I'm ready for season Nov 14 midnight

I need to finish Maggie and start Lumber. Sounder and Magic are tired of sitting around not getting to go. I think this will be a fun year in the woods for me. Plenty challenges ahead but I think I'm up for it.
Lumber has the making of a beautiful hound and if he turns out better than his daddy he will have plenty girlfriends in his future I hope.

Hunted up north for two nights

Treed 8 coons caught one on the ground with Maggie and a couple of walkers.
Nice time.
Just going to relax a few days now. Our deer season starts Saturday so I won't be anywhere near the woods this weekend. Might turn loose one more night this week till next Wednesday our season will be in.

Lovin my blue dogs.

Wednesday night at Midnight I'm turning all three dogs loose for the first night a season. They are going to wear me out but I want to give them all the first night break in.
Looking for good thing out of Maggie this winter.
Shooting coons out with steel shot is kind of fun with a shotgun. They sure do come out really mad or real dead no inbetween.
I live for the dogs fighting the coon. Best part of the hunt in my opinion.
I must say I have some pretty good kill dogs but at times that ole ringtail backs them up. I'm pumped up and ready to go.
Iowa sure has some big coons and I will come to Kansas and hunt a few times and get those big ringtails as well.
So I have hunted season in Tenn. Iowa, been in Kansas, and Indiana. So far so good in getting coon on the limb

When Maggie comes in heat I will be breeding her to my Sounder dog. It should be a great cross with the blood mixed together and looks and mouth to spare. She should be in by Feb I think.
Coon season is 6 days away and I just can't wait to fur all my dogs.
I will be looking to travel and little and hunt with some dogs with weather permitting this winter. Rather wait till leaves are off.

Wet weather

Windy and wet which means it will blow the rest of the leaves off the trees and good and damp so tracking at the beginning of season should be real good.
Good luck in the dog training of young dogs and sharping up the old dogs.

Let the training really begin!

Keep um Blue and turn them loose! Keep track of your coons seen, slick trees and dens and unfinished tracks and see how your hound really stacks up to your opinion of a top hound. Just mark on your calendar.

1.5 hours away coon season starts

I'm taking all 3 dogs Magic, Maggie and Sounder! I have a feeling this is a crazy move being that Sounder and Magic haven't been out in a long time. I feel lots of walking is going to be involved for me at midnight!

Got in at 5:20 am

Dogs looked good. Magic split treed twice from Sounder and Maggie and had his coons. Sounder and Maggie had one coon and one den.
Very hard to handle 3 big dogs alone but I got it done. I made one mistake tonight. Sounder and Maggie split and I thought they was far enough away I could shoot Magic's coon but they pulled. I guess 6 shots with a shotgun will bring any dog in and a nice live coon on the ground screaming was just to much. The next time the split I tied the two and then went to Magic and give him his coon first and then gave the other two theirs.
Tired need to sleep a while ahead home about noon to hunt in my hometown for a night.

Last night hunt in my home town

I took Magic and Maggie and hunted with a friend and his son
We treed 8 singles, two den trees one we could see the coon in two holes in the creek bank and one flat slick tree
Magic had 6 of 8 first trees and Maggie had the other two first trees with coons
It was a nice hunt and my friend and his son just have started dogs so they didn't really stand a chance. Coons were not moving so the dogs just were falling treed with the meat.

Tonight I head to Kansas for two days to hunt. I will take Sounder and Maggie.

So far my coon per tree percentage I'd say is real high Let me see 12 coons seen 4 den trees two holes and one slick tree. All track had a end to them

Treed some Kansas coons the last two nights

I hunted Friday night with Scott Swaney we hunted Sounder, Maggie and a Bullet bred young dog. A black and tan guy showed up just when Sounder and Maggie located so he walked in with us to see the coon. He wanted to hunt with us the rest of the night so we did. We treed two singles and a den and called it a night. I didn't want to push my luck.

Saturday night we hunted with Roger Lathrop, Brian Bebber, we tree 6 trees 4 with coons and two dens and was done by 11 pm.

Willard looked good. Sounder did alright but was a little loose on a couple of trees for my liking but I will fix that. Brian's female got one two herself. Maggie stayed at home on this trip. Scott's male is in the learning process but sure doesn't mind tangling with a mad bandit for sure.
All in all good good. We could have treed many more.

Tonight I will hunt Maggie here at home with Charlie Wyatt

Two dens and a hole that was it for tonight. I knew my luck was going to change. Coons were not moving tonight in my area.
Had Magic and Maggie with a young Crook female Charlie Wyatt brought along.

Took Maggie alone

She struck in about 200 yards and got treed about 600 and had the meat! We made two more dumps but not a bark and she hunted out decent. Baby steps. Coon weighted 23 lbs.
Had a tree with no leaves on it and **** near missed the coon out in the wide open. He was grayish and blended in right on the limbs of the tree and he was at the top. I have no idea how I missed this coon. Can't imagine how many I have look over out in plain site

First dump 2 slick trees and Maggie wouldn't back them on those but the 3 rd one she did.

Next Dump just turned her and a old female loose got deep .6 miles and had the meat. Called it a early night

Hunted back in my hometown

We made one tree with coon seen and 3 dens. Maggie and a young male left a tree to go to a couple of dogs treed and that didn't make me happy at all.
Oh well it's part of hunting and training.
Not sure what time I will hunt tonight. I like my basketball and our team doesn't play till 8:30 pm so I will just have to see.

Thanks for your time. When I read your posts it seems he is a fine hound. Have you got many pups on the ground from him? I always liked the Hawk dogs. I had a good one back a few years. I bred her to Nails and got some fine pups. I hunt with Mike and Nails and they were both top shelf. I am still looking for a stud for Lou. I sure like the Ped. on Timber. Dave

I have not bred any females as of yet to Sounder or Magic! Maybe it will change who knows. I do plan on breeding Maggie to both at some point.

I do believe if we breed Diva again, it will be to Magic. I like the idea of so much old Hawk blood up close.

Maybe Roxy will come visit her uncle Sounder down the line, too! Just thinking long term.
