Darkness has set in at Flora! It's time for the Final Cast of the World Championship!
It's 7:50 local time and the cast has just rolled out. They'll have a 25 minute ride to their spot so we have a little time to get things around and ready for, what we hope will be an exciting cast to watch as it unfolds.
Interesting cast. Two Black & Tans up against two Walkers. Two males against two females.
NITECH Ead's Big Slick is a 5 year old male owned and handled by Darrel Eads of Pleasant Plains, Ohio. For those who know him, Darrel has been a mess all day but he's trying to hold it together one more time.
GRNITECH Bad Company Ridein Solo is a 5 year old Black & Tan male owned by Lucas Barkman, Tommy Vance and Blaine Vance of Davin, WV. Blaine is handling. He's been on a winning streak this year and Blaine is hoping he can continue the trend tonight.
GRNITECH Goose Creek Lil Shining Star is a 4 year old Treeing Walker female owned by Roger Pigg of Mt Vernon, KY. Joe Caudill is handling her, as he has since April. At 4 years old she is the youngest hound in the cast but, according to Joe, as seasoned and ready as any of them.
GRNITECH Esteppe's Bean Creek Pepper is a 6 year old Treeing Walker female owned by Lou and Ryan Esteppe of Potomac, IL. She is being handled by Lou's grandson Lane who, at 20 years of age, is probably the least experienced handler. Nonetheless, Lane seems to not be bothered by the pressure and has kept his composure well all day. He's excited about the opportunity to win this hunt and has a load of supporters here at the Clay County Fairgrounds rooting him on.
The weather is perfect. Cloudy and 66 right now. Great night for a coonhunt!
Stay tuned for the first report.
Irvin Hochstetler is the lead judge tonight with Paul Frederick assiting him. Corey Gruver is calling in the pbp.
Shouldn't be much longer. The judges met with the handlers before they left the grounds so once they get there they should be set to turn 'em loose!
Report!
They have arrived and dogs are out. Here we go!
Clock is on! 8:30 and they are off!
Slick .... strike him! 100
Pepper for 75, followed by Star 50 and Solo 25! Red hot track says Corey.
Tree PEPPER! 125
BP (Slick) for 75 and Solo 50!
Good job
Good luck guys
Star is trailing nearby. The three hounds are telling the world!
The cast is easing in..... Tree Star for a quarter! All dogs now treed.
The dogs treed 60 yards in front of the handlers. No time wasted getting to them. Dogs are already handled.
Wow.. that was quick!
Lane wants the first two minutes.....
Lane now says "everyone can shine" Squallers are out.
Corey says they are on the edge of the woods and should be able to shine this tree fairly easily.
Uh, oh.... Corey says this tree is looking a little "iffy".
Uh, oh is right...... not much to look at and the judge says "minus". All dogs minused.
A couple handlers are questioning the call and debating their might be a hole big enough for a coon to get in. Judge says no and sticking to his call.
Cast is being led away from the tree.
Cut 'em again! They moved out quickly but quiet as a church mouse.
Bawl from Pepper..... Strike her for 100!
Star struck fir 75, left-handed from Pepper.
Tree Star! 125. Another quicky.
BP is on the card with a line under his 50 strike. And.. Solo for 25..
Now Vance and Eads are collaborating on a strategy to win for team B&T!
