-- Hey any strange "encounters" while hunting? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=13829)
The sixth happy birthaday balloon tonight under a tree the dogs were on. the first was from miinesaota because it had a tag on it. The others I don't know. This one I brought home and it has a barcode on it , you recon it counld be traced? It's getting spooky to me - that many ballooons under trees and no other trash biggere than a cigarrette butt on 15,000 acres.

i found a birthday balloon while lost in a stand of cedars tonight
A few years ago I had a manly acting pup about six months old I expected to start treeing any time. I turned him in a swweetcorn patch on the edge of a dryed up swamp and he went and treed down in it a couple hundred yards with me right behind him . Before I got to him he hushed and came to me . I urged him back but to no avail. so I gave up and headed out. Towrecktly he darted between by legs and after me putting a cussing on him he would not get out. Then he got to glancincing backwards and giving out low growls. Then he stood up stiff with his hackles raised up for a few seconds and turned and hauled ass and left me . The hackles on my neck stood up and I even beat him back to the truck. I got rid of that shickenchit shortly thereafter.
scariest hunt
I was running beagles in Alabama and it was getting dusky dark but they were on a rabbit so I stopped and was just listening to them when all of a sudden one screamed out and the other dog started barking in one spot so i took off over to see what was going on when the other dog screamed out . When i got there all i saw was some blood on the water. Alligators got them . It scared me to death and tore my heart out to lose those two poor dogs. Dnr brought gators into area to lower the beaver population thinking they would die in the winter but they survived and multiplied. i was scared to walk back across the creek to get home in the dark by then .

.. we were going to turn loose and the fella that was guiding us said that that car hadn't been there before . it looked like a junked out car sitting there until this crazy acting sapsucker jumped out and asked us what we were doing there. i asked him that a better question would be , what in the heck he was doing there. anyway the guide susspected somthing and he said we better go. he clamed that guy was probably cooking meth and that ther was no telling what that bugger was capable of.

Ha! I do that kind of thing all the time. LOL
We used to have a homeless guy, in our small town, that lived out of his car. One night, out with my hunting buddies, we heard the dogs baying something in the middle of this 60 acre section. We got in there, to find the dogs baying this homeless guy sitting in a lawn chair, in the middle of the woods!
We got our dogs and said nothing, and neither did he. To this day, I cannot imagine what he was doing there.
continued
That same night that the frost had fallen early and the fog overhead was thick, we left that club to walk hunt back to the car about a mile and a half away we figured. The dogs didn't strike until we happened on that tree with the initials in it where we struck the first time. In the direction we had just come from , we saw some glowing seemed like fifty yards away and twice as tall as a person. You couldn't see it a bit withe the light on. My buddy said that it was swamp gas. None of us had seen swamp gas but we had heard of it. Since we knew where the car ought to be and we could make out the edge of the pasture, we weren't that scared since it was behind us. My buddy struck a match to light a cigarette and I was lighting mine off his match and the fire was hanging down off the matchstick. That did it. We had an all out race back to the car and the fog must have settled and frosted again. When the brothers slammed on brakes to get in the car they skidded way on past it. I had the car cranked and in gear when they got back. The dogs heard us and caught up with us at the gate. Otherwise they would have got left.
The more I think about it I'm pretty sure that coon was really a ringtailed cat like they have out west. I never saw a coon like that before or since.
my dog trailed down a ditch into a big swamp one night and treed. i had hunted every where around the section before but had never set foot in there till this night.
just as i got to the swamp i saw a older man leading a dog towards me with a dim handheld flashlight. i spoke to him and said hi ,did ya tree any coon. he said yea,one big ole boar out in that swamp. i said are you hunting alone. he said yea i always do. i told him if he would wait for me i would turn loose with him a couple times.
as i walked passed him to go get my dog i noticed as my light shined his black and tan that only one of the dogs eyes reflected the light.
when i got in the swamp i relized this was no kiddy pool. it was rough, at some point i stepped off into a hole that had no bottom. i seriously thought it was the last of me. a strange calm came over me, about that time a strong hand grabbed the hood on my coat and jerked me straight up and out of the water and stood me straight up on my feet.. it was the old man. he said son, watch your step in this swamp. it aint a kind place.i adjusted myself, i thanked him and told him i thought for sure i was gonna drown.i went on to my dog with a stick to poke the ground before i stepped. i got my dog and finally made it back to the edge. the old man was no where to be found. a few days later i stopped at the house closest to the swamp and ask if i could hunt it. the man there said yea you can hunt it,but its rough going in there. i ask if anyone else hunted there. he said no, my grand dad did ,but he drowned in the deep water about 20 years ago back in there. he said i've never been coonhunting myself but my grand dad, he loved to coonhunt. my grand ma use to tell storys about his hunts with an old black dog that was blind in one eye.

toe cutter, that story was cool. If you are telling it as it happened I would have to say an angel was assigned to get you home that night and not to scare you doing it. I am not a ghost believer so that's all I can figure other than there was another person there just to save your butt. Either way God was watching over you dude.
We found a backpack in a field one night with something obviously in it. we got the heck out of there. It was along a fence row we walked all the time, was never there before, and wasnt bleached from the sun.
not hunting but it creeped me out
My cousin and I were up by my woods one afternoon before dark working on a run-in pen to catch some young, underhandled horses. We kept hearing something and my cousin went to investigate it. when he looked in the edge of the woods he saw a MAN standing there. He started yelling "HEY what are you doing?!" the man run down the hill and took off. Scared me bad. Im more often than not working on stuff on my own outside.

This didnt happen to me, but a friend of mine was coonhunting in a spot he often frequents, he turned the dogs loose and heard his male treeing. He started walking that way and found one of the dogs our friends had lost a few days earlier. He tried to catch her but she was too skiddish. Meanwhile while he was trying to catch her both of his dogs shut up.. As he was walking to his dog he saw a car in the field. He turned off his light and went on til he saw 4 shadows. He stopped til they went back to the car. He found his male dog tied to a tree and his pup beside her. As he made his way through the woods he went back to where the other dog was and found her dead and gutted. He got on the opposite edge of the field and the woods from the car. He heard something behind him and it was a guy, he had been following him! My friend threw his lights off(already had them unstrapped) and he said he run like hes never run before dragging his dogs. The guy was yelling something like "Come back Leslie!". My friend shot at the guy chasing him twice and the guy cut back through the woods. The cops were called, they pretty much didnt believe him because the car and gutted dog were gone when they got there. They did get onto him and about shooting at the guy who was chasing him too. They did walk him to get his light though

Scared him pretty bad, he still wont hardley go alone anymore. What makes it crazier is the week before the guys dropped my friend and I off at the spot where the guy chased our friend out, we were hunting boys vs. girls so it was just us 2 in there alone and the guys were a couple miles down the road. I had a really bad asthma attack that night(already had a lung and sinus infection and shouldnt of been hunting anyway) if that had happened when it was me and my friend there would have been NO WAY I could have ran.

not really hunting related but i live i putnam co , wv and there a road called sycamore road off of rt 60 . theres alot of big country in there and it ties into several other roads and another county , anyway alot of ol timers have claimed theres a mountain man living out there . well a buddy of mine was turkey hunting way out sycamore creek ridge and right after daylight he heard something walking he watched a very rough looking man dressed in rags and what appeared to be animal furs walk down to this creek bend down and get a drink of water from his hand , took a make shift looking cantine out a fill it , then he walked away . he thought at the time it was just another hunter but he had no gun ! he said i got the heck out of there awhile after it was outa of sight . i have a bluetick buddy that lives were sycamore ridge ends and hunts out there nightly on night dave was hunting and came up on a make shift trap line of homemade live traps and seen what it appeared to be human bare foot prints . another to add to this my uncle has a farm that is on hungry creek that joins sycamore , he has a old farm house on his property and a old cellar , he always grows a graden that will feed the army and he takes alot of potatoes and what nots and stores in that ol cellar more than once his cellar has had someone in it messing around and the last time it had muddy human foot prints on the old stone floor in it . he said hes heard about the sycamore mountain man since he was a young boy but never believd it till a few years ago . everytime we hunt his farm we have a gun no matter if season is in or not !

Was reading some of these stories to my Mom and she reminded me of this. One day my cousin was out squirlle hunting, he was sitting on a log just watching. All the sudden he got this eerie feeling and something hit him in the back. A few seconds later he felt it again. He turned around but didnt see anything. He moved to a different log then felt it again, he turned around and a little boy about 5-6 was standing behind him throwing rocks at him. He sent him home(within eye site from the woods) and told him he didnt need to sneak up on people in the woods like that and why. Dont guess hes seen him since.
