What is the Hottest Bluetick Stud Dog Currently?

Is there one that stands out?

Head and shoulders above the rest?

I'm not talking about wins.

I'm talking about reproducing.

The dog that is throwing the right kind of pups.

Very good question John, unfortunately subject to the human interpretation factor. Not having a common benchmark that cannot be twisted by the interpretation factor leaves the door open when you say "The right kind"

I'm sure you are very aware of this, not trying to hijack you post. i will be interested to follow the responses.

As for your question, I do not have any input that I can offer.

I left it at "the right kind" on purpose.

That varies.

I don't think there really is a dominant stud right now, in the way that Rambo 2 and Chief were.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Tuckers Boomer has great percentage numbers. I'm not real certain there's enough hunters that will travel to get their gyp bred to have anouther Chief or Rambo II. Duane Swofford has Bo and he's produced the best blue male I've hunted with in a long time.

Can you describe what type of dog that "Bama" is please. Congrats again with your young female this past weekend at the Grand American, that's a heck of an accomplishment. Can you describe her too? Thanks

I have hunted blue dogs for 50+ years and I don't recall that there's ever been a hot blue stud dog.
A proven walker might have 500 or 5,000 pups on the ground but it's rare to see a blue dog with 100 pups, it's hard to get the attention of hunters that demand a winner on their leash if you can't get enough pups on the ground to prove a dog is worthy of breeding.

Blue dog people are as unique as their dogs, most of the guys I know are to kennel blind to breed outside of the bloodline that they're currently hunting. It makes the breeding pool very small.

i can only reply on what i have hunted with and it's not a big pool.
smokey- good looking, loud dogs, pretty good tree dogs, hunted with probably 15 or more and trained several out of different females. not sure there will be many more pups from him.
i have a jet 9 female and male off two different females. i'm happy with the results so far. they are still young at 1 1/2 an 6 months old.just my personal opinion but jet 9 may not be getting enough credit for his reproducing ability.

i also bred a female to leon with nice results.

I realize that guys get kennel blind. But I think if there was a bone collector in a blue hide you'd see more guys breeding to him. But as stated above the nonstick guys are fickle. No rhyme or reason for a lot that's done.

. Nope... As a whole, once someone believes in a bloodline, you will rarely see any outcrosses. Even though you see dogs winning, and the pedigree on both sides are different, and no matter how much certain bloodlines crosses well with other bloodlines.. many will pick it apart. Kennel blind. You mentioned Bone Collector... That is why, for the most part, Walker people will win and we just hope to win,. That is why I own females only. I own every stud in the United States.... IMO

Right now I have seen what I like out of GRCH Hagerman's Smokin blue Jake. He is owned by greg Hagerman in West Virginia. I like houndy looks, cold nose, big mouth, and a lot of drive. He seems to be putting that into his offspring.

There

Has been several blue studs with 200 or more pups. I had 3 rags scar and Albert at the same time that all had around 180 each in a short time. I'd say hawk scout and hornet all had over 500 I'd guess hawk several more than that. I'm sure there are several others these are just some I'm familiar with.

Doctor Death II aka Hoss

Ole Hoss is a coon dog! I agree Kevin, that sucker is one of the nicest blue males I have ever followed. The jury is still out on his reproducing ability, but Mikes got a youngster out of Hoss right now that doesn't act too hateful for a 6 month old pup. I would love to see several more good blue females bred to him.

I can understand your thinking Voyd, I have been searching for a male bluetick that I like. I have been looking for the last 5 years or so and have come up with a short list of dogs that caught my eye. There has been only 3 or 4 that got me interested enough to want to hunt something off them and Out of the 4 only one male has even had a litter of pups hit the ground. So for me it has been tough. If I decide I like one of them enough to raise a pup I will have to find the right female and breed her myself because the dogs I liked best aren't getting bred to. That is a another subject in itself that I dont wont to get started on but there is not near enough quality blue females out there getting bred. IMO the blueticks are in a shortage of top FEMALES or top dogs in general really. If this wasnt such a problem I think we would have better young dogs to work with. Anyhow it makes it a gamble for me as far as reproducing goes because the best males I have been in the woods with have little to no puppies on the ground to go off of. And they probably wont ever get the opportunity to show if they can pass their traits on down the line because like you said bluetickers are finicky when it comes to a set of papers and certain bloodlines. The males I seen do their job well; are bred well IMO but apparently not out of the right lines or right dogs that get blown up in places like this online forum.

Makes me wonder sometimes how little thought must go into picking a stud dog for these females. Some guys I seen dont even start looking into the traits of the stud until its too late and they are wondering why their pups wont go hunting or this an that n another. IMO by that time its a little too late.
