I didn't think you needed a license to run your dog out of season. But I could be wrong!

You do NOT need a license during the OFF-SEASON to run dogs in the state of Ohio. But.......

"A nonresident may not train, work, or exercise a dog in Ohio at any time if Ohio residents are not permitted to train, work, or exercise dogs in the nonresident’s state"

No it's not wrong,,I've been checked,,and just lucky I had mine,,but I always renew before old ones expire,,and he told me that you have to have both hunting and fur taker.license,,,as far as the night hunts go,,no one needs them because the club is issued a permit,,which covers all that is in the hunt,,for that night only

permit

Our club does not get a permit from state to hold nite hunts! its just a ukc licensed hunt or whatever kc is holding it. ohio don't give hunting permits to the club. because we can work our dogs year round. Hunting and exercise dogs 2 different things! only states that don't allow summer training has to get special permits. I am on the board at our club.

Many in Ohio believe you must have a state hunting license to run dogs year round. The main man Columbus setting the District supervisors and their officers straight on the subject. You do not need to be licensed in Ohio . Anyone who believes different call Dirk Cochran at the State DNR Office . I have argued till I am blue and won't debate it further. I had to have him set our district supervisor straight and I followed up with her today and she is now agreeable. He is bringing this up with every district supervisor at the next meeting . The buck stops with Dirk Cochran. Wildlife officers for years have misinterpreted the ''pursuing game " definition when a hunting implement isn't being used. Common sense should of told everyone that the way the law was interpreted that a person with a low IQ or other learning disabilities can't enjoy listening to hounds.

They really need to figure out and set up and clarify the rules for public land hunting with dogs. I called my local warden he said you need a hunting license and that your not aloud to competition hunt on state land. Seems like every warden has there own opinion on the rules.

Permit for Nite Hunts

Have no clue about Ohio, in WV you have to fill out a paper from the DNR send it in along with $5.00 & they will send you back a paper that will cover anyone attending your UKC hunt, but if you guide to another state it does not cover those groups of hunters

The only place that is closed to Running dogs are State Wildlife Area's, they are closed to dog training from May 1 to Sept 1. That is stated in the Ohio Hunting Laws. My guess it's because these area's have public camping and recreation area's. Ohio Residents can train any place else with permission without a license out of season.
