Know we take a few a year off there but not 4 in one night guys you don't go to people's spots and wipe them out. I know there is still coons there but I'm sure they'll be back and now his buddies will bring buddies. Just my opinion.

he would walk home the next time I saw him in there if it was my hunting spot.

I've seen guys do it all the time. People have no respect anymore. What part of Kentucky is this?

Posted by Fisher13 on 02-07-2015 04:04 AM:

That's norm around here, unfortunately.. just gotta find some new ones. That's half the battle any more having the best spots to hunt.

I had it happen with deer hunting. I hunted a farm for years, my buddy didn't have a place to hunt, so I took him out there. Next thing I know, his whole family is hunting there. They talked the owner into putting a lease on it. They had the balls to ask if I wanted to get on the lease with them. I told em all what I thought about the deal, I got pretty heated. They couldn't understand why I was upset. It sucks, but happens all the time

Posted by Preston Chadwell on 02-07-2015 04:43 AM:

I've got a hunting buddy that's mad at me right now for something he considers to be the same thing you're talking about. I went door to door this summer asking landowners for permission to hunt their property. Well I guess my buddy did too. We didn't hunt together because of his job until last week and I told him about this great place I just got permission to hunt so I took him to it that night. Well, when we pull up he starts throwing a fit because I'm hunting "His spot". I had absolutely no clue and now I've lost a hunting buddy. It sucks

That fu**en sucks man, he don't even have a dog......I'd lay some spikes out on a night I knew he'd be out there.....normally spiked tires keep people out at least tweakers trying to steal **** off the pump stations

Some you can not trust.

Who needs a enemy when you have a Friend like that! I don't know about these meat hunts but I sure there was money there some were. To see which coon out of 4 was to wt. the most. Am I right?

Posted by GLANCY'S 7 MILE on 02-07-2015 08:47 AM:

Our biggest problem is guys from other counties coming in and killing coons YEAR ROUND. They turn out anywhere and everywhere. They have no respect for us local hunters or the landowners. They drive on people, cut fences, and kill every coon they tree. For example: 1 summer night I was hunting by myself I pulled in to a buddies corn field to find 3 trucks, all from the same place. I stopped and heard their dogs treed, they were treed right by the road, then bang bang, bang! I then drove off, turned loose at a spot I don't hunt much, never got a bark. So I headed to a feeder to cut a pup loose and they were their. 1 parked in the only pull off spot, 1 in the road, and the other 1 was parked against the fence, nearly tearing it down. Out of the 3 trucks, came 9 hunters, and 6 dogs, with 3 dead coons in the back of one. Kind of mad plus knowing only a handful of people have permission to hunt their I rolled my window down and asked what's going on. Only to be lied to, telling me they go to church with the owners of this land whom have been dead for over a decade. Long story short with out much trouble they left, but I've seen those same vehicles several other nights hunting spots I know they don't have permission to hunt. Some people just have not respect for others or this sport. I could get mad and I do get frustrated from time to time, but it don't do no good as it's nearly impossible to stop.

sounds like to me if he called and got permission it was his spot if he didn't own a dog well it is what it is.

Posted by hillbilly56 on 02-07-2015 02:57 PM:

you never take nobody to your good spots cause 9 outa 10 times thier going back and kill every coon they tree i only hunt with 1 buddy of mine he only goes to my spots when he's with me and i do the same with him but we are the older gen and respect each other

Posted by shadinc on 02-07-2015 03:13 PM:

This is nothing new. About fifty years ago I was hunting alone with my old black and tan. I had just found the coon in the tree when three men walked up. They were "spotlighting" coons. They didn't have a dog. One of them shot the coon, picked it up and left. Never said a word.

Posted by River Birch Run on 02-07-2015 03:37 PM:

Thats why I hunt alone, and when I guide for major events I never take a cast to my honey holes unless they are all from out of state. I won't guide for a club 15 min from my house cause its all locals and they beg me to guide just to snipe my spots. I just tell them I won't enter a dog if I have to guide. If it's all out of towners that I know well from going to there clubs I will. The guys kinda think im a jerk because of it, but I don't care good timber is hard to find around here, and I work hard and spend a lot of time going door to door to get permission. It's bad enough watching all the locals that hunt your spots without permission. The hunt anywhere they see other people hunt. I guss they figure if someone else has permission so do they.

Have permission where you go. Few years ago I went hunting with this guy and his "powerhouse" dog. Wound up a truck pulled up and the land owner was mad as heck. All the stuttering I thought that the guy who took me there was handicapped.. LOL turns out the land owner was my cousin so I let the stuttering keep on until he seen me... Told him he had permission, he didn't but my cousin said I did...to call him if I know he ever goes back. So just make sure you know who your hunting with.

I started a thing at the club I used to be president at . It was a big sign in the clubhouse saying this : If anyone gets caught trying to hunt the place he/she is guided from this club . They will be barred from this club !

Just read this thread and you will see why a national organization will not work, coonhunters can't get along.
People go back on land with no permission, lie to one another,it is sad.jmo.......

Best thing to do is get written permission, trust who you hunt with, and go out too enjoy the sport, not to look for trouble, a good attitude goes a long way.

Correct. I have hunting spots, others have hunting spots. Sometimes they over lap. Sometimes a guy wants to back door you. That's fine. In my life I must admit that somewhere along the line I have dropped out were someone took me. Someone has dropped out were I took them. IF YOU DONT PAY TAXES ON THE GROUND IT AINT YOUR SPOT. ITS FREE TO ANYONE THAT WANTS TO KNOCK ON THE DOOR AND ASK.

BOTTOM LINE OF MIKE,GO OUT AND ENJOY THE SPORT.

Getting all riled up is useless. Coon dogs cause more unwanted grief than anything else. They don't help our lifestyle, they don't provide for our family, etc. They just something we like Lots good friends been lost over a dog. Hard feelings over a hunting spot, etc. Well I am here first hand to say it ain't worth it.

Guys

Will back door ya all the time on hunting spots.. One of our reasons for hunting alone. Don't want or need bad feelings over a sport I enjoy so much.

Call me what you want but every body that knows me will tell u and ill tell u before we set out DO NOT take me to a spot u dont want hunted cause while your sitting at home makeing excuses on why u cant go im gonna be hunting and im subject to go to that spot. Had a guy take me to a spot when i first moved here that i ask numerous times to show me some hunting spots i could hunt. Everybody knowed i dont even carry a rifle during season i just run my dogs and they still wouldnt take me. One night they finnaly decide to go hunting after their dog layed on the chain for 2-3 weeks and we went to this place. Well the next night i called and ask if he wanted to go hunting? Naw im gonna stay in tonight so i said alright. Went down their and cut my dog. He got deep and got treed. When i was going into him i seen a light and could hear another dog boo hoo around. Got to the tree and it was his buddy. He ask if i knowed whos land i was on and i told him i didnt have a clue and i doubt my dog did either. He said the paper mill owned it and didnt want NOBODY in their. So i pulled my puo off the tree and ask well what are u doing here then and recut my dog. Its nice if u own alot of land but if u dont have a deed to it and somebody else gets permission then all u can do is hope their like me and dont kill your coons.

Its makes it even more special when it's your dad, and nephew that does it to ya, and I am not talking 4 a night, i am talking 4 a night all week until they are gone, all gone. "Training a pup", grade pup at that and then quit hunting the rest of the yr, coons ain't moving any more. Get rid of the dog cause it didn't make it. I am guessing most of the coons were spotted. That's been many moons ago that this happened but it happened. I don't hunt with them anymore.
