Coonhound Bloodlines Bluetick Issue?????

Is it me or does anyone else out there feel like the Bluetick Special Issue was weak or anemic???? I mean, if you count them, there were 18 full age ads directly related to Bluetick studs, kennels, puppies, hunts or breed organizations. There were also 49 full pages of ads not really directly related to Blueticks but in there this month. Now maybe some of those advertisers chose to run all these unrelated ads this particular month because of the Bluetick following and maybe not.
My point being, all we got back in return for all this advertising was five measley pages about Blueticks. Two articles, a two page one and a three including photos.....Is there a limit to the number of pages a single issue of "Coonhound Bloodlines" can contain???? Did we do this to ourselves because of all the ads?????

Come on U.K.C. get with the program. 5 pages??? 5 measely pages, that's it????? That's all we get????? Who is the person or persons responsible for such a poor showing in your magazine and thought 5 pages would do it????? I would think that in return for 67 full pages of paid advertisement we would get back a little more substance than this. It's pathetic.

I'll echo those words that U.K.C. always says to hunt clubs when they mess up or otherwise perform poorly when putting on a hunt: "If you continue to do things this way do not be surprised if attendance {subscribers in this case} falls off."

I haven't went back and checked to see if any of the other breeds Special Issues were this bad, I really don't have time but I suspect there are probably those that feel a little short changed as well.

Your barking up the wrong tree. Nothing has changed but the lack of blue stud owners buying advertisements in the issue. It has been a trend going in for awhile an I'm sure the internet plays a big part in that trend

Plott issue had 138 pgs, walker issue had 194 pgs, Winter Classic issue had 146 pgs, black and tan issue had 146 pgs, bluetick issue had 170 pgs. Maybe there just wasn't as much "news" about the blueticks? Is the problem with UKC/Bloodlines Mag or the bluetick breed? Is it UKC's responsibility or the different individual breeds to generate more pages/coverage?

everybody is on the computer !!!! LOL Which brings up the question. How long will advertising in the classifieds on this website be free ?

I did just see Russ Downing and a bluetick on the front page of the website.
Almost all the latest news and ads are on the website now. But you can only get to read "articles" in the mag.

Coonhunter I know worked as a print machine operator for 30 years and got layed off. He is 59 and now works on the line making new fords.

Have you seen the price they want for a full pg ad?

There doesn't seem to be near the stories that they use to have in them.

Exactly my point!!! It's not about a breed generating news. There is plenty to write about that could help make the magazine a better, more informative one. The price goes up, that is understood...but why doesn't the content???? Things like this are the reason why many people repeat the old "U.K.C. is all about the money" thing. It's strange because that same "all about the money" thing definitely generates some animosity from some of the folks at U.K.C.
Well, here's a good example of what they could do about it...put some more substance in the magazine.

Well, seeing as how it's U.K.C.'s magazine and not the individual breeds....who should do the generating???? What are you advocating as an alternate plan of action??? The breed associations do a hostile takeover and write the magazine each month????
It's not about the news each breed generates...U.K.C. asked on the breeds section who we would like to see in their "Special Issues"...I am pretty sure there were more than two suggestions there.

Posted by Richard Lambert on 05-16-2015 06:52 PM:

Breed Associations or individuals could write articles and submit them to the magazine for inclusion. As it is now there is very liitle in the articles submitted each month by the Breed Associations to be put in the back of each issue under Association News. I wonder if UKC Editor turns down articles submitted or just no one submits them? And surely it is "all about the money". UKC is a for profit business. They are not a charity.

Individuals cannot submit articles...well actually they can, until they are blue in the face, but U.K.C. will not publish them. Only breed associations and state organizations are published.

I agree the bloodline bluetick issue not what they used to be,stud ads aside, there was a post on the BLUETICK board asking who we would like to read about there was I believe three pages of replys, what did we get two short articles.
I asked before renewing my subscripton if the weak acrticle and overall shrinking size of the book was a trend, they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about.
Being from Canada we have to pay higher subscription prices add our 30 percent exchange on the dollar and it comes out to about $58. a year for that I sure would like more articles and stories.

There were two bluetick articles on Mitch mueller an Danny glista. Then a one page story from a bluetickers about a hunt one night. Then your usual articles from guy an Dave that are in every issue. The difference is going to b on the number if ads imo

I give up, I was just guessing because of Ron t being the final cast 08 I think

Now if you really want something to fuss about just pick up the April issue of American Cooner and go to Steve Fielders interview of UKC's new president. You can go directly to page 21, bottom inside paragraph and top right paragraph. Let me know what you think of that.

Can't believe no one has checked this out without a reply. Enjoy your book while you can.
If it wasn't for Guy Ormistonn and Sam Buff I probably wouldn't have renewed the last time. I enjoy reading informative stories and I agree with Guy's way of breeding and his way of telling stories and getting his points across.

My subscription to AC ran out in March I guess...they haven't sent me one since anyway. Can you give us non-subscribers a hint at what you are talking about???? Thanks.

Posted by msinc on 05-19-2015 12:40 PM:

Wow, found an April issue...so what I suggested might happen in this thread already has!!! And they decided to announce it in another magazine...unless I missed it in "Bloodlines."
Well UKC's new president asked for input regarding a digital version of "Bloodlines" so here's mine....if you cant do any better than this, why not just call the whole thing off????

Posted by yadkinriver on 05-19-2015 12:41 PM:

Steves interview of Tanya Raab
Tanya: The decision to no longer publish the Bloodlines magazine was not an easy one, but a declining subscription base made it a necessary businesws decision. Additionally, at the point this decision was made, a vast majority of the content of Bloodlines was being posted on our website. This transition has allowed for more up to date information for our exhibitors.
In reguards to the fiture of Coonhound Bloodlines and Hunting Retriever, I believe they will continue to exist, however, we are currently working through research on more advanced technology. I can see offering digital versions of these publications in the future. With that said, I would welcome input from those who currently subscribe to the print version of CB to get their views on the digital version.

She does state later that her personal opinion is that print will never be totally eliminated. If they keep removing things from it looks like it will eliminate itself.

Posted by msinc on 05-19-2015 12:56 PM:

Yep, those three words..."declining subscription base"

Posted by RLenhart on 05-19-2015 01:27 PM:

The only mag I've gotten for the past couple years is AC and I can tell you it's not really any better the only reason I stick with it is because it has a little bit on ALL the registries. I actually wonder sometimes why I even bother with it all I find myself doing anymore is flipping through it for a couple days looking at the pictures and maybe reading one or two articles that caught my eye. I spend way more time reading this board and if I want to know where the hunts are the web site is the easiest place to get that.
