Track Dog(s)

Where are the dogs at that hunt hard and are LOOKING a TRACK to RUN? I don't care if they are big named dogs that have won all over or if they are tied up behind a barn somewhere. I just want to know if they exist and if they do what's the chance that they reproduce their likeness? Independence and fancy tree dog is just a bonus in this search. The other is what I am interested in and what it takes to enjoy coon hunting in my neck of the country. Let's keep it clean and informative as possible.

Hounds

I have a female that is out of zeb x honey. Have a young male from Jobe x Sara Sue, they are nice track dogs, they are also too different style of track dogs

How do they differ?

I've hunted with Zeb, Honey, Jobe,and a bunch of their ancestors.

I would expect the Zeb dog tobe the faster of the two.

Zeb could fly.

The female out of Zeb is faster, also a real nice lay up hound. She opens according to the track, tighter on cold tracks, a little more open on hotter ones. She is really accurate

The young male out of Jobe seems to open quicker, runs with his head up. Watching the garmin he will over run a track sometimes & have to back up to pick it back up, once he matures & gets more experience he may end up being faster than her. He likes to run into the wind, maybe it's more of a difference in hunting style rather than a tracking thing.

Good deal man keep us updated on her! I'm sure thinking hard on my next cross on my Juicy female. It will be a dog that's throwing track minded, track hustlers that will tree. I will share my list tentatively:

Dual Grand Garners Bawling Blue Hank
Dual Grand Uchtmans Foggy Mtn Blaze
Smokey River Chief Geronimo
Mountain Music Blue (Cache)

Possibly more out of Gary Uchtmans line, I'm still doing homework.

Track speed

Sure is hard to get any better than what Mr. Corey Mailes from Seneca Missouri has been producing for years. But that's just my opinion. Which doesn't mean squat. I've been around and hunted with some of the so called best and I've yet to see anything any better. Good luck to you and keep us posted if you find what you're looking for.

The Appel dogs seem to be some hard hunting SOBs. They seem to go as far as they need to to find a track.. Tons of drive

What are some of the males today that are reproducing that from Mr. Corey's line?

Should of been using this blood 15 to 20 years ago. May have missed out on the real deal. Cory had Pete & Bob that were reproducers and not bred to many top females. Rattler is getting old and reproduced some nice hounds. Rudy Sue was the foundation of Cory's hounds. However, his old Sue female, mother to Rudy was a nice female also. Rudy wasn't a blow up treedog but a super track dog.

Jason, that is the style of dogs that I have been trying to breed for 30 years...And sometimes, I think I am making progress. In my opinion, we have gone to far to the hotter nosed, independent, get treed quick dogs that can win hunts. If a dog is looking to get treed, he's not genuinely trying to catch on the ground. But what the heck do I know, I would still rather hunt cats and lions than coons.

I've been doing some research on John Ray bred blues. And from what I've gathered is they aren't geared for Coon. But you could use them on Coon. They're geared for more running big game, that have cold noses, run to catch.

Not sure if being purebred is important to you or not. But those blues aren't.

Corey's Rattler dog is his current stud. Idk for sure how old he is but I do know he's not getting any younger. The Bo Diddly dog is out of Rattler. Idk if he's going to reproduce or not. But hopefully we will find out.

I hunted with the Bob dog bred my female to him he was a coon dog! As good as any mans dog. I kept a male and a female still have the male grand nite champion Blaylocks Cache Creek Chief. If Rattler is anything like Bob he is a coon dog. JMO

I tried calling Mr. Corey yesterday and left him a message. I really want to make a cross that produces track minded, powerhouse track dogs, that stay out of trouble and will pull the trigger better than not at the end of the track. They don't have to be WOW treedogs by no means just good change over and steady. What good is all that track power if it takes them a while to choose a tree and settle. Can you have both? I sure hope so. I don't THINK that is too much to ask for. I don't know if that will win big or not but I know that is what it's going to take in the woods I hunt every night for me to enjoy hunting.
