SLOOPY . . . . . . .all i can say about this old girl is WOW . . . .man i love this old hound. She's 10 !!!!! but has more drive and heart than most 2&3 yr old hounds.SHE LOVES TO HUNT. Near, Far, rivers bottoms, cornfields, hot summer nites, blistering cold to rainy nites . . . SHE TREES COON. I've heard Jay say she was a "LAY-UP DOG" when she was young. well, SHE STILL IS. She has done nothin but show off this kill season, and treed coon other dogs passed up and didnt even know was there. NOW, i've never got to hunt with FRITO, but from Ricks storys it sure sounds like that ol hound is what i would call, "THE REAL DEAL", so to me its no suprise that these FRITO X SLOOPY pups are on fire like they are. I didn't mean to get on here n brag ol sloop up , but she's just made this an awesome kill season. I EVEN GOT THE WIFE TO GO OUT WITH US ONE NITE, she had to see what all this hype was about, lol.

P.S.

Ol Sloop is starting to get a fan base. She has got my little boy HOOKED. He absolutely love HIS dog sloop, he don't think there's a better one out there. He leads her in the woods, feeds and waters her. Sloop has no idea the fire she has started for coonhuntin in one little 6yr old boy.

Did Sloopy have any pups from the cross that was talked about when she headed east ? From what was written, I see the old winding trait did come down on Xjr's line too. That's an old trait, when you get used to it, you try to keep up where to go to get it back.
Rick - If your having problems getting the dogs to come back, go old school and try a horn ...... they seen to have it bred in to answer to it. All it takes is a long hooooot followed by 2 short hoots . I know that worked on a bunch of Sloopy's ancestors, sure saved a bunch of long walks as you could call off tree and across rivers.

Frito's 2011 Stats: 96 total trees, 78 (81.25%) with at least one coon seen. The rest were slicks and dens. He was laid up for about two months with injuries and with pups to hunt and flooding he got out much less last year.

I had him out only once so far this year and all I did was look up den trees under the big moon. So we are in a deep hole starting out the new year. I love a challenge!

Jay, I've not been out for over a week, but today went looking for tracks around the butte. Saw plenty of coons tracks.

I think this is the other best picture of Frito:

Barely 15 months old. He was hunting along a swamp on the south side of Lee Lake. Sticky, warm night on July 19, 2008. He was having a little trouble I recall getting it done in the heat and smelly swamp water and vegetation. Between all my photos of him and a log of each hunt, it has locked up hundreds of memories and facts in my head.

I entered Tucker last night at Lebanon, MO. He's not been in the woods but about an hour so far this year but thought I'd like to see what he'd do in his first hunt.

I treed him 4 times total, each time was a first tree, and twice he was split.

First tree was slick best we could tell but he held solid while the rest of the dogs worked a track and treed a couple hundred feet away. Second tree was another split with the meat. third tree with all dogs he had the meat. Fourth tree looked slick with one other dog.

We minused out but man was I happy. I've mentioned his mouth before. Well on the last tree he feel treed down in a big holler. His mouth carried so well and was so loud the other two guys with dogs working in his area could not hear their dogs after Tucker treed. Eventually Tucker took a breath for a second and then one guy could hear his dog and treed it. The other guy eventually just pitched his dog in there and turned out it never was at the tree.

This youngster just needs some serious work now and he'll do the rest.

TUCKER

Rick I hunted Tuck last night and boy all I can say that guy can Tree with some style. Tippy Toe, Belly on the wood tree dawg. Didnt get any video, didnt have enough juice to record. But I plan on hitting it agian tonight. We made three dumps, the first 2 were blanks. Just wasnt able to hit a good enogh track. The 3rd one we moved on to another spot and Tucker opened one time and didnt here anything out of him forever and as I was getting my tracker out, TREED, DEEP and with the MEAT on the outside of a den. Tucker did some pretty good work last night. It was tough though for some reason.

well i set up ol fargo tonight... every thing worked perfect.. even had another dog out there to entice him.. the only problem was he never took the bait... so never was able to bust him.. i even moved in closer and to diferant spots as he was heading throught the country.never even thought about comming over. no coons were moving . i quit trying to set him up after 3 tries. he traveled 5 mile by the garmin and ended up getting wooded about a mile and 1/4 from were i cut him.. he got treed back behind someones feedlot at about 3am and i snuck in with my light off an gathered him.. cattle were getting a little nervous.. i never looked at his tree..
...brian glad to here you got the big horn tucker dog... hope he works out... he sure is a chromey bugger with a big time horn...

Seriously, I didn't get to bed much earlier last night. I sent ole Frito down the Gasconade River Valley and he dropped in there deep...struck a cold track that turned into a blazing chase along the river bank and then across the fast water and back downstream on the other bank where he treed the running rascal. The way that coon ran for the river he must have been taught this by other dogs?!

I could see the coon from across the river and wanted the satisfaction of looking up at him but there was no wading the river's current last night so I drove around and walked in. Took 3 hours from when he settled on the tree to getting him back to the truck. Walking like this should make one feel young but sliding down the 200 foot bluff to the river, crawling back up and another mile walk back to truck about did me in... for the rest of that night anyway.

Dang were can I buy these dime weekly readers at? I love readingyour hunts. Awesome Rick and Jay. write me a book Guys.

TUCKER UPDATE

Well The last few days here havent been suitable enough to do any hunting. Last night Tuck got to stretch them legs and while he got to do that he was SLAMMIN COONS. I was huntin some of my prime honey holes.
i cut him 3 times last night in 3 different spots He treed 2 coon and 1 den, Thought I seen the one on the outside as I was walking in to the last Tree, but he might of popped back in his hole. The best part about last night was Tucker didnt go too far from the truck. No more than 75 yrds each drop.
Keep you guys posted on Tuck and will try to get some footage of this guy treeing.

Anyone down here in MO is more than welcome to hunt with this dog to see what Frito is really throwing.

Thanks,
Brian
