How much are pups worth?

I got a gyp that is coming due to have pups out of Trackman, and I plan on keeping some of the pups. She is all grand pedigree, two wins toward grand, and four wins toward grand show. I am not taking reservations because I am not a breeder I made this cross for me. With that said if I do sell a few I have no idea what kind of $ to sell them for! His stud fee is $1000, and she is a pretty nice coondog.

How much do you think there worth?

what ever you can get somebody to pay!!! i aint paying over $400 for a pup and its got to be paid up in ukc pp and pkc ss. not every pup makes a coon dog. its like a $400 lottery ticket.

LOL

Three hundred seems a lot cheap for this kind of breeding or I could be wrong, but I did ask. I will grand this gyp out both ways, but I want something to hit the hunts with when I do. I know papers don't tree coons, but it doesn't hurt to start with as well bred pup as you can get. I thought that was the whole point to having a registered dog, or better yet an all grand dog. Yes, I do understand that they are not all grand yet. I just always thought people would pay more for a better foundation to start with. That's why I spent the time and money to go to one of the greatest reproducers in the history of the breed, because that's what I wanted to start with. Thanks for all the input fellas!

Your SERIOUS hunters will pay for a nice pup , seems like you are going to have a dandy litter! I also figured any one pup was worth the price of the stud fee. Thats my opinion . Timothy ball sold em like hot cakes for 1000 a pup and up. Look over on the other kc forum and see how many pups you see for 400-700 dollars and see how fast most book! There's a market for those kinda pups. I don't know anything about your gyp, but you said she's a nice hound. You should have no trouble moving them, and I'd guarantee almost all those high priced pups get a fair shot too, no they don't all make it, but I like my odds a lot better off proven reproducers and winners! Best of luck to you bud!

It cost's a lot to raise a litter of pups! Brucellosis Test, Vet Visit, Stud Fee, Gas Money, Feed, Wormer, Shots, Registration Fee's, DNA Fee's, Performance Program Fee's, Super Stake's Fee's, etc. etc. All that adds up pretty quick. When choosing a price, price them at a rate that you would fell comfortable with, if you were buying one. Best of luck selling your pups!!

Personally I think Trackmans stud fee is rediculous and Curt is in it strictly for the $$.

I'd much rather pay a few more dollars and buy a young started dog and see what I'm getting than waste big $$ on an 8 week old pup that may or may not turn out regardless of the breeding.

300 to 400 or.

Performance and SS for sure. Sell them for $300- $400, that should help you cover your expenses.
Or give them to the best hunters that you know of, that know how to start, hunt and train a pup, that will then competition hunt them.
If all goes well, in 2 years make the same cross again and sell those pups for $800.

THEN THERES THE PUPS THAT THIS POST IS ABOUT ,,A $1000.00 STUD FEE IS WHAT SOME GUYS ARE GETING OUT OF SOME OF THE OLE HOUNDS THAT THREW GOOD PUPS. THATS A LOT OF MONEY FOR A BREEDING. ITS A CRAP SHOOT WHAT EVER YA PAY FOR A STUD FEE TO GET YOUR FEMALES BRED YOU CAN GET JUST AS GOOD A PUPS OUT OF A $300.00 STUD FEE DOG . ITS WHAT A PERSON WANTS .IS WHAT WILL DEPEND ON HOW MANY THAT YOU SELL.IM SURE YOU COULD PUT A BIG PRICE ON THESE PUPS WERE TALKIN ABOUT HERE.I HAVE BEEN HUNTING FOR 45 YEARS AND BOUGHT 2 EXTREMLY PRICED PUPS MORE THAN I REALLY COULD AFFORD AT THE TIME .THEY DIDNT TURN OUT OTHERS IN THE LITTERS DID BUT DIDNT MAKE THAT FANTASIC HOUND THAT YOU WOULD WANT FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY BEING PAID FOR A 8 WEEK OLD PUP I WOULD NEVER PAY OVER $400.0 FOR ANY PUP NO MATTER WHO THERE OUT OF . THE YOUGER GENERATION MIGHT NOT THINK THE WAY I DO AND MAYBE SOME OF YOU OLDER GUYS EITHER ,BUT ITS ALL ABOUT THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.MONEY HAS DONE ITS DAMAGE ON THIS SPORT,,ITS A SPORT NOT A FACTORY OR A DO OR DIE MONEY MAKIN THING ,THE MONEY MAKIN PART OF THS COONHUNTIN HAS RUINED A LOT OF FRIENDSHIPS...SO IN A NUT SHELL SO ITS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY TO ME ITS THE FRIEND SHIPS THESE OLE HOUNDS HAVE MADE ME THROUGH THE YEARS SO IF YA WANA PAY BIG BUCKS FOR A PUP ITS WHAT YOU WANT THAT MATTERS,SO IF THAT BIG DOLLAR PUP IS WHAT YOU THINK IS WHAT YA NEED TO SATISFIE AND WIN SPEND IT IT MIGHT JUST BE A GOOD INVESTMENT...HAVE A BLESSED ONE ,,,RON THIS POST OF MINE IS JUST MY OPINION MINE ONLY..IM GETIN OLD AND IM OLD SCHOOL MAYBE EVEN BECOMING A TIGHT WAD IN MY OLD YEARS

I would wait and see how many pups I have. Figure up all of your expenses and price them accordingly. My goal would be to have $0 in my pup.

Posted by Scary Creek on 06-28-2014 01:50 PM:

I think $500 , at least that's what I voted . That's what I would ask anyway . Seems most 1000 dollar stud fee hounds pups sale for 500 . If you look on boards most clean pups were 500 , a lot of top guns pups are going for 500 , 500 to me fits this situation

SOME PUPS MAKE IT AND SOME DO NOT. 300 TO 400 IS ALL I AM PAYING. NOT SAYING THERE NOT WORTH MORE. ALOT OF THINGS TO CONSIDER AND ALOT OF THINGS CAN CO WRONG WITH A PUP.

I ALSO FEEL THAT IF THE PRICE ON PUPS KEEPS GOING UP THEN THE YOUNGER FOLKS WILL NOT BE INTERESTED AND OUR SPORT WILL BE DONE. JMO.

Well I think you get what you pay for. I went and bred mine to him, and yes it cost, but Trackman is old. Its my understanding that this makes people serious about the crosses they make to him.

X 2. You got a nt. Ch. Female with a all grand ped . with wins. If they don't sell for a min.of $500 each I would not sell any. If they were all grand you could get up to $1000 a pup. I say they worth $600 each. Pay a small price now. Or a large one later. They get a year or so old and have wins on them see how much they worth then. These guys buy $250 pups and say a pup is a pup is missing the boat. Buy something out of winners that produce winners and save money in the long run.

!

Ladies and gentleman, lets be realistic, there is no way I

would sell any of these pups for 300-400 dollars. I would

as soon give them to houndsmans whom I know are going

to push my pups than to sell them to every joeblow tire

kicker that just wants a pup they can say is off of

Trackman. I just can't see how that is even an option

really, because if any of you 300 dollar fellas had this

cross, you would want the best price for the pups and to

put them in the best hands possible. I know back in the

day we could buy a pup for a couple of hundred bucks, and

it didn't really matter what the breeding was. I don't think

you can do that in this competition environment we have

set up for ourselves, and still be able to have those super

nice dogs. I know there are exceptions to everything. I still

believe you get what you pay for. I think it justifies the

$1000 stud fee, and 500 to 800 dollar pups. Just for an

example if I pay high money for a pup and its not doing it

by one year old I would give it more time to develop into

something verses the 200 dollar pup that is on my nerves.

I would probably cull the cheaper pup because I have less

money in it. To me its simple economics, the more a

hunter has invested the better chance the pup has of

becoming something.

Not to mention . most buyers that want pups out of a good titled female don't think or don't care about the time and money it took you to finish your female. Vs. A average brood female that someone has nothing in. Also the stud fee you gotta pay. The expenses in traveling to get there. The vet bills. The cost of raising the pups. The cost of papers. Do all that and pay a $1000 stud fee and see what they would want for a pup. There not much money to be made after that. Like someone mentioned if you can get you a pup or 2 and not have nothing in it you did great.

I've been at this a long time. $200.00 will be the most I pay if I ever buy another one. I've said I don't believe I'll ever buy another one because I have just as good or better luck with pups that are given to me.

You're probably right trackmans not getting any younger he probably could get 600 now and 1000
Later I was just stating a bare minimum

I am sorry to hear that. I hope someone gives you the next truck winer/world champion. I just don't think I will every be that lucky, and that's why I believe in a good breeding program for myself.

If you don't get your price for them pups. I would not sell any. Get them to a few guys put the money in them. Get there $100 won and a first place win and see what you can get for them then. Lol. A lot. Maybe not to the cheapies. But to the hard core serious competition hunters. I bet the huge interest is there.
