title chasers !
I have field trialed beagles for 15 yrs. And the beaglers are far more friendlier than coonhunters. It seems like more coon hunter are all for themselves. Win at any cost. No matter what it does to the sport. I have only attended a few ukc nite hunts but each time I left with a sour ttaste by the poor sportsmanship displayed.i guess it's no wonder that participation is down. The beagle guys have fun they laugh joke and cut up carry on. Rarely ever are harsh words exchanged by beaglers but every nite hunt I've attended there have been confrontations or foul words spoken between handlers and judges. Imagine what kind of image is being portrayed to newcomers to the sport. Whether or not you like to admit it. The powers at be need to step in and make changes cause the current system allows too much room for shananigans.

Blanket statements
I have been in a few hunts that a sour taste was left in my mouth. One I won the cast and the sourness was over a mean dog that was being hunted here in Ohio and the owner was well aware of it. The last three casts I have been on one was at Ashland and the other two were at Yale. Great guys and good competitive casts. You can't judge how they all are by a few nights.

It wasn't always this way but unfortunately you're correct. Competition hunting is supposed to be fun but I've gotten to the point that I absolutely hate going. I've lost several cast this year because I tried being fair and honest. I can't bring myself to be cut throat just to get a slip of paper. Good luck to you and remember coonhunting is supposed to be fun.

Pabeagler come on up to mahaffey pa to the clear field county coon hunters club I guarantee we will change your mind and you will go home that night laughing your a$$ off about the great time you've had
Guess what guys and gals? You get some of that every where you go, and it doesn't matter what the sport is.
Hunts are like everything else in life. You get out of it what you put in period.
I actually meet a couple of new fellas whose company I enjoyed very much last year, and i look forward to hunting with them again.
Imagine that!

Like dchartt said come on up and try our club, We follow the rules but no one is out to screw any one and everyone always has a good time. We have yet to have a question on any cast and we hold hunts with 3 different registries. We currently hold UKC, ACHA, and CHKC Hunts.

Here's a news flash! If you are afraid of getting cheated, and aren't having fun, don't GO. It is what it is! Go in with the right attitude, hope your dog does well, and make it a point to have fun no matter what.

There are some great clubs to hunt out of and some not so great. Support the ones that are filled with honest members that are good to hunt with and don't support the ones filled with the.crooks.
I can't attend the other kennel club hunt held within an hour plus of me because I will most likely draw a father and son duo and both will bend, break, and screw you at every opportunity. That's not fun to me.
Know the rules all you want guys but if your hunting with a couple dis-honest people you mise well save yourself the screwing and save yourself the anger and just walk away.
I got beat at an RQE worse then I have ever lost a cast this past weekend but I still had a good time because the winner did it the honest way. The rules are intended the help the best dog win but it takes honest hunters and ones with sportsmanship to make sure the rules are followed.

Thats funny
I agree if you dont like it dont go. Funny thing around here we have a local beagle club, those guys are always fighting, pointing fingers, accusing judges of favoring their friends. I swore after hearing it I would never join a beagle club. Takes all kinds I guess. Also if I dont have a dog that can compete I wont go to a nite hunt. Yes I have met some sour apples but also met some great guys. It is amazing the people out there that think their dog can walk on water then get bent out of shape when they lose.

There is a big difference between winning, losing and getting cheated. I can win and have fun, I can lose and still have fun and a good time. Hey, you get beat you get beat, that's all there is to that. But I find it impossible to get cheated and laugh about it.
There are also different kinds of "getting cheated." I believe the really title hungry malicious cheaters are a whole lot fewer than the opportunist type cheaters. The worst kind, the really bad malicious cheater will try to cheat anyone, and he is usually so good at it that you either don't even know you got cheated or you cant do anything about it anyway.
A good example of that was back in the mid 80's early 90's there was a kennel with some big name high powered studs. The owner used feeders, always guided and judged his cast, only ever hunted at the couple local clubs and had holes cut in the fence about 100 yards away from the feeder....his dog was struck and treed before yours got around the fence if he got around it at all. Nearly every adult dog in his kennel at the time was titled.
The opportunist acts like he knows everything and is usually smart. He counts on drawing out with some guys that don't really know the rules, at least not as well as he does. He isn't really the only one guilty here because you let him do it. Things like calling time out when he says so...minus points for dogs not "treeing under the umbrella"...not "treeing up on the tree," etc., etc. If you get cheated for your lack of either not knowing the rules or not speaking up then you have ownership.
Put your big boy pants on and quit crying
I don't quite understand how someone gets cheated or screwed
The rules are there on the back of the card and the strike n tree points are the same for everyone
If your getting "cheated/screwed" all the time take a step back and figure out the common denominator I bet its you!
The last hunt I went to was in March, at the beginning of the cast one of the handlers informed us his dog would meet you off tree. Sure enough first tree of the evening this dog comes back 30-35 yards opens 4 or 5 times then returns to the tree. Judge minused him and handler goes ballistic. In his mind we screwed him, he quit and I carried him back to his truck. He needed to be pissed at his dog not at the other cast members. I think lots of times people will take a dog that very well may be a coon treeing fool to a hunt but they have a fault like this that prevents them from being a winner and then they get upset when there dog gets minused.

Yep Joe and the converstion all the way back to his truck was how I was here to have fun and I got screwed, you guys are just out to win. Etc. etc. I mean really, I do go to a hunt with the intentions of winning, if that isn't what I signed up for I would go pleasure hunting.

I have to ask...did the dog you minused for coming back have 1st strike and tree???
Bet that fella was hunting a bluetick or a redbone
Come on now...put your big man pants on and tell the truth!!! He was from "outta state" wasn't he??? I aint met a Virginny boy yet that wasn't still red a$$ed about losin the civil war!!! You scratched that dog because he was better than yours and it's the only way you could beat him...get rid of the high power dog as fast as you can.

Treeing Walker, nope wasn't from outa state. actually did him a favor tree was slick and was scored as such. Yep I do like to win and will play to win, but I will also take my minus when my dog deserves it, and i dont wait for a judge to ask.

It was the first tree of the night so no one was winning the cast until after we scored this tree. He was winning the cast with 75 minus after we scored the tree. He quit anyway, probably because he knew his dogs fault.
