start to come out with the sow and roam around!!

I checked several dens today and didn't see any tracks around them. When the rut starts, they'll have paths around dens
