Earl

I did post some information about Earl on Mikes thread. I bred Earl to Sis which should make a good cross. Earl is very young but I was afraid if something would happen to him at leased I will have a littler of pups out of him. He as proven to me over an over again that he is a real nice hound. I have not had a hound like him for some time. Thanks again for selling him to me.

Crow is with pups. Due around July 10, 2013. Ultrasound showed at least 7 and most likely more. Ben X Crow is a GREAT cross for you that want fast gritty dogs with nose and tree power for bear, coyote, cats and coon. Asking $300.00 per pup. Dave Landis has pick of the litter.

Worked Ann and Boone again tonight with some luck, but not as seen in the videos. Tomorrow morning is the moment of truth for Brook. If between the times she kicked the crap out of Huck she allowed for some makeup sex will be revealed when Dr. Schultz does her ultrasound. Hopeful we'll have pups in mid-July off Huck x Brook. Crow x Ben pups will be on the ground at that time, and Crow already has grand pups on the ground thanks to Pat Q breeding Earl to Sis. Stay tuned...

Brook's ultrasound was good, we have puppies due around July 18th. Huck is a top bear dog out of Stringer x Fairchild's Diamond. Should make some kind of hounds for bear, cat, lion, coyote, and coon. Pups will be $300.00.

Been moving some hounds around, getting ready for Brook and Crow to whelp in the next 2-3 weeks. Plus getting antsy with training season coming in just over a week from now. Trueboy needs work alone and will be getting it with Brook and Crow set up. Have young hounds needing training too, so with pups and all, I'll be busy...

Crow whelped her pups this morning. So far 7 out of 9 are still with us. The 7 are doing well at this time. Looks like a heck of a lot more females than males, and the 2 that died were females. Hope are luck holds for a couple more days with low humidity and this cooler weather. Cam's heading out tonight with Ann and Boone to get them headed into the woods. Hope he has no problems with those young two knuckleheads.

Crow's pups are coming a week old. She has five alive. The male is sold, as is one of the females. Talked to Ken Hitchcock and he said they treed a bear last Sunday. Karl Stacer told me they treed a bear last Sunday with his son Steve's hounds. Brook's pups are due as early as tomorrow. Hope the heat ends before the the new pups come. Plan to hunt Trueboy this Sunday night. He needs time alone in the timber.

Crow's pups are 11 days old now and moving around well. She ended up with 5: 1 male (spoken for) and 4 females (one spoken for) and hopefully they'll continue to do alright. Brook has 6 that are now 2 day old. No count on males to females at this time. Took Trueboy for his first hunt of the summer tonight and had no luck, unless you count a nice deer run as good. Needed the Tri-tronics tonight to light up a hound, but didn't have it with me. Next time for sure.

Crow lost another pup yesterday..**** shame... 3 females and one male left. Two females to sell. Brook's pups continue to do well. Week old tonight. Took Trueboy with Cam's walker gyp Rena last night. Had a nice little hunt. Rena is more coon minded than Trueboy is at this time, but Trueboy is such a strong looking tree dog. I hope he gets his act together better so I can get him singled out soon... Too many young hounds waiting to hunt to have to mess with him too much...

I got Trueboy out alone that past 2 nights. He's hunting close, but has got some coon up. Tonight he worked a lay up on this Ash snag. Had the coon and did a right nice job locating and treeing.

Here's a couple photos from earlier tonight:

Finally, after a few years of trying and planning, I made it over to Scot Oulds last night for a hunt in the Ontario bush. We had Scot's father Calvin tagging along for a while, Scot's daughter Kendra tramping brush for us, and Scot's neighbor Marty and friend Leon who is from the Netherlands and has hunted all over Europe and South Africa, but never saw a coon... and nearly didn't on this hunt! It took a few drops to get away from the grape vines, snags, and culverts, but we finally treed one with Cassie and Trueboy! Here's some pictures from the hunt:

First tree, Cassie on the front side, Trueboy on the back.

Cassie looking good on the tree.

Finally have one with Trueboy hitting it hard.

Scot with Cassie and me with Trueboy after a nice night in the Ontario bush. It had been 11 years since Scot and I busted brush together, and hopefully it won't be that long until we do it again!

Slew and Crow pups

Hi Jim just checking in. I was wondering how Earl's litter mates are doing and if any are for sale I sure like Earl. Been running him on bear and he is doing a good job. He just got a little to close today and got beat up. I think he will make it just hope he will run a little smarter next time. Home of the Lake Superior Blueticks! PDQ!

Posted by Jim Bartley on 08-09-2013 06:59 AM:

Pat: I don't know if any littermates are available. I can check. Scot: Thanks for the hand in helping me transport some pups.

Tonight's hunt was Trueboy banging 3 dens as I looked around the edge of the woods/cornfield and show at least 4 coon sitting up. Two of the dens are old friends, but the one in these pictures is new to me. Never knew it was there, but then again they pushed out the woods around it where I would treed in the past and left it exposed.

And no, he's not chewing, it's an optical illusion:

It's been a rough few days here. While heading up to hunt Sunday night, Brook decides to start killing her 3 week old pups. Wife makes frantic call and by the time I got home, only one was still alive, but had serious head trauma. Been working like heck to keep her alive. I think she'll make it, but she's acting more like a day old pup then a 3 week old one. **** shame. This was one of the most active, lively acting litters I've had in years. Nice Huck pups for sure... now gone. A big financial hit I could ill afford at this time.

After a week of working to save one pups from Huck X Brook that Brook didn't kill - but hurt real bad - I made it back to the woods tonight. Crow was not dry yet from her litter of pups, but I took her with Trueboy anyhow. We made 4 drops, made 3 trees and had one dry run. Only found one coon, but for a moonlight night, it was alright.

First tree of the night, cornfield coon that was found. Dropped again in the field across the laneway, but they circle the 20 acres and didn't strike... so off we went!

Second tree of the night. Nice cornfield race ending in a dead ash loaded with grapevines. Could get the coon to look. Crow is standing on an old cow water trough.

Last tree of the night. Big Elm tree. Could get anything to look, but to tree on an elm this big in the country that's alive is rare.

Wow! Hunted 2 nights in a row... hasn't happen in a few months. Hot here at night for this time of year, but the coons are moving. Last night Truboy and Crow took a track for over a 1/2 mile, then split from each other. Trueboy was cut off my me before he got to the neighbors free stall barn (less than 100 yards away). Crow continued on for a while more, crossing the road into another corn patch before putting her track into a tile main. I figure she ran her's a good mile or more.

Tonight I let Crow rest and took Trueboy with Boone for her first night of the new season. Boone went with Trueboy and stuck with him real well. The first tree was impossible to shine due to undergrowth. Second track was a long cornfield race that ended with Trueboy under a whole litter. I let them all live and made one more turnout. Trueboy ran a ditch coon for a quarter mile and I picked him up on the road before he got over into a yard I didn't need to be in at 12:30 AM. Another hot night with hot tracks...

Pictures from the night. First tree:

Second tree - 3 pictures:
