Pleasure hunter.
I'm just a pleasure hunter that enjoys my red dogs but I have a small issue. I have a young female that WILL not hunt with my other dogs. She is always leaving the pack and doing her own thing. She usually trees a coon but I can't stand it. Do you guys think a jump out race will help?
Thanks in advance.

All the competition guys are breeding for a dog like you got fully independent. I always thought hounds were pack dogs but the way every one talks thats not what you want out of them. 3veryone wants them to go their own way and tree by theirselves. Might be able to sell her for a good price to a comp guy.

I agree and my comp hunting is very limited. If I hunt with some friends and we turn 2 3 or even 4 hounds loose I fully expect mine to go their own way.
Ain't nothin' wrong with an independent dog in my book,if she has the meat you know she's not no me too dog,& if you just pleasure hunt, so what's the beef? Oh ya lay off the shocker.
What is she bred like ? I have a pup that is almost 28 months old that will go nuts on a tree with other dogs that I'm thinking will do well in competition hunts but I'm a greenhorn and I'm afraid if she wins and he other guys withdraw with time left she won't do anything by herself. Can she get scratched if she is the only dog left in the cast. She is most definitely grand nite champion breeding material. I want to put her in some casts but I'm not confident yet. Would htx hunts be better for her.

Oh I'm sorry I thought xth hunt were for like training and learning the rules and things like that , can you inform me more where I should maybe be hunting her. I really like her and think she can be a top dog in he hunts if I would put her in but my dad said we should follow along on a hunt first. My night champion dogs are not as good as her but when I hunt her with other grand nite champions she is always on the tree just a split second after them and looks good.

No you get another title on your dog though. Personally if I was gonna breed a bitch to a dog I'd rather see a HTX title before nite champion or grand nite.....jmo. but with all 3 titles that would be the sellin' point.
Twerk I dont think he was saying HTX for your dog. He quoted the guy who originally posted about a independent dog. Your dog would not pass if your dog is like you say wont hunt without other dogs because htx is to prove a dog can do it alone. If you turn you dog out all alone and it wont hunt no use in wasting your money at htx. Now if your dog will do it alone try a htx first and it will be a good start for you towards nite hunts. Good luck

Oh I'm sorry. So you would say I should put her in a real nite hunt cast instead. She is a firecracker with other dogs. She will be right with them barking fast as she can and she will step back about ten feet and race up the tree trunk as far as she can to try to get the coon when it's in the cage

What you enter in is up to you. I was just letting you know that in htx the dog hunts by its self and thought you posted earlier she wont hunt without other dogs.

quote:jmo if she jacking the tree like that you wouldn't want to put her in a hunt all your going to do is most likely get her chewed up she start running up the tree and falling on dogs theres going to be a dog fight for sure you need to ty her or hold her at the tree and not let her do that grazy stuff don't think you will completly stop it you might but i doubt you will ever get her stopped it's a really bad trait not trying to be a smart butt just telling you thats tree jacking is not a good thing or it's not in my book

Twerk find your local club and get with some of its members maybe you can tag along with some of them on a pleasure hunt with a score card and they will show you what its like in a nite hunt. Just a thought to get an idea of the main rules and guidlines.
