Johnny, man I hope she took. so far zero has 100% success at producing litters, hopefully I don't jinks it..... rain is the second done by AI. Congrats on the nt ch win w her last night and seen where she won a couple hundred more in Pkc... with her win history she should grand easily. For those that don't know, rain is off spike and is ponchos littermate sister.

Didn't do any good at state hunt, but have picked up several more wins since... also took a week off n went to Iowa to work on deer camphouse I'm building..

Last night won $103, which was win # 35......

Right now, the plan is for Kenny Zuspan to get zero this week n take him up to Ohio/ west Virginia to hunt for awhile. Zero.doesn't do as well when it gets real hot down here ( not to mention all the snakes and gators). Hopefully him and Kenny click! I have my worries though... I have handled zero hundreds of night pleasure and comp hunting and we make a good team.. I hope he's not a one-man dog.. we shall see

Last night he got deep n swam a river n treed.. NO way around and I had to hurry so I didn't miss deadline...He will not leave a tree, so I had to strip down and swim to get him.... knowing he won't leave a tree is worth that every once in a while ( at least that's the way I see it- but I think I may have something wrong w my brain) hahaha

Way to go Polly! If I'm thinking right Polly is off poncho x queen and is a nt ch w some $ won as well...

Took poncho hunting last night for the first time in a while to get him tuned up for the hunt that was called off today... Took a quick video of poncho on the tree, the woods were flooded but ponch did what he does....

Yes Queen

She is a NTCH( in 3 hunts) she also won her cast the last two Monday nights in PKC

She is also fighting off lymes

If you ever get sick of Poncho just send him north. I loved hunting him.

Carried Toby and Poncho a few drops together when Johnny had him. He is a nice hound anyone would be proud to own. Lance

Thanks Guys

Yoder, Gilroy and Tibor raised and trained Poncho, but I have had him going on 2 years now and I like the big rascal! Those boys always have a winner or 5 in their kennels.

Zero is currently #1 in the Bluetick National Race in $KC, he's won about $1500 this year, with about $1000 counting toward races

BUT....Zero just went up in Ohio w/ Kenny.... Me and PONCHO are about to hit the hunts, and Kenny and Zero better get with it, because PONCHO has the ability to catch up....

KENNY, you better hope you and Zero click, cause if not, me and Poncho are coming for Ya'll- You're gonna need that $1000 headstart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I hope Poncho backs up my trashtalking :-)

I got a chance to hunt with Zero last night. He is a nice hound, gets gone, looking to get treed and will stay hooked once he does. I'm sure Kenny will do a lot more winning with him this summer.

I've hunted with Zero a few times and he's done really good job. He's got the go to get the job done. He's shown me that he's a honest dog. He's done nothing to make me think otherwise.

Give Casey a call. If need be I can be a reference. My number is below.

Good Luck Casey and Zero

Trey- Thanks bud. Always enjoy hunting with you Georgia boys and your good dogs. Always a good time.

John- Zero is a solid bluetick hound, probably not the best in the country, but I have faith and enough confidence in him that I will drag him to town. Zero knows what to expect from me as well. I'm sure hes shaken up a little bit, being out of his element and with a new handler... BUT nobody can ever say I'm scared to put my dogs out there. Zero may win and he may lose, he may look good or he may look bad, but there's no excuses.....hes out there hunting and not hiding behind a few wins..

I have won 35 hunts with Zero as a three year old ( hes 4 now). If he never wins again, he has proven to me that he can compete and come out on top consistently in the tough conditions of the deep south.

Still getting poncho back in shape, and I've not been doing the best job at taking him and hunting him hard like he needs-

... NEAT HUNT STORY: I gave a young fellow a started gyp last Friday. He took her out hunting Saturday night and didn't have a tracking collar on her.. Lost her. He called me Sunday morning to see if I had any Ideas. I took Poncho over and cut him in the swamp where she went missing. I turned him loose around 11:00 AM (an hour before lunch). Poncho got a ways in and struck and worked a COLD track, but he moved it out pretty well. Took the track out about 600 yards and located. By the time I got to him in that nasty jungle/swamp it was right at high noon)12:00). Big coon curled up in a fork way up high. I called it Poncho's NoonCoon. HAHAH. That's the first time I've ever treed one that late in the day. I was proud of ol' Ponch!

BUT the gyp never came to cover as I'd hoped, so she's still missing. I told the boy not to worry about it, that's part of it and if she doesn't show up we'd train him another pup.

GOOD HUNTING TO ALL!!!!!!!!!

Jonah- Zero was doing pretty decent for me with a good win percentage... Last year, me and Kenny Zuspan were discussing dogs, he hunted poncho some.. We agreed if I won $1000 on Zero by April, I'd send him up there to see how him and zero clicked in the hills of W. Virginia/Ohio, since it gets so hot down here, especially with our snakes n gators.

Well, Zero won $1500 by April, with a few dollars under $1000 counting toward race... So he's up there w/ Kenny now.

Was it a bad idea? Zero is used to hunting southern swamps n its usually just been me and him, so while he may need some time to adjust, I think it will be good for him in the long run.. he'll learn some things up there he wouldn't learn here- He'll hopefully improve in hunting in terrain hes not used to and be a better dog for it next year. I really could care less about winning the race.. I just enjoy competing and Zero is my buddy. I do miss the heck out of him, me and him have spent a LOT of nights in the woods...

As far as reproducing, I could blow smoke and tell you about the couple of his pups I heard about that are doing well, but in all honesty,I DON'T KNOW YET. His oldest pups are 8-9 months old. I have two that I have taken twice- The only thing I can tell you for certain is the two I have, have drive and good mouths. I have to go get them when I'm ready to go... That's the main thing I am looking for right now is drive- I think that's the bluetick breeds biggest weakness- I call it the lazy streak. both of my zero pups have went hunting every time and have not quit and came back yet.. jury is still out on their tree power, but zero is no slouch there so we will see

He is bred to reproduce, and has only been bred to top females, so time will tell.

Zero

Hi Casey, hope all is well for you & yours in the Southland!

Didn't know if you already have plans or not, but while Zero is up the Ohio way, the $HKC Little World Hunt is being held in Hillsboro, Ohio the week of May 23rd. I would love to see you throw your hat in the ring & have Ken enter Zero in this event. Not too many blue dogs get entered up in these type events around this country.

Harry & I have got an old blue plug we'll be throwing in the mix. Be great to see another Blue dog or two entered up!

PS - On an unrelated note, gonna start dragging along an obnoxious 5 month old blue male pup on some hunts this week. He happens to be out of the Zero & Alice cross. I'll keep you posted.

Take care,
Vic

Btt for zero

Posted by Casey Bigelow on 05-03-2016 05:26 PM:

Thanks John.

Vic- Those obnoxious pups are why I love coonhunting.. You never know which one is gonna turn into a superstar!

Not sure what Kennys plans are, CHKC world would be neat, theres no CHKC hunts around here, so I've never been to one..

I have been missing Zero more than I thought, I've just been in a funk.. Summer and 90 degree temperatures are here so its good he's up North, but my young Banjo pup , Make it rain, has me getting a little fired up..

She is 13-14 months old, put her in a AKC hunt Sat night, as there were no UKC or PKC hunts around and she pulled out the win... By making first strikes and first trees.. Held pressure good for a baby. The other dogs in my cast put a opossum in a hole and that was the only time she came out to me, she wanted no part of it ( which is really neat, because she has never been corrected for a possum- shes never trashed, except for a brief encounter with an armadillo at around 8 mths old- I bumped her and no issues since).

Last night I put her in a PKC hunt and drew out with 3 veteran walker dogs, ranging from 4-8 years old... Winner winner; She didn't win by backing either. She treed the coon and the walkers backed her.. a couple times in an hour hunt.

I was proud of my pup. Scott VH from Wisconsin raised the litter of Banjo and his Grnt Bullet bitch, Hammerhead... I got her as a pup. All I've done is give her a ride to the woods.

I was impressed with her skills. A 2015 model pup, winning 2 out of 2 so far.....

Poncho and zero

Both are coon dogs. Both have won their share and then some in tough company. Zero has been on a roll and has a good bit of $$$ won and was or may still be leading in $kc for breed/state. Casey is a super nice guy that strives for betterment of the breed so if it's not nice he won't kennel it. Plan a hunt with him. He will go. Good luck and safe hunting.
