Scoring and Judging question??

Was on a recent hunt, there were 3 dogs in my cast including mine. The judge was hunting one of these dogs. The 2 dogs struck and ran about 800 yards near a road. My dog struck about 20 yards away. We all 3 agreed time out so they could get their dogs back. They jumped In there truck and I jumped in mine. They had me meet them at a county road and wait, while they retrieved their dogs. When they came back they said the dogs were split with 2 coon, so they called Time in without me and plused their dogs.. Is the judge aloud to hunt their own dog and score it?.. If we all 3 agreed on time out shouldn’t All 3 had to agreed calling time in?

1. A judge can hunt and score their dog with majority of cast with hunting time in. It is called a hunting judge. But, majority vote can overturn him or her.

2. In under no circumstances after you have gotten in your truck to go retrieve dogs may you call time back in and score dogs.

3. In under no circumstances can you drive to score a tree.

The only situation where you can stop and restart Hunt time to score a dog is if walking to split trees and it takes I believe 10 minutes to get to the tree( I could be wrong on time)

Unfortunately, and I hate it for you, you got a bad deal.

Like anything else there is a learning period of nite hunts. Don’t let this experience ruin you. I bought lots of lessons before I learned. And, looking back, I had fun learning.

Yes that’s just what I figured. Judge and the other guy was buddies. I told them it was my first night hunt. Sad part is the judge told me he’d take care of me and wouldn’t screw me lol... Thanks for the Reply High Ridge

Please explain 2 and 3 to me because I was always taught you couldn’t drive to a tree. I would also like to know which rule this is so I can drive to trees in these big bottoms

I can’t find a rule against it with a quick overview of the advisor. I also can’t find a rule against it. So, is that the reasoning?

If I am driving to dogs how can I run time on treed dog if he shuts up or how would I know if he got down moved over 200 yards and settled in on another tree?

Now that I look back, I got REAMED. The hunt sucked, coons was not stirring.
My dog struck and didn’t tree one time so I got the minus points. Their dogs struck 4-5 times together and never treed. Then we called the time out and I waited on them while they went and got their dogs that probably was treeing oppossum. Then they come back and tell me they were both split lol. The judge told me I was ahead before they pulled that stunt. F***

Tough break. They are buttholes everywhere in this world. Study the rules set up mock hunts while you pleasure hunting and practice your game. Get back out there and get them.

Once time is called to retrieve dogs, time can't be restarted again until dogs are caught. Even if the whole cast votes to restart time

This is just precious. This is the product of a 1/2 rule book that needs a 1" book to clarify the rules. the OP never seen a coon, yet I will bet he signed the card and gave a win to an undeserving hound, probably made GN that night.

You are right , and that is one reason why we don't have more new people coming back. They think that just because they have a nice hound ,they can let him win. That is not the case, the person who knows what rules will help him and how to take advantage of someone who does not remember ALL the rules can win most nites with a mediocre me-too'er.
Its is NOT about the dogs , Its about the rules. You want to win hunts, pack a Lawyer and a me-tooer. If I am not right, how come there are soooooo many different answers to these "scoring question" threads?

bluetickhound22's dog was struck in at the time they decided to call time out to keep the other 2 dogs from getting in the road. He apparently caught his dog off track and went to meet them. Between the time they got in the trucks and drove around to the other 2 dogs they became treed, so they call time back in and score the 2 dogs and everybody think's that's ok, and you wonder why nobody comes to the hunts. I understand a small country store close by had a pound hunt about 3 weeks ago, you entered your dogs on Friday night and the deadline back was 8:00am Saturday morning and you had to weigh in 3 coons for a chance to win, $ 40.00 dollar entry fee, they had 2 Garmin tracking systems for prizes and I was told they had70 dogs.

A lot of looooooong time hunters didn't know it was not OK. Why don't UKC just give a test on the rules and anyone that passes gets a GNCH patch. Nite hunts are about like shows anymore. I have watched the same ten dogs come early for the shows over the years and all are now CH, imagine that. Rules that favor the handlers and are in place as revenue builders cheapen up the titles.

I have read the back of scorecard today, I have looked all over the Ukc site for the updated rulebook and all I can find is a 59 page book that says adopted in 2017.

I am one of those guys that would have had a fit if they drove to a tree because in this case I am ignorant of the second edition page 139 rules. I would really like to have those.

The guy that knows the rules is by no way a cheat. Most feel they get cheated because they don’t know the rules. I wish to have some continued education on the revised rules.

But, I may put a lawyer on retainer to interpret all of them lol
