Giving a dog water in a hunt?
Can you give a dog a drink out of your water bottle at the tree during shine tim according to the rules? Would love for UKC to rule on this. THANKS
I have heard people say, "that dog could drink out of a coke bottle", but I have never seen one actually do it.
I have read the rule book several times and I have never seen a rule that says that you are not allowed to give your dog a drink during hunt time.

100% allowed. There is no rule against it. I give mine Gatorade or Pedialyte to keep electrolytes up. Only an a$$ hat would have a problem with it.

Well as a dog gets a bit older I worry about them more and when I cut her lose she not looking for a drink.
I have a dog no matter how hot it is or how dead tired she is she won't drink in the woods or once you get back to the truck I between drops don't know if her mind is just on hunting or what she will drink once she gets home
Do dogs have to be handled to water them???

Watering your hound.
This is easy folks. If you've got your dog leashed/handled... Drink up.

"For the record, UKC defines “handling” as verbally calling the dog struck and treed. Physically handling a dog may be done by the handler or anyone else in the cast, if needed."
Here is my opinion. As long as dog has not been declared struck then dog can be called in to drink some water. The only possible way to rule against this is if you take to long then judge may put 15 minutes on the dog for not hunting.
Water
I got scratched one night for giving my dog a drink of water. judge said I was giving aid to a dog. No lie true story.

I have made it a practice to offer my dogs a drink of water each time I load them. Our dogs are so spoiled, they won't drink unless the water is fresh.
In the summer I carry more water than I need, and I always offer some to the other handlers for their dogs.

I was just intersested in splashing him a drink before I walked away from the tree. I would never let him stop by the cast to get a drink.
Mark
I do it all the time in hot summer nights. Use water bottle with pull top to give them a squirt when leaving a tree. Anyone that has a problem with that don't have much common sense or sportsmanship if they are going to complain. Take care, Ron.
How bad are UKC rules and how they are interpreted that this question even got asked? What person or organization would penalize you for watering your dog? And to the person that got scratched for it, If you didn't drag the whole cast back to the MH, then you might just as well mail in your 20 bucks.
I Carrie a small bottle of water on me and a zip lock Baggie in my back pocket (makes a good bowl) had a dog get up in a beaver hole in August when I got him out the water is the only thing that saved him he was hot !
