Bluetick Stud Dog Hunt

Pounder made the suggestion, and after talking with Steve B how would everyone feel about trying one of these, and maybe making it an annual event.

It would be on a off weekend so as not to put extra burdon on anyone trying to host an event, and if you want it to be in the cooler months, with the leaves off, we can try and throw in some Trap/Skeet shooting, plus maybe a rabbit/pheasant hunt during the day and cook out over the fire pit what we harvest.......or maybe we'll just get some nice steaks depending on everyone's aim !!!!!!!!

Lets hear from you Bluetick Stud dog owners and what time of the year would you like to see it...........

I'm in Illinois so can look at this state or Ind, Mich, maybe IA let it be known your thoughts and if the interest is there we'll move forward.

This sounds like fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a great idea to me. Of course I dont have much of a stud dog and I usally dont even no the names of the "Big Time" dogs I hunt with. Me and ole Rebel II can prolly get under a coon in between possums. I will RUN to the phone and call someone and let the know we are fixen to have us a stud hunt. Indiana sounds good to me. Dave

Stud Hunt???

If you really want to call it a stud dog hunt, then you should be hunting dogs off the studs. That would be a stud dog hunt. Otherwise, it's just a coon hunt. If you are interested in a stud, see what you are going to get. You get his pups, not him. How's about bringing that hunt south? Sounds like fun. Mackie had the right idea. If you bring them, you hunt them. But let's see what the studs have to offer. Their pups.

I think we need to at least go half way. If Mark puts it on the board and ask who will attend. Then lets see where we go from there before you decide to go to IL, or OH or IN. You got plenty of southern stud dogs too. Just my opinion.........TCB

I MADE 2 TRIPS TO GEORGIA LAST YEAR TO SUPPORT THE BLUETICK BREED, AND I NEVER COMPLAINED! I WENT TO MISSOURI THE 2 PREVIOUS YEARS TO SUPPORT THE BLUETICK BREED.... I PLAN ON MAKING 2 TRIPS TO GEORGIA THIS YEAR TO SUPPORT OLE BLUE! SO LETS NOT SAY I AM ONLY GOING IF IT IS HELD HERE OR THERE. WE SHOULD TRY TO GO WHEREVER IT IS HELD TO SHOW THAT WE SUPPORT OUR BREED.

i agree with mulberry on hunting the offspring---the ones owned by the stud owner. im with pounder on the location,i put almost 6000 miles of travel attending bluetick events this year to. mark if you fellows take the trouble to organize it we will point the truck and roll !! cool nights and no leaves would be best

I have a dual grand female and we would surely go to see the stud dogs themselves. We can only make 1 or 2 big hunts a year (money/work/kids) and this would be one that we wouldn't wont to miss. I even have a nice young male that is dual ch. (and once granded he will through a all grand 3 gen ped) and I hope for him to be nice stud dog that i would like for all to see and hunt with.

It would also be a great oppertunity for us that cant make all the big hunt or travel and see the big time studs.......when where and how could we help......

stud dog hunt

to me this sounds like a big joke taking your stud dogs to hunt against others stud dogs. as me being part of the general public i would like to see pups out of stud dogs complete against each other . this way i could see which stud dog is produceing the best young hound that have good mouths ,treeing ability and conformation. also brains. then i would be able to see if there adds about their stud dogs would be accurate. like mulberry said you are not getting the stud, you are getting what he produces so why not hunt what your stud has produced so the general public can see for themself. also you need to carry a score card as there will be more then one cast.just my way of thinking................................c r moss

as for the location

I myself can only put on a hunt where I know the hotel people to get a great rate, and the local club members who I know will put the hunters in great coon hunting..........so that means in my own area!!!!!! I cannot put on a hunt in GA or SC or VA as I don't live there and cannot provide hunting services as listed like Trap/Skeet shooting, or even a friendly rabbit hunt or pheasant hunt.

Now, if you guys want to host this event and you want it in your area grab the bull by the horns and make it happen!!!!!!

I know some of us travel, heh I went 1135 miles one way to the Reunion last year, and made the trip both times to MO, and I never missed Bluetick Days in OH, IN, when I lived in NC so don't use that one........matter of fact I counld'nt wait to get up to that good coon hunting, there and Autumn Oaks just to get away from the cut overs and critters that crawl on the ground !! LOL

I have access to Trap shooting here, lots of places to rabbit hunt and also pheasant hunting...........though Iowa and South Dakota are better known for their pheasant hunting, and yes, I've got a couple dogs you guys will enjoy shooting over at them birds !!!

So, lets here from everyone that would like to come and we'll look at a possible location, and again if you want it don't sit on the log, jump up and get it going, plan it, set up the rooms, and extra activities for the hunters while they are your guest.

Sounds easy don't it !!!!!!!!! Hey I like the idea of bringing the offspring, that and the stud himself, as I like to see the stud also as it gives me an idea of what I'm getting from him regarding mouth, nose and everything in between.

HEY EVERYBODY!!

THIS SOUNDS LIKE IT WOULD BE A FUN TIME WHERE EVER ITS HELD, IM GUESSING THAT IND. ILL. OR OHIO WOULD BE THE MOST CENTRALLY LOCATED FOR EVERYBODY. BUT IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO WHO IS WILLING TO TAKE ON THE WORK-LOAD TO PUT IT ON. LETS JUST MAKE IT A FUN TIME WITH GOOD FRIENDS LIKE THE DAYS OF OLD AND JUST BRING WHAT EVER DOG YOU WANT TO HUNT WHETHER IT BE THE STUD OR THE STUD JR. AND LETS NOT FORGET THE GOOD FOOD !!!! THATS ALWAYS IMPORTANT ( TO ME THAT IS )......JYD

UPON FURTHER REVIEW.............I APOLOGIZE FOR MY REMARK. YOUR RIGHT,,,,I CANNOT MAKE IT HAPPEN. HOWEVER, WHERE-EVER IT IS HELD, I WILL BE THERE, AND I WILL HELP YOU MARK, IF YOU NEED HELP. ALL I HAVE IS RAGGEDY OLE FEMALES, BUT OLE BABE WILL BE WITH ME. THIS WAS A WONDERFUL IDEA AND I REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING THIS HUNT!!!!!!!!!.........................CAN I GET A GUDE?????????$$$$$$$$ LOL.....................LATER...............TCB

Posted by choppin axe on 07-16-2003 10:12 PM:

i agree with mulberry. lets hunt the offspring, that way we can also see some great females hunting too. no one could say it no better when he and cr said you dont get the stud dog you only get what he produces. gary woods

Posted by POUNDER on 07-16-2003 10:20 PM:

HUNTING OFFSPRING OFF OF THE STUD IS FINE, BUT LET'S NOT GIVE ALL OF THE CREDIT TO JUST THE STUD DOG...HE IS ONLY HALF OF THE BLOODLINE AND THE PUP MAY BE GETTING THEIR ABILITY FROM THEIR MOTHER. IF I AM GOING TO BREED TO A MALE DOG, I WANT TO HEAR HIM TREE, AND I WANT TO HEAR HIM RUN A TRACK! I WANT TO BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO HIS MOUTH ON TRACK AND TREE. THIS WILL TELL ME MORE THAN ANYTHING. I CAN SEE IF HE BABBLES, IF HE BOGGS DOWN ON A TRACK, IF HE CHEWS... SOME OF THESE TRAITS DON'T ALWAYS SHOW UP IN EVERY OFFSPRING. I WANT TO SEE IF HIS STYLE SUITS ME, BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT MY FEMALES THROW.

This hunt would really not be an advertisement idea for the studs, It would be just a fun hunt to see how the old stud dogs competed against eachother, if everyone brought their females and pups then it would just be a bluetick reunion which is also fine with me. I would love to see an event like this and would try to make it there

Posted by choppin axe on 07-17-2003 12:07 AM:

how about this... stud dogs fridaynite and offspring saturdaynite that way everybody could see the best of both worlds.

Posted by Mark A. Hauck on 07-17-2003 01:35 AM:

now there's an idea

I was thinking the same thing as Pounder but one step further. I'm sure most stud dogs have had ONE good litter and to just hunt the offspring would be ok, but depending on the mother of the pups is the other 1/2 of the making. I too, like to see pups off of the dog I'm going to breed to, but most of all I want to see the Stud, because with knowing your female you DO get the stud or at least 50% of him (more or less).

I think like Pounder said I want to see the package to see if it will complement my female, and my style. Every Stud dog does not produce all coon dogs in each and every litter, and I'm sure no one would say otherwise........I guess I could be wrong but I'm sure we can get plenty of time for each dog to get turned loose by themselves and with company.

That's how they do it for the Walker hunt Jess and them do, and it's just a gathring for potential breeders to come and check out a dog. Every dog may have a bad night once in a while, that being said, we could make a draw for hunting times, and run it through the night. Depending on how many dogs show up, will depend on how long the night will last !!!!!!!!

And if I'm involved with it (JYD) we will have plenty of food and warm refreshments to ward off the cool night chill !!!! I like my food also !!!!!!!!!!

TK.....you don't like Illinois ?????????
