Posted by vabearhunter540 on 08-17-2014 08:38 PM:

Yes, the 320 is connected and communicating the collar. When I attempt to change communication ID to anything other than 0-9 I get the message. It is, however, able to auto assign an ID greater than 9 when you add a collar for the first time through Add Dog.

NEW PROBLEM
------------------------------------------
We experienced another issue with the 320 + TT15 today while hunting. I had the exact same issue last weekend but was unable to narrow down exactly what was going on. This time I could replicate the problem repeatedly. The issue:

1. My TT15 Collar was set to ID: 16 (auto set from add dog).
2. I removed the collar from the 320 in order to track a buddy's 26 collar.
3. ERROR: My 320 was tracking my 16 collar as 26.
4. To verify, afterwards we turned off every collar. We then turned on the TT15 with ID 16. I double checked the TT15 ID by removing it and then adding again. It had id 16. I then removed the dog from my 320 and added the 26. Indeed, the 26 showed connection to dog which was the collar with id 16.

The exact same issue happened last Sunday but with the TT15 collar with id = 8 , and tracking collar 28.

Mr. BearHunter I see exactly what your saying. Garmin is aware of this and an UPDATE should be out in a few day correcting this problem. Good Catch!!

BIRDSEYE

I still cant get my handheld to show any birdseye. I have tried to download it 3 times, I even put a sd card in it but it still wont find it. Under basecamp on my computer after it downloads it there is a green check by the date that I downloaded. I did have a note pop up at the top of the screen that there was a update for my alpha. Could this be the problem?

When you are in Basecamp, and are selecting the area to download, about the last screen asks you to check the box if you want it to download to your device. If you don't check that box, it will only load to basecamp.

Mr. VA Bearhunter Garmin has your update. Garmin came out with an update for the problem you are having with the ID and also an update for the Bark Detection.

Changes from version 3.70 to version 3.80:
Properly manages bark detection indication.
Fixes inability to set a collar ID greater than 9.

In other words anyone that has an Alpha or Astro should have version 3.8 software if your are up to date.

Thanks Bruce. I applied the software update and was able to change to any id.

Has anyone else been having a problem with Basecamp? It won't let me download maps the past couple of days. Garmin Alpha is hooked up, I selected the area, then clicked download, the next screen will pop up but it won't download. I'm pretty good with all this technology so I'm thinking this is on Garmins end. Alpha is up to date.

Bruce, is there any way to download the satellite imagery on to an sd card without hooking the Alpha up?

You should be able to send to sd card in card reader.

I am not sure both issues are related. I have noticed on a lot of ALPHAs the communication signal seems to be weak when it is working fine. Many times when the dog is within a hundred yards or so.

As far as the arrow goes, calibrating the unit should correct that unless you have an internal problem or a influence from a magnetic field close by. Truck, light, power lines, etc.

It could be any of the following

Battery issue
Dirty/short circuit electronic board
Bad component on board

You can eliminate the battery question and here is how I would do it.

Charge the collars in question. Look at the page that shows battery life after charging and it should indicate full charge.
Turn them on and get them linked up to satellites which is two or three flashes. Look at them again in a couple hours and see if they are both showing the same and still full or maybe down one bar. Time it so you will be around them when they are running down which is 17 hours on 5 sec update. See if they last 17 hours.

If they don't last 17 hours it is or shut off you it is probably the battery. If they run 17 hours need to look at the circuit board. Don't mess with the metal plate but take the four corner screws our and then unplug the battery. Look very close at the board especially where the switch is and look for discoloration or actual corrosion. Contact cleaner and toothbrush works well to clean up board.
While you have it open check the date on the battery.

Mr. Bruce I have a garmin dc40 collar question for you sir. I am still running the 220 garmin and the past couple weeks my 40 series collar will lose signal at about any distance, showing a question mark for a while then pick back up? Now I also have issues with my 30 and 40 series collar losing signal between 400 and 1000 yards. What do you think?

I would suspect a problem in the VHF signal between the handheld and collars. Do any of your collars have a aftermarket antenna on them. Do you have one that works better. If you have one that works well you can swap that antenna with one not working well and see if things improve.

It could also be the connection on the handheld has cracked at the solder joint but I would check out the collars first.

Alpha

Bruce I have an Alpha, my question is on the training side. I have not figured out how the low med high figures in. what would give the level of training of a trash breaker exp, this is what I have been using untill I got the Alpha. Thanks

Trashbreaker has settings 1-6

ALPHA has Traditional 1-6 with low, med, high
it also has 1-18 linear

Now the question before we proceed would be is the 6 on the TB and the 6 HIGH traditional and 18 Linear on ALPHA the same strength of a shock or stimulation. That answer is YES. So now we just do a mathematical correlation to determine your answer.
………….1 Linear = 1 low
………….2 Linear = 1 Med
TB 1 = 3 Linear = 1 High
………….4 Linear = 2 Low
………….5 Linear = 2 med
TB 2 - 6 Linear = 2 high

It goes up to TB 6 using that same pattern.

Each dog is different. Pick a level of stimulation that gets its attention and work form there. How the collar is placed on the dog is also very important.

Thanks Bruce, I now see where I have been messing up.

Alpha compas

Is normal to have recalibrate compass almost every nite

Posted by mark booth on 09-10-2014 02:26 AM:

I have had the same Garmin 320 for 3 years. I used to only have to calibrate the compass like once a month. Now I have to do it two or three times a night.

Posted by on 09-10-2014 01:30 PM:

.

The biggest thing that causes the need for calibration changes is Temperature Swings. Go from a warm house/car to freezing weather and that can effect it. Keeping the unit in a car during 100 degree days can effect it.

how do you know on the alpha what version its updated to,can you bush some button and it tell you "version 3.80" if so how do you get to it
oh and how do you find out the version on your collars T5 and TT10 to be specific

From the HOME PAGE
select SETUP
scroll all the way to the bottom of page three.
ABOUT and select.
That will tell you what version of software you have.

TT 15 you mentioned need to be attached to the computer and run on web updater for details on them.
T5 you should be able to go to the information page for the collar and select IDENTIFY UNIT
