World hunt judging poll.

What would everyone think about having hunting judges in the early round on Thursday. Your best judges are there hunting. At least then every handler has a vote. The way it is now it's one mans opinion right or wrong it's his way. Then have non hunting in the other rounds.

People are constantly on here talking about how corrupt the judges are, so why would anyone want a hunting judge. It would be a conflict of interest I would think. I know that if I were hunting, I wouldn't want to judge and have someone else try to call my integrity into question.

At least then it's up to a cast vote. I've hunted all over the country in 4 registries. I've only had a few bad judges. The problem isn't that rampant when your using hunting judges as it seems on the boards. Most of the time when someone feels they got cheated it's because they didn't understand the rules.

I prefer non hunting judges at that point but would like to see a rule majority of the cast must see the coon or the judge and 2 cast members.

I like to think UKC does their level best to find qualified judges. I also hope someone wouldn't missuse that trust that UKC and everyone entered in that event put in them. I am confident that if there is any wrong doing Allen and crew will do their best to address it. I like the idea of non hunting judges at events of that level. JMO

Kinda what I was thinking as a way to resolve future disputes. Majority rules. If a non hunting judge and the handler of a dog in question see the coon, surely at least 1 of the 3 remaining handlers would be honest enough to admit seeing it if it's there. Hopefully all of them. If it's not there, then 3 cast members would over ride a bad judge.

I'm saying this purely hypothetical. It would be unfair of me to publicly accuse the cast in question without more information. Majority rules wouldn't be fool proof either, but unless the majority of people are more dishonest than I think, it would have to be better than giving total power to a single person in every cast and expecting all those single people to always be 100% when stakes are high.

My opinion, but just thinking out loud. It doesn't mean much.

Out of 26 cast on Thursday night there was only two actual questions that needed answered. The rest were "straw grabbers". I think the percentage would be much higher with hunting judges.
This is my 3rd year in a row either in a cast or judging at the finals and I personally have never had any majors issues in any cast.

Final cast should have three judges for this event!!!

UKC just has ta do a better job of picking there non-hunting judges at this point .
"IF" if what is being accused of actually happened.
"IF" it didn't happen then all this internet competition hunting is
a waste of time.
Now 3 judges is an excellent idea !!!

Posted by richard turner on 09-26-2016 02:25 AM:

How about let Alan and crew get out there and judge em and you won't have to worry about it

Agreed spend a little more money and bring the best judges in. What's being accused did happen.

No thanks Jack. A cast vote is certainly not a democracy. Not when friends draw friends, or Hawkeyes draw Hawkeyes.

I say infrared lights or night vision (whichever is easier to see its a coon) and take a picture for proof. If the judge has night vision and allows cast to see it as well then there would be no argument of a possum and coon sharing a tree. You see the spot on the camera then you shine it to see what it is.

I agree with this. Now where to come up with the money for 30 of these units and then 25 people that would know how to use them. Raise the entry fee to $500?

Posted by Ryan J on 09-26-2016 02:44 PM:

I don't agree. I guided 2 rounds of the zones if I had to pick 1 of the 8 guys I guided to judge I would be screwed. Nonhunting judgeing should start at the zones then forward. Mistakes are made everyday by everyone but no way would I take the non hunting judges away I would improve them by classes or something to make this hunt improve.
By the way this is a coon hunt. Not a war or a video game. We can use our trackers now to hunt. We don't need night vision to find coons.

If you in a 4 dog cast and 3 dogs are on the tree and yours isn't and the tree is big as your wrist and not a leaf on it . They vote circle ..... Ha I'll take my chances with non hunting judge .

I don't competition hunt so this simple solution may not work for you guys. Wouldn't it be easy for the judge to carry binoculars in the last four casts and anyone who thinks that he has found hair has the right to use the binocs to confirm. Every cast member and judge would then be required to use them also after coon OR possum has been spotted. That would eliminate most of the "bad eyes" problems. JMO

why? only have one judge in other rounds. We do send out a back up judge. questions can always be taken back to MOH. no reason to change anything for the final cast that wasn't in place for the rest. Rules are the same, so play the game.

Wouldn't it be better to have a hunt, of this caliber, when the leaves are OFF the trees???? Wouldn't that solve some of the issues, with the system as it is?

So how about a panel I sure would put up money to have other people come out and see the question I bet u would not have this problem if we would hold people accountable for stuff
