Track Dogs
I want to get some opinions on who you guys think are the best track dogs alive today in our breed. The dogs out there that can run any track that comes their way, cold, hot, short, long, whatever a coon lays down. It can be male or female, but if you could supply an answer with a detailed description and maybe a pedigree (or at least a general idea of their breeding) to go along with it, that would be great!
Always on a quest for knowledge Just curious to see what people think.
PS I am putting emphasis on the word ALIVE.
Thanks in advance!

Rabble....Haze.......Boone.....all you have to add is a little tree. Now where do we go from here?
My Billy dog is one of the best track dogs I've ever seen. He worked a bad track pretty quick and left a lot of dogs behind. They'd be picking at it while he was running it. He's still alive but he's 11 now. His dad was out of the Rat x Raven cross and was a great dog. His mom was out of my old Sallee/Outlaw female and a Rat son. I'm lucky, I have the luxury of running cats in the winter. Good way to evaluate what a guy really has for track dogs. When you watch dogs grind and pound the dirt for 10 miles on a crappy melted out track and have to be caught at dark instead of quitting it's a pretty good indication that you have decent track dogs.

T-Top dogs have always been well above average track dogs. I've had several that can put a coon at the end of a really tough track in the middle of January.

I would tend to agree with that Pastor Mike, a lot of the T-Top dogs I've seen go I would rate as above average track dogs. I owned a double grandson to Rabble that could straight boogy on cold winter nights and treed a lot of coon with him even into January/February. He certainly shined in the snow, that was for sure.

Corey, we have a female that is T-Top bred (Lexus x Rowdy). I guess that is T-Top, Mike? She is a bear dog. She can cold trail and work a track and make it move. She has been a top trail dog her entire life. At age 8 she is still in top shape and has a heck of a nose and track ability.
I think this is a common trait in this line of hounds.

That makes sense too. I know that our Hope and Jake dogs we had were grand pups to Lexus and some of the best track dogs I had ever had the privilege to own anyway. Good lay-up dogs too. Most of the Rowdy dogs I've hunted with had pretty good noses on them too. That's a large reason why I bred to Busko when I did.

My Sage female is out of Lexus x Sandy Creek Jake and she's a good track dog too. All my dogs go back to Billy and Sage and have a lot of T-top blood. It works. Seems a lot of the stuff that goes back to Go Man Sam has decent noses.

Corey, I hate to agree with the King of the Cowboys but he is probably right. If you ask any of the Oldtimers, they will tell you that you could get all of the track you wanted from Hoffmeister's Rusty Red lines. They would then outcross to get some tree. It worked for them by adding Zack or Ace or Chief blood. If you will look at the T-Top dogs being mentioned you will find that is what happened. In more recent times, look at the B III X Heidi cross or the Steve-O X Chilli cross. They used Rusty Red blood and crossed it with Fireball blood to add a little tree. But these are just a couple of examples that I am familiar with. I am sure there are several more out there if anyone will share them with you.

Dual Grand Nite Champion Ky Moonlight Woody is at the top of my list for track dogs who take whatever track they come to and move it with speed and purpose. I have seen him trail coon right through other dogs of known high caliber and them act like they could barely smell it.

I've heard that from several others too. One in particular that said he was the best track dog he ever laid eyes on!

Where is the Fiddler? Were/are the Sawblade dogs known to be good/excellant track dogs? I don't have very much, if any, experience with them.
Well, GRNTCH Hope and GRNTCH LNL Jake were both grand babies to Fiddle... Woody is a grand baby to Fiddle... Kelly's Truck dog is an EXCELLENT track dog, and he was a full brother to Hope and Jake. That's a good start in saying that they are I suppose lol

What about the Ranger dog? Did he contribute to Woody's tracking ability or did that come from the Fiddle stuff?

I didn't start hunting Aftershock till he was almost 6 and I think Woody had a little colder nose...but Shock was one of the fastest track dogs on most tracks I have seen in the redbone breed. He could take a track away from most dogs in a cast and have the tree located well before the others got there. I saw him catch several on the ground in corn fields and swamps also.
